Sheets! There are three things to look for in sheets-the thread count, the type of cotton used to make them, and the weave. Higher thread counts are good, up to a point. Too high and the sheets get stiff and they make you hotter when you sleep, because there is little space between the threads for heat to escape. 400-800 is good. Egyptian cotton is very soft. So is most Turkish cotton and pima (sometimes called Supima) cotton. If the fibers are combed/carded before spinning, that makes the thread smoother. The weave-a sateen weave creates a smoother feel on the surface of the sheet. A plain weave, the basic over/under/over that you learn in kindergarten, has a slightly more bumpy feel. You really need to feel the fabric before you buy sheets, as various combinations of these three factors create very different feeling sheets. (I used to sell sheets for Macy’s in the US.)

Great video. After spending time in Denmark and Sweden in the past couple of years I have changed over my bedding to a very similar approach. The one thing I do different is to fold the duvet intothirds and store it at the foot of my bed until time to go to sleep. Then I simply reach down and grab the top edge and pull it up and it unfolds over me into a comfortable nest for sleeping.

I"m a pillow wrangler. Currently, my bed is many-layered. Slats. Mattress board. Mattress. Allergy barrier. Mattress pad. Feather bed. Feather bed protector. Down comforter, Duvet cover. Quilt or summer cover (at foot of bed). Two sleeping pillows. 2 square European pillows (Mongolian lamb). 2 lumbar cushions and 1 small throw pillow (all covered in African mud cloth). I know this looks complicated but it takes less than 2 minutes to make the bed. I shake out the feather bed and the duvet every day, plump the sleeping pillows and arrange the decorative pillows and I'm done. Sometimes I forego the decorative pillows and just have the two pillows that I sleep on. It depends on the vibe I'm going for but since all the bedding I'm currently using is white, the bed, IMHO, looks very inviting. In fact, all my linens are white except for 1 duvet cover that has slate-colored dots on it. What color there is comes from decorative pillow covers or quilts or summer covers

A few weeks ago I switched to a single duvet for my double bed. I was tired of fighting with all the extra fabric of the double duvet that had been my "standard". Not only is the single less expensive, easier to wash and quicker to make the bed. It gives me more than enough coverage for sleeping. And, yes, I also have many feline co-sleepers!!!! I switched to all white bedding because it not only looks "peaceful" but it launders well, especially when I need to use bleach. The cats like to camp out on the bed at all times. For critters who spend most of their lives washing themselves, cats leave behind all sorts of "bits". I have an IKEA bed, so I guess mine is now Swedish through adoption! Love your videos & look forward to them.

This looks so lovely. We have a bed base, which is like a box spring but around 6 inches deep, and is a more ‘traditional’ method in the UK than slats, then a sprung mattress on top. Everything is natural fibres, from our wool pillow top mattress to the blanket we use as a mattress protector, and even our duvet is wool. It’s simple and easy. White sheets too as they’re so easy to keep looking good. We also have the same set up year round, as the natural fibres help with temperature regulation. We own two sets of bedding and wash weekly (and have had the same sets for 5 years, repaired as needed). Our bed frame is a bit more ‘fancy’ than yours - it’s a hand made wrought iron traditional frame, built locally. Painted a creamy white and with proper brass bedknobs. It was our housewarming gift to ourselves when we bought our home, and it should last several generations!

My luxury bed setup (a good investment for my chronic bad pain), from bottom to top: remote-control adjustable bed, natural latex mattress, wool topper, cotton covered- and-filled mattress pad, linen sheets, linen duvet cover with no filling (warm climate, hot sleeper), cotton blanket in winter. So, most of the time, three layers of linen as only cover. I use two 700-fill down pillows with first a microfiber protector, then a cotton protector over that, then silk pillowcase on one pillow for night, linen on one for day, if on bedrest (less slippery). I was reluctant to try the wool topper because I thought it would be hot, but it isn’t, it just helps regulate the mattress temperature year-round, reducing hot or cold spots. And it’s machine-washable. I always leave a loose, warm blanket or throw for my cat to go under during the day when the heat is off (about 9-19 months/year here), she loves that, or even goes under all the bedcovers.

Mattress protector, grey cotton fitted sheet, lightweight duvet with a tan striped cotton cover, down pillows with protectors and white pillowcases, and two throw blankets at the foot of the bed (grey one for me, brown one for my partner, though our feline family uses them more than we do!). Oh, and since there's two humans and four felines sleeping in our bed, everything is king-sized!

At day time there's a quilted blanket on all beds though because of the fluffs hairs. Almost the same bed, mine is smaller. I love to dry the sheets and cover outside when washed, the smell of freshness makes me happy when I step in my bed in the evening. Lovely to read all differences in bedding.

Love this simplicity of your bed. We a box spring bed and it is fine. We keep 2 sets of linen for our bed, 2 sets for guests and that is more enough. Love duvets, versus top sheets - which I do not care for too much. I like to get up and out of bed in the mornings, however I prefer going to bed and being one with my mattress, sliding into my dream world. 🙃

In Australia slat beds are quite popular but you can still get a mattress and base set up. The difference is, the base looks like a mattress on legs but you can't sleep on it as it has almost no padding and the mattress is about the same size as the base. You can also add a mattress topper if you want.

In Finland, the duvet covers have holes at the top too, so you don't have turn the cover inside out in order to get the duvet in. You just put hands through the holes, grab the duvet and voila! That's why I never buy duvet covers from Ikea or H&M Home. They don't have holes! 😄 Otherwise we make the bed the same way than in Sweden.

This is perfect time! Just last week my husband and I were having blanket wars, and I was sure that Scandinavian bedding would help. I've seen homes where each side of a larger bed has it's only duvet. It might be the answer. I'm also giggling at the image of you hiding under your throw to do your voice-overs. Very funny! I hope that you are well. Stay safe! Stay sane!

@@shirleyjay6992 try that with English men. They do not get the concept how important sleep is to a person and want to cling to you and take over one's side of the bed and duvet offering no personal space. I lay almost across the bed and lean against pillows. The menopause made it almost impossible to remain in one position all night and restless. When one person moves the other's sleep is interrupted and vice versa. No wonder the population is exhausted! Separate beds and one to share.

Hello from the UK Benita, your bed routine is so similar to my own. We use pillow protectors and a mattress protector too (from Ikea actually) and I also use the bicarb on my mattress too. I use a flour shaker (it looks like a stainless steel mug with a lid that's full of holes) it's perfect for even sprinkling all over the mattress. I always add around 15-20 drops of lavender essential oil to around half a cup of bicarb too, it leaves a beautiful, restful scent. I also use this same mix to sprinkle across the carpet too (we're always careful to make sure our furbaby Jade isn't in the room until everything is vacuumed tho, so that she doesn't breathe it in.) Thank you for a fabulous video as always, have a wonderful week, hugs x

Hi Benita, we have a duvet, but we also use a flat sheet under that, so I don't have to wash the duvet cover so often (such a hassle getting it on again!). In winter we add a light blanket on top. We recently got linen sheets and they are great. We also use pillow protectors; that's all down to Ikea, I'd never seen them before I saw them in store there years ago!

Great video! Thank you 😍I'm glad to say it's very similar to the way I make my bed. Although I do have different bedding in summer and winter. In Madrid winters are freezing and summers are boiling. So from May to September I use a top and bottom sheet with a trow (usually in July August you don't really need the top sheet or the throw because it's too hot!) and in winter a duvet with its cover. But all similar nevertheless. One thing I was going to mention, I found out a while ago after hearing it somewhere and I spoke to Dyson to confirm. It seems you mustn't use it to hoover up bicarbonate. It's something to do with humidity and it damaging the motor. If it was new and it got damaged for that reason the warranty wouldn't cover it. Most hoovers that don't use hoover bags seem to have the same issue. Thank you again. Take care 😍
