Scammer Goes "Undercover" To Expose Refund Scam

Комедия

When I merged two scam calls together, one of the scammers decided to "help" warn me about the scam I was about to fall for. He then stays on the call with me quietly waiting to help catch the other scammer in his lies. Watch the next call live: goo.gl/uhpWGT

Whenever you get two scammers on the line they're always like "he is going to have you log into your bank and take your money! You never have to log into your bank!" I think it would be really interesting if then you hang up on the first person, and then see how the second person continues with the scam without logging into your bank

He’s not trying to get them off the phone quickly; he’s doing the exact opposite because the longer he keeps them on the phone the longer they won’t be bothering other people and stealing their money. A few days ago I got called by the "social security department." Again, but this time with a real person. The last time was an automated message. About my SSN being suspended. I know that the government dosen't suspend SSN's so I played along before pretending to be employed by the government. The conversation went something like this. Scammer: "Hello, this is the social security department. We are calling you to inform you that your social security number was suspended due to suspicions activity." Me: "Oh? My SSN was suspended. Shit, did someone steal my identity?" Scammer: "We think so yeah. I am calling to inform you of this and give you the chance to have your SSN Reactivated." Me: "Oh, so what do I need to do?" Scammer: "Well first I will need your SSN to confirm that the SSN that was suspended is yours and confirm your identity." Me: "I need to give you my SSN?" Scammer: "yes. This is to confirm your identity." Me: "hang on let me get my card. I don't have it memorized." Scammer: "take your time." Me: "Ok, you got a note pad?" Scammer: "yes." Me: "Before I continue. I just wanted to let you know that I am an employee for the Federal Trade Commission. Your phone number will-" Scammer: "gasp" *hangs up.* It was great. I filled out a report to the FTC and gave them the number.

If they're not calling from America, or any "1st world country", especially if they're calling from India and there abouts, nothing will ever happen about reporting them unfortunately. At one point a while back, the government in India actually admitted that they know about this stuff but don't have the resources to do anything about it. Some of the scam companies have better technology than they do, most of their government employees aren't trained in cyber security ect. The companies also often times use dummy companies in the UK and Canada to launder the money which makes it increasingly difficult. It's a shame but when you have 10,000 other more important issues to deal with (drought, famine, terrorism ect) it's no surprise it'll continue to happen.
