    Yes and I think her end message was so sweet! I started sewing In my childhood bedroom which was super tiny. I had a desk in the closet but my Dad got me a really nice sewing machine from an estate sale and from then on I was putting on my own altered goodwill fashion show. Now I have a big room I share with my husband to create in 😊. I actually made the formal wear I went to a wedding in last week. No matter where we start it’s good to start!

    Thank you for inspiring me to start sewing. My dad fixed my grandma's machine a couple days ago and I've been playing around with it for a couple of hours after a stressful day at work. I'm in love. For literally years, I thought cosplay was so cool but unreachable. Your videos and detailed graphics make me feel like one day, I'll actually be able to make something (whether its good or not is a different story XD). I've not seen much of your work outside of youtube (because I don't really use anything else), but the fact that you made your Miku in such a small space is amazing!! I'm excited for your future uploads and I can't wait to learn more about sewing!!

    Honestly, this video was so inspiring to watch, coming from someone who was always overwhelmed by the amount of professionalism of sewers had if that makes sense?? But seeing the gadgets and gizmos aplenty kinda made sewing seem impossible and expensive. Watching your videos and seeing how you make these incredible creations in a similar setup to what I had was the jumpstart of me learning to sew. And it makes me so happy that someone as talented as you are getting a dedicated space to create even more amazing things!!

    The thing the serger is sitting on, the Ikea equivalent is the Alek series. I bought one last year... it's actually the first furniture I bought, and I love it. I covered it in a wood looking vinyl sticker to make it not white and match with the rest of my room. Funny you mention every youtuber having a massive sewing room. I've gotten way more sewing and crafting done in the tiny corner of my childhood bedroom than in the whole office/craft room I have now, so I completely understand! Sometimes having a smaller space make it easier to focus and get work done. But having the storage of a larger area definitely is great, so please enjoy!! I also share a space with my husband. We live in a small cottage currently and he has one side and I have the other. We "parallel play" a lot and it's how we spend a lot of time together. He is usually 3D-printing or working on homework or playing a game and I'm usually sewing or drawing--it's nice.

I also edit embroidery stuff in here on an old, beat up laptop, so I can relate. Camera stuff, too. Thanks for sharing this because it has me rethinking my sewing/craft space, too. For anyone else in shelf hell with busted clips, they can be purchased separately, Home Depot carries some that should work for most applications. Not everyone gets new stuff, I'm in the same boat, but sometimes buying a new thing to fix an old thing makes the old thing so much less annoying!! Or go for a walk on the last garbage day of the month (especially ends and beginnings of school sessions) where people are moving out and leaving furniture at the curb, sometimes those clips and sometimes even extra shelves can be scavenged pretty easily if you're not concerned with what the neighbours might say. My current cutting table is one of those cardboard cutting mats from the sewing store on top of a scavenged glass tabletop sitting on top of my rabbit's crate... My ironing board and iron are up a flight of stairs from where I do my sewing. All my machines were handmedowns or gifts except for the fanciest one which needs a trip to the specialist... but where I sit and hand sew I've got everything within reach that I reasonably need, and if I need to go across the room to use one of my machines, all I need to grab is a pincushion cause I wound up with duplicate thread snips so one lives by the machines, though I probably should make more pincushions so there's always one or two at the machine, I keep forgetting to put an empty one there after I grab the full one to use for projects. I think organizing a craft space is mostly doing the best you can with what you have then modifying it to suit as best you can until it stops making you hate it... I bin things too, partially for organization, partially to keep them away from somebunny and his teeth, though some fabric bins are missing corners now... . Mending bin, darning bin, UFO bin and bins to keep the crocheting stuff separte from the sewing stuff separate from the embroidery stuff, and my rule is something has to come out of the mending bin, the darning bin AND the UFO bin before scissors can be used on a new project. And I have one of those plastic chest of drawers on wheels things to contain my one extra pair of scissors (I'm left-handed so I don't have many scissors) and measuring tapes and chalk and all the stuff somebunny keeps trying to eat or steal.

  • @Stormandfire
    @Stormandfire Жыл бұрын

    Honestly that tip about how the winding direction of thread on spools affects how smoothly they come off the spool depending on the direction they're held on the machine was surpsingly illuminating. And I will be keeping that in mind when using my Janome (which can do both vertical and horizontal, but horizontal is default).

    I think there's something deeply human and archaic about sewing/cutting on the floor. I prefer to have access to a table to cut but there's some serious Good Vibes whenever I settle on the floor to cut and sew a project. I feel Right and at peace doing simple Human crafts with the space and materials available.

    Congrats on the dedicated craft room and the 100k+ subs! It's really... I don't know... reassuring?... to know that you were able to craft all of that amazing stuff in such a small space. We recently downsized and I have a room that has about that much space for crafting (the rest is storage and my office) and I was worried I wouldn't be able to do the big stuff without invading the kitchen table. But if you can make those enormous outfits on that desk, I can make them on mine! well... I don't know about that, but at least lack of space won't be the limiting factor :D

    I love your channel! You actually inspired me to sew a cosplay for a convention this summer! Ive sewn before but never clothing, more quilting and such so im pretty ok at a straight line LOL but your videos are so helpful and motivating for me to actually sit down and try sewing clothing (which is pretty scary 0-0 ) So thank youu

    thank you so much for mentioning the small space stuff!! i live with my partner in a very small one room apartment and we're both cosplayers and it really is possible to do great things in a tiny space!! It may need more creativity on how to fit everything but it's definitely doable :0 people may think you need a lot of space, but really its only an empty spot on the floor or a table and you can do anything!! :D

    This was actually really helpful and inspirational because I am currently living in a single 11x13 room with my fiance, and all of our belongings are in this one single room. I don't have room for a dress form or anything fancy, I hardly have room to cut my fabirc on the floor. Sometimes I even have to travel to my parents house just to cut my fabric on larger pieces. This was really helpful in realizing that people do start small, and I should just not give up and anticipate the future and to keep going

    I really appreciate you sharing what is possible with a corner of a room, I started in an a tiny room that I also slept in and managed to make some pretty cool stuff before I had a dedicated room. Its super possible to make things in small spaces, it just takes some extra thought. I hope the move was smooth and I can't wait to see the new space!

    Thank you for sharing! I know the pain of small spaces and doing with what you have. I love to see your solutions and the hand me downs that I also use. But I use a singer feather weight.....NO Zig-Zag! So I have a crappy thrift find just for one stitch. I mostly quilt but am branching out to wigs and other projects. I just like to craft/make. I hope the new place is amazing and I can't wait to see more content.
