My horse is a rescue horse. I adopted him 7 months ago and I’m 68. I waited my entire life to have a horse of my own. He will be with me until the end. I’ve had to say goodbye to a lot of pets over my 68 years and they all were hard. Saying goodbye to this boy will probably do me in but I love him and he will be taken care of no matter what and he will be with me until the end. ❤️❤️❤️

I’m so sorry for your loss. I work at an animal shelter and it’s never easy. Thank you so much for taking such good care of Yoshi and giving him a wonderful rest of his life post auction. I’m sure he was very grateful. Thank you for also making this video for educational purposes. I don’t have a horse currently but I helped train feral mustangs with my grandfather when I was a kid and I desperately wish I could be at a point where I can do that again. Your channel has been a great source of information for both riding and horse care in general and you are so appreciated! Thank you for all that you do ❤

I am moved to tears for you. As a veterinarian I have helped and been with many through this process. It doesn’t get easy…it is still the hardest thing to have to go through. Yoshi was a very special horse and was so lucky and blessed to have found your farm to make his home. Rest assured that you made the right decision. Progressive neurological symptoms without a fever is never good. My heart aches for you.

Absolutely right! On 2 different occasions I waited too long, and I will NEVER forgive myself! Everybody should be taught about this in school! And the "better 1 week too soon than 1 minute too late" is an absolutely dead certain fact! The last time I did better, but maybe still too slow. The problem is getting the animal and vet together. On a Wed you need to decide if Friday it will be done, or you will have to wait until next Wed! I wish I could give the needles myself. The vets that will do in-office or at-home euthanasia are usually extremely kind, but they are human, and they need days off too. We all need to consider that when we are evaluating if today is the day. Because you can almost never choose the day that YOU want, or that you think your pet will need. Not unless you are willing to drop them off at an SPCA, without being able to be with them, and knowing they will sit in a cage in a strange, scary, lonely place, for as long as 2 days, before possibly being gassed in a mass killing, or at least being given a needle by a stranger with no love, who is in a hurry, with 50 other cats to do. A little bit too soon, but with love, and at home, is so, So, SO MUCH better than waiting until they are really suffering and every moment is pain for them. Every pet and animal owner needs to know about this! Thank you so much for saying it! ❤❤❤

Yoshi is not in pain anymore and he is probably looking down at you and telling you thank you and you tried everything you could. It's not your fault if he wasn't getting better. Thank you for having the courage to share Yoshi's story so that others will take on an animal that's needs mercy and grace. Once when I was having to make the decision to put down my Yorkie, I was crying and holding him as we drove to follow through with the decision. I know that animals live longer in our care than in the wild. We feed and water them, take them to the vet --- if they are diseased or older. Out in nature, they wouldn't be able to keep up with the pack, or the herd in Yoshi's case. I prayed, "Oh, Lord God, our Creator! Why does death have to hurt so bad as we are both grateful for their life, but know we will miss them?" He answered me, "By experiencing the death of a loved one, you can value the price that was paid with the life of My Son. He was born to die for you. He is coming again because you chose to have life, and that more abundantly, in Him as Saviour and Lord. I hope this helps comfort you as a Daughter of the Most High. Every life has a purpose, and you have a special call and anointing as you care for our Lord and Savior's "creatures." The Great Commission says so. Mark 16:15 Sending love and prayers your way ❤

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m 13 years old, and I had a pet bird. I got her when I was in first grade I think?! She was the sweetest thing, she only loved me; haha, she hated my dad. It’s just, I never knew an animal could be so pure and so sweet. I remember I’d rush off the school bus to go see her, and she’d start squawking when I got off because she learned the time I’d get off school! She was very smart. Unfortunately, I lost her almost a year ago. It was the hardest loss for me, because you know how as a child everyone kinda had that support thingy? Wether it be a blanket, stuffed animal.. for me it was her. I totally freaked out, I don’t think I cried as hard as I did in my entire life. Yes, she was just an animal, but she was my support since first grade; when she passed she took a part of my heart with her. What happened was her organs were to big for her body, and we took her to the vet to do an X-ray but she died durning Anastasia. I know how it feels. It doesn’t matter if your loved one is as big as an elephant, small as an ant.. you’ve built a connection with that animal, we’re supposed to take care of them. Now, nobody will ever know how you feel because of your connection with Yoshi, because it was yours! And no one will understand the connection I had with my sweet baby bird buttercup. It’s hard, but that’s something I like to treasure, to so many people she’s just another bird, there are millions of them, but she was MY bird to me. No one will never know how hard this loss is for you, but that’s kind of a beautiful thing. I don’t know what kind of connection you’ve had, but from this video and how sad you are I can see, clear as day their was a special bond. Thank you for taking care of another beautiful life, some are nice and long and others seem to short.. but you did it, you gave yoshi the best life and I like to think that about my bird buttercup. ❤❤❤ One more thing before I hit send, I also appreciate you making this video. I’ve been riding for about 3 years, I ride western and I have been learning how to barrel race. When I lost buttercup, I said “can we get a horse?….” Now, I winded up with the sweetest baby (bird) boy, he’s brought me more happiness than I’ll ever know. He even has his own little channel with about 100 subscribers, (whenyouhaveabird). Anyhow, I want to own a horse one day; we are looking into leasing now but I have high respect for anything about horse care. This is a sad topic, but I appreciate it so much because I know yoshi must be hard to talk about; I truly hear it in your voice. By this point, I still couldn’t talk about buttercup, but here you are with this video. It’s very heartwarming and educational, me and all the horse people appreciate your bravery in making this!❤❤ I have huge respect for this channel, It helps so many, (hopefully) future horse owners like me, and those who already own. Well whoever reads this, and makes it all the way through thank you.

I have always felt that one never becomes a true horseman or horsewoman until you have stayed with a horse to the end. It offers wisdom that no other experience can. Providing humane euthanasia is one one the greatest gifts we can offer a horse. It's actually rather rare that a horse dies peacefully in its sleep, so part of horsemanship is always watching and knowing your horse. I always ask, is the horse's quality of life good? Are there things he or she still enjoys? And yes, if you listen, they will tell you when they are done. Thank you for doing the right thing for Yoshi and sharing what you have learned with others.

I'm so sorry. We had to put our sweet palomino boy down this past August. Never went through that either. I still have dreams about him and wonder if I did the right thing, even though I knew I did. Thanks for this video. I felt a lot of people didn't understand my grief.

It's definitely hard, but find comfort in having given Yoshi the best, healthiest life possible while under your care!!! You're a loving, caring soul, & Yoshi was grateful for the time with you!!!! ❤🕊️🐎🕊️❤

A vet I worked for always said euthanizing a horse is the last gift you can give them. It’s always a tough decision, but your heart was in the right place. I’m so sorry for your loss, but thank you for sharing and being open.

Had to put down my favorite old man cocker spaniel that ever lived last year and I know how you are feeling. It was a very tough but loving decision and Yoshi was lucky enough to have someone like you loving on him and making that decision.

This is so heartbreaking. Yoshi was so loved by you and he knew this. One of my friends horses has similar last days to Yoshi. Lenny was walking in circles in his stable and was so confused with everything. The vet was convinced that it was very bad laminitis and all his insides were also basically packed in . So sad as he was as young as Yoshi. I love this video and I cried with you. You r a superstar. Sending big hugs from Scotland ❤

I’m so so sorry this happened Carmela. He’s in a better place though, he loves you. I’ve lost five horses and a dog as well as a great aunt. It was hard, losing a family member or furry family member is the most painful thing you’ll ever feel. It is so hard to deal with the grief. Especially if the animal was close to you. May he rest in peace, I’m sorry ❤

I have experienced exactly what you are going through with my horses animals are a gift and are a lifetime commitment and should never become an item to throw away. I loved them with all my heart.and held them when they needed euthanasia couldn't imagine doing it any other way -- goat potbelly pigs, llamas, horses, dogs and cats, they all became angles on my shoulders and see me through my todays. I am so sorry for your loss THANK YOU for having the courage to make this video truly beautiful.

Me too. My 1st cat died in about 1990, 34 years ago, and it still hurts like crazy! So do the next ones, in 1999, and 2022. Every time is so hard that I can't do it anymore. I would give anything to have each one back again. My heart goes out to you. ❤❤❤

I’m so sorry. I know how hard losing Yoshi was. I had a similar situation with my first horse. Almost identical. So I know that you did everything that you could and went above and beyond what most people would be willing to do. Just know that letting him go was the last selfless gift that you could give him. But I think you know that too. 💕
