Saving a Lifeless Chick

Raggedy Ann is doing great thankfully! It doesn’t always turn out that way. I’ll be keeping an eye on her and her food intake for awhile!

Good to hear she’s ok. I found a lifeless chick in the food dish of my mama hen. I picked her up thinking I’d need to bury her and she gasped. Quickly brought her inside on a heating pad and held her and gently petted her with my finger telling her to hang in, said a prayer and eventually she started peeping. Did electrolytes water too, but just dipped her beak in and kept her warm until she perked up and would peck at chick starter. Kept her overnight in the house under the heat pad and put her back with mama hen in the morning. A week later and she’s doing well but 1/2 the size of her siblings. Still hoping she’ll be ok. Thank you for sharing your experience because it helps to know what to do and not to give up on them too soon! ❤🙏👍

I love that you took so much time and care to bring her back! Not everyone would have had the care and commitment you exhibited. Thanks for telling us the story. She’s so cute. 🐥 ❤

I incubated and hatched 15 sweet little Chickies, got them set up in my garage under a heat lamp where they were nice and safe. Everything was going great for the first week! until I was outside checking on my coop where my 2 hens were sitting on their clutch, side by side….mind you, I live deep in the country with no neighbors… this stray cat snuck in my garage and hid in a plastic tote all night and then had half my chicks for breakfast.. Forward one week…my two hens in the coop were supposed to have their eggs hatch and they didn’t… I left them alone for a couple more days and one chick hatched, mother hen had kicked him out for having a bad leg, and I found him with a feather stuck in his mouth. barely alive. Brought him in did what you did, he seemed happy all morning. Went to check on him 10 minutes later and he passed…. As I keep eye on my hens in the coop, I hear peeps and get very excited. I leave them alone. Cutting the story short, (I won’t go any further on the rest of the story) ……….. I’ve concluded that letting my two hens sit on their nest side-by-side was a terrible idea…. My chicken Breed is Mille fluer and they’re so tiny and beautiful when they’re fully grown! I will continue to try to regrow my flock as I’ve had many of “lessons learned”
