Saving A Burl Board From The Fire Pit Wood Turning

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I use a trimming from a large burl I turned last year.
I had a few choices on how to turn it and decided to use the Bowl From A Board method.
This worked out great and it has some wonderful burling it.
Finished with Zinsser Seal Coat and Zinsser Shelac
Acks Sanding Paste and Acks Polish Restoring Paste
Here is the video of the main piece of the burl:

    Gary, this is one beautiful bowl. What a great use for a gorgeous piece of burl. When I use my press, I found that by putting a wheel bearing (any autopart store) on top of the work, it is unmoved by the twisting action of the press as I tighten it. How I wish I had a piece of scrap like that!

  • @ThePapa1947

    @ThePapa1947

    Thank you Josh! The end of my press not only adjust to the fit but it also is free spinning so I do not need a bearing on it. So I have not twisting issues to contend with. But I could see how a bearing could be helpful if needed., I never toss anything away so these scraps will get used at some point. Thanks for watching, Gary

    Thank you Leo. A serving platter was one option I thought of. I have another unknown piece of wood about this size that just may become a serving platter. Been wondering what kind of wood it is for years. I found it at a garage sale years ago and have done nothing with it yet. Thanks for watching, Gary

    Thanks so much Phil! This piece of burl made this happen for sure. Just wait till you see what I am working on today. It does not have a lot of chance of being beautiful but should be functional, I may not even show the video except to the person I am doing it for. If you ever need to see the true meaning of CHEAP you will have to see this. That is if it does not blow up LOL. But I just have to do it. Thanks again buddy! Gary

    Fantastic project Gary. Simple, and elegant. The best kind. I really appreciate the lesson about drawing a line on your board before you cut it. That seems to really help the process, and improve the result. And once again, you have proved to all of us to SAVE EVERY PIECE! Of wood from projects, because they can come back to be beautiful. Thanks for the video, and thanks for the lesson. See you next week.
