If anyone thinks Kristi Noem leads a "rural farm life" as most folks picture it (dirty, strenuous, physical, long days etc), they're delusional. She most likely lived(s) on a rural property that someone else actually farms although they might let her sit in the tractor for a photo op, and goes pheasant hunting for fun. She doesn't do actual work there. if she can't figure out how to deal with a 14 mo old dog without shooting it, how on earth can she be a political leader?

We just adopted an 18 month old puppy from an animal shelter. She is energetic and at times a little mischievous, just like most puppies. We found her a good trainer, and her behavior has definitely improved. The fact that Noem chose to kill rather than put the time and effort into training Cricket reveals that the Governor is a LAZY MONSTER and lacks in all leadership skills.

What that disgusting woman failed to realize is that at 14 months old, that dog was a juvenile. ALL puppies act up when they're at that age. AND when I see an undisciplined dog, I know it's not the dog's fault--it's the owner's. The cruelty is that they never gave that pup the proper training so, rather than having a professional train it (since they obviously couldn't,) she opted to just shoot it. What a horrible human she is, and I'm sure she isn't the only one in that family who lacks intelligence and compassion.

She's a monster. Killed a puppy in child blood because the woman doesn't know how to put her puppy on a leash until it learns what he's supposed to do. But shooting the goat, too? I just held my elderly chihuahua while he was having a seizure. I spoke quietly to him to let him know that I love him, and that I was there and it would be alright. I have done this on several occasions......I still love him....no matter what. He is part of our family. This woman's actions speaks loudly of what type of person she is. Did she expect it to differentiate between species? Plant and animal classification is a human construct. American law is a joke, there should be no statute of limitations for animal abuse after you're an adult. She should be arrested and charged for felony animal cruelty.

I hate Noem for this story. This INFURIATES me. She could have given the dog to someone who knew how to deal with dogs that have behavioral issues. Often it's the dog owner who has behavioral issues and needs to be trained. This story demonstrates that Noem is incapable of being a leader.

In South Dakota, any person who subjects an animal to cruelty is guilty of a Class 6 felony, sentenced to two years imprisonment in a state correctional facility or a fine of four thousand dollars, or both. "Cruelty” means to intentionally, willfully, and maliciously inflict gross physical abuse on an animal that causes prolonged pain, that causes serious physical injury, or that results in the death of the animal. Governor Kristi Noem admits she intentionally, willfully, and maliciously inflicted gross physical abuse on 2 animals that resulted in the deaths of both animals.

So the dog was being a dog. The goat was being a goat. Noem admits hating the dog. Noem admits illegally dumping dead animals. Noem admits to killing some horses and how many other animals! All aside from Noem being a horrible farmer and human. Seems like Noem's farm should be investigated for animal cruelty and well as charged for illegal dumping.

I think the point of the story is that she wants her fellow Republicans to know that she's also capable of taking the people they hate to the gravel pit too.

She killed a 14 months old puppy, a goat and then bragged about it. This is what sociopaths do.

If a dog is game driven, as hunting breeds are, you need a skilled trainer to train them, and you don’t take them around chickens. My dad trained hunting dogs for decades, and he always said that a poorly behaved dog reflected on the owner’s lack of skill and knowledge. A dog under the age of 2 is a BABY! It’s a BABY dog! It’s also a living soul, and should be treated as such, with patience and compassion. If you can’t train her, REHOME HER!

Seems to me it's bad ownership not bad animals.

We had an abused hunting dog from the shelter, we took care of her until she died from cancer 10 years later, and I loved that dog despite all of her quirks and shortcomings as a pet, likely due to the brain damage/trauma she suffered. I was a young boy at the time and the realization that my dog was physically abused by her prior owner brought me to tears several times, as does this story. I don't understand how people can be so cruel to their own pets, just because they're hunting dogs. It feels very irresponsible and callous to put down a dog for those reasons alone.

Besides the outrageousness of this story, Noem actually thought that this was a story worth telling in her book, and she thought that Americans would love it. Clearly, this woman has terrible judgment.

That sounds like an embarrased narcissist who took her anger out on a helpless animal. Killing one wasn't enough so she grabbed a goat. She is insane. I grew up on a farm and there were several times that we had to put down an injured animal who was dying but it was done with compassion not revenge and anger. Her behavior is not normal farm behavior.

This is sickening. There is no such thing as a bad dog. Gun dogs drop out of training all the time because, like people, they are not all suited to hunting. They aren't murdered. They just don't go on hunts. This wasn't "nessesary". It was a criminal act. Committed because she hadn't a clue how to train he dog...and she is a sociopath. Absolutely horrifying. Those poor sweet animals. She is despicable.

Yes, dogs attack birds, they are prey and it's instinct. My 8yo terrier still tries to catch them and squirrels. I do not let him get loose because I'm a responsible dog owner, my neighbors chickens are safe, even when they get loose and come onto my property.

I live on a farm and have an excellent farm dog with high prey drive. He had to be trained from a young age to leave chickens alone, but he learned and never killed one. But if he wasn’t trained he would have done the same thing as poor Cricket, I’m sure of it. You need to train your dogs around birds - she is a strange, ignorant person.

Everybody in here acting like they have no clue what happens when a dog seriously bites a kid or kills other animals. You are ordered by the county to have that animal put down. Period. The irony is this panelwould be the first people demanding that dog gets put down if it attacked their child.

I grew up on a ranch we had dogs, goats, cats, horses, cattle, even a racoon. We never killed any of the animals for misbehaving. I did have a dog that was too excitable to work and caused havoc around stock. I gave him away to a guy for a pet..

I live on a ranch .we don.t murder our dogs and other livestock.as the animals get real sick and old.sometimes we have to take our pets and livestock to the vet or have the vet come come to the home.to have them put to sleep.by the vet.that is very hard.we have a mule who is 30 years old more and we haveamini horse who is 32 years old we have had them since the mule was 2 years old the mini horse since he was 9 months old.we have 4 goats.one goat gets on my nerves still love him. He.s mean to the other goats and rams the stall door.i still have him.animals have souls.they all do.❤
