I had this album "Rats" when it dropped back in the 90s. "Pissin' down" is even more of a showcase for her voice.

Make you a believer is another great one by her.

I met her face to face in the 90's after a concert in New Brunswick, Canada. Me and a friend of mine nipped out to the back of the arena after the show for a joint, and out walks Sass. She shared one with us, we had a really good chat and she autographed our tickets, she was very down to earth. Very underrated talent and a good person.

Great story! I have met quite a few artists and have to say that many were pretty down to earth. Seal (in his early days), Gloria Estefan, Montell Jordan, even The Notorious BIG was very humble.

I had never heard of her. Got last minute tickets to Steve Perry and Sass was the opening act. I was SO blown away. Been a huge fan ever since

I’ve seen her live a few times, as recently as about 4 or 5 yrs ago. Still has all of that voice and is a great performer. Tons of energy. She really should have been bigger.

Although it wasn't Sass on the record, she was in the video for The Box - Closer Together which is a fun song that I can't believe I haven't seen a reaction for.

Great question. Only thing I can think of because she was Canadian she didn't get enough US airplay.

Yup - also Cdn managers were not that good back in the day. Didn't have the contacts US ones did.

There's a great vid of Sass rocking out with the Foo Fighters doing Stay With Me. She spent 6 months in a studio with Van Halen. They were considering asking her to be the lead singer. That would have been wild. In 2001 she played Janis Joplin in an off-Broadway show. She did a duet with Joe Cocker on The Bodyguard soundtrack.

Born in Birmingham, England. Moved to Montreal, Canada at the age of three.

This is where Taylor Hocking got his start. IT was great to see her and the band live in the 90's.

Her voice is well suited to rock, for sure. Kinda reminds me of Melissa Ehtherege (sp?)…. Energy, and then some! It’s hard to get airplay in the states, and I imagine it’s even more difficult as a woman. It’s still very much a business run by men, imo.

Harri- Please react to “Night” by Jackie Wilson. I know that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Luba always seems to get forgotten when talking about great Canadian female vocalists. Shame as she was great imo.
