Paty Romero the sign on the last minute shows it costs either ¥2k or ¥2.5k (I think it's the latter). So that amounts to around $20 to $24. Not exactly street food price, depending on where you're living I suppose.

I first tried sashimi yesterday and was blown away by how good it was. It was yellowfin tuna on a bed of carrots and cucumber with nothing but a lime juice dressing, but the simplicity of the dish made every flavor jump out.

uhm yeah. Sushi is from Japan. Do you realize it's "high end" anywhere else even in the west? It's a delicacy and believe me not many people will eat raw food. Thus it a niche which demands such a high price. Just because it's expensive does not mean its "good".

  • @aclock2

If no one eating it then the price should go down not up. Moreover, unless we are living in a world full of morons, something expensive should be good whether its the nutrition value, the taste or the rarity.

Its not about how good the food tastes...prices are all about marketing. If they want to present something as a "delicacy" they ll put the price high, no matter how it tastes. Look for example all these gourmet dishes they serve in fancy restaurants, with the weirdest combinations of foods. You pay a ton of money to eat things like that, but that doesn't mean they are nessesarily more tasty than a simpe juicy steak,or a burger. Botom line is, expensive doesn't mean "the best"...It just means they priced it that way, for their own profit reasons.
