You are partially right. I found that the military built upon those types of qualities that I already had. Unfortunately, what elite soldiers rarely talk about is that WE cant turn it off when we leave the army. Many of us dont make it! Suicide! Dont glamorize our deeds and actions! we were just doing the job we were built for, Just remember us and say thanks when you see us on the street.

SAS/SBS Exceptionally well trained. Great video. Myself US Navy Special Weapons, Lebanon, Grenada & NATO Europe 81-87. Served with British forces and Royal Netherlands Marines in NATO units in England also. 🇬🇧. Great men for sure, always miss England 👍💪

Tried for the TA but failed the first weekend due lack of fitness poor hygiene, and what was described as the most complete lack of aptitude of any man ever to have crossed a barrack room threshold - and it was only the cooks course. Thought about selection but decided it was easier to sit around all day watching SAS documentaries, marinating in my own filth and posing in the mirror with a gun shaped coat hanger acting hard.

I can remember when I was an army cadet in the 90's, seeing a helicopter land in Raglan barracks Newport and four guy's run out in full kit n jump onboard....we got a tour around there hanger once, they let us try the parachute harness n they kick the steps out, it was awesome, we nicked some camo net and thought we were hard as nails when we put it on our webbing...this was a blast from the past awesome video 👍 they may be the SAS but they are nothing compared to the 1994/95 Gwent Cambrian team 😂🤣

The man you are referring to is Peter McAleese. He has certainly been there....Parachute Regiment, 22SAS, Rhodesian SAS, South African Police Special Branch, SADF Parachute Brigade, and other agencies in between. I think these are about 25 years old. I remember watching them on TV. I urge you to read the book as it's much more informative and in depth. There's a chapter in the book that chronicles the story of SAS soldiers helping with the Kegworth air disaster in 1989

Yeah, thats what I said up above. I was a US Army Ranger. There wouldn't be enough men to staff the regiment with after selection if we counted out a sick man for that. Thats being ridiculous even for the SAS.

@@cron1165 It is TRUE! They are looking for any reason to kick you out! In a top tier unit, like the SAS they only want the very best and, unfortunately very few people will make the grade. He said it in the video why. I bite like that that develops into that serious of an infection will kill that candidate. I know because as a medic you dont call a chopper unless its serious and if its not, there will be hell to pay for getting it wrong. For myself, having experienced similar courses and exercises in the Canadian Army I reached a point when I broke from the extreme stress I had to reach deep inside myself and find what I needed to continue on. Unfortunately, very few people are able to do that. My question would be: If you were in an elite unit would you want the soldier in front of you and behind you to be the type of person who broke or the one who overcome that type of extreme stress? I know my answer cause I had the PRIVELEDGE & HONOR of serving with them!

@@cron1165 I guess it is hard for most people to understand this! Think of it like this: how many guys get into and last in a professional sport organization like the NHL or get to play with a top team.(my friend has 3 Stanley Cup rings) In units SAS, SEALS, JTF2, etc, they want the Best the 1st time no 2nd chances there is too much at stake to even risk it (death) The stress on us was immense! I always had to figurately score,100% on every course or qualification I did or I was out(I took alot of courses)! There are lots of people trying to get in. As a medic there was even less spots available and I had to constantly prove myself! I actually broke military laws to join my top tier unit. They were actually impressed by my initiative and I was allowed to join. I could have been arrested for that! They told me they wanted THINKING SOLDIERS! No heroes allowed! Actually, from my experience in the Canadian army getting recoursed is pretty much the death note to your career, especially if you are trying to join a prestigious unit. I know a guy in my unit who was promoted to sergeant who had poor leadership skills. The army moved him to supply after the promotion and even when we went out on training exercises he was left behind at the barracks. My section was commanded by a Master Corporal , who went on to win the Order of Military Merit from the Governor General and the rank of Regimental Sargent Major.Thank you! I was just privileged to do the ONLY job I was ever born for! However it has been tough to live with! sorry for the long winded replies!

i heard if you go to hereford and ask people were the SAS base is you get a free nights stay at the police station !

Sad if a guy gets to jungle stage gets sick by disease or injury especially if it’s his second chance gets binned.A soldier who has put that much effort in should be extended a third final chance if he fails that you don’t want him around he is unlucky 😆

The SBS come up here, (near the Isle of Skye), all the time. You can tell when they’re about as the massive boats come up on the only main road into the area and you can hear the chinooks coming up the lochs and hills - they creep me out, that thump thump thump of the rotors is dead creepy at night. It’s so quiet here that you can hear it from miles away.

It’s normal for soldiers to not smoke while out on a patrol or in the field, so the light from the end on the cigarette or lighter don’t give their position away. It’s obviously usual for SAS Patrols to be posted far from an Operating Base or the sort, and usually have to sit in a shit filled hole for 2 weeks. That’s my guess

This is with ANY Infantry/line unit, especially in the US Army. Granted, we had times when we were allowed to smoke (daylight only though), but if you needed nicotine out on patrol, you learned how to dip Skoal/Copenhagen instead to maintain light discipline and the smell. You can see a lit cigarette from a looooooong ways off at night, and it’s not that hard to aim for a head shot when you see it get brighter when they’re taking a drag on it. Also…we had some older NCO’s, many with combat scrolls from the 75th, that forbade us from wearing deodorant or anything else to cover up our body odor, because that perfume smell can be smelled a good ways off too. After about 4-5 days into a 30-45 day field problem, you become immune to your own funk as well as everyone else’s. 😂 But as soon as we came back in to the rear and either went home (for us married guys) or to the barracks (single or divorced) and the air conditioning hit you, you became suddenly aware of how bad you smelled. Uniform gets ripped off and thrown straight into the washer and you jump straight into a much needed, hot shower for about 30 minutes, and usually while having your first cold beer in the shower. That first shower followed by putting on your jeans and t-shirt was the best feeling in the world after being out that long.
