I dunno how you fellas kept a straight face while being filmed. RIP John.

I learned most of these things in the regular military, but it is obvious that the training, discipline and equipment of this and similar units is on a whole other level! It's interesting how an ordinary soldier is not dedicated to this details and how just a little bit of discipline and knowledge can significantly reduce the risks of getting killed or wounded in combat!

The SAS are a elite fighting regiment no doubt about that and they are the standard of what all SF units are derived from true. I'm truly sick of the "Who is Better" debates. Funny thing is you keyboard assassins actually compare the two more then the actual operators. There's a mutual respect that we all share for one another. As a American and veteran the UK are our allies who share the same battlefield as we do. To be honest it's doesn't matter who's best because trust me as the enemy you wouldn't want to be in any SF operators crosshairs no matter what country he's from. It's amazing how a ton of kids and couch commandos who've never and probably never will serve a day in the arm forces debate about things they know nothing about. Shut up and be glad that on either side you have elite Warriors laying it on the line so you can have the freedom to sound dumb on the internet...Sincerely SSGT. (Retired) USMC

Ignore trolls trying to trigger. You're right, most who think they know something know nothing. I've had cousins serve in the SAS and my uncle Vernon joined them in North Africa. Served right through to Yugoslavia and then served in Korea. Comparing the SF of different countries is stupid because nations have different geography; different commitments and different levels of training and skill sets even within the same army/airforce/navy. A good example, for anyone who doesn't know, is the Danish navies Sirius Dog Sled Patrol. Seriously impressed with these guys and deserve a mention. The mental challenge and isolation with just you and your buddy for months on end apart from the physical challenges and self dependency. Respect to all elite and SF who go into harms way so the rest of us don't have to.

So what? These are very basic things.

So sad to hear of Macks passing a few years back. The word hero gets passed about all to easily and all to often with out merit. However Mack was a real genuine hero, as are all the boys from the SAS who do more than the average man will ever know off!

I recently read about the SAS in the Falklands War; they blew up every single Argentine aircraft at this airfield on a small island & wiped out, I don't know, 25% of the total Argentine air strength. Maybe not that much, but it was a serious loss for Argentina. It's exactly what their predecessors did in North Africa to, apparently, 100's of Axis aircraft.

Apparently the Argentina government caught wind that SAS were actually within the country and they more or less panicked and freaked out, then the SAS guys went to a neighbouring country and got a plane ride home

Raid on Pebble Island ... they ve attacked an small airfield .. planes for ground attack. Really important for the british landing at S.Carlos bay. So the only airfield operative was Port Stanley

The Airfield at Port Stanley was bombed by the Brits Vulcan bomber. Only one bomb actually hit the runway but it was enough damage to stop Argentine planes using it.. It was also the first and last time the Vulcan bomber was used in combat, although it was used throughout the cold war as a deterrent to the Russians (Long range nuclear bomber)

P.Argentino/Stanley was operative till the end of war. 13th June was the last C-130 Hercules flight to continent with wounded soldiers.

The MoD doesn't comment on anything that the SAS, if it's operations, training, deaths. They are always improving, and keeping on top as the best Special Forces regiment in the world.

Great video!! The SAS is extremely well trained and I suppose it takes a special kind of focus and attitude to do and endure the types of missions that they attempt. I will be watching the other episodes..........

Great video and I liked the fact that lots of emphasis was put on all the work before and after the sniper shot. Way too often snipers are potrayed as supermen just taking the shots from distance and going home when the reality is much more harsh.

I have seen all special forces training documentaries ., every training is unique and difficult in its own way.

As ex military, i appreciate all the details. SAS has learned from bitter combat experience, and taken good bits from what works in other Armies , ( including former enemies). 😉

You'll be absolutely astonished at what one can achieve whist utilising and directing the correct mental/psychological approach toward a task. You will literally 'close down' and render pain stimuli near obsolete. And yet, simultaneously, the Trooper must remain utterly tactical. With repetitive training (the Killing House for example) it also becomes muscle memory too...almost a reflex-arc! 40 is definitely the new 20 MovieMad007! Best wishes.

You make an excellent MovieMad007! As with most Western Special Forces, the physical aspects of the selection process WILL destroy them physically; it renders them near incapable of continuing 'forward'. Then, it all becomes wholly psychological. One's mind-set and utter determination will, for sure, even in the most extreme physical/psychological circumstance', permit the recruit carry on. Its all in the mind thereafter. Some members are basically brilliant at carrying loads, hence the Bergen.

Good luck man! Ive tried for the royal marines, but failed on my eyesight (weak right eye) :( never been more disappointed. Ive since taken up electrical engineering and am hoping to get in the armed forces that route. And i guess your right, its mainly mental strength thats needed to get in the special forces, the ability to push yourself when your body tells you to quit. and no rush :)

I love how matter-of-fact these guys are when describing equipment and weapons. The anti-tank mine at 34:35 - "Along comes the vehicle, tank, APC etc. Goes over the top, boom, goodbye the boys."

It doesn't matter WHO is better than WHO. At the end of the day, consider yourself lucky that none of these units are after you. ;)

Eddie Stone is Scottish, not English, as was the late John McAleese (Mac) Learn the difference for goodness' sake. I can tell the difference between various states in the US, and English-speaking Mexicans, and Canadians, and I'm over 3000 miles away. Trust me, we find this pretty annoying when people get this mixed-up. Thanks for the good words about our Special Forces though. US Special Forces are fine warriors too. :)

Back in the early 70’s I used to go to the pubs and dances in Hereford, all the bouncers were SAS, the local yobs hated them (losing every scrap had a lot to do with it).

1:25 You can see the German MG1 (machine gun 1). I have known it, when I was a tank loader in 1988. The MG1 was in use as MG 42 during world war 2.

The British Royal Marine Commando infants are most proffessional and elite navy in the world and undertake the hardest basic military training known to man. This training is 32 weeks long compared with the United States Marine Corps 13 weeks of training and is completed in the Marines Commando Training Centre Royal (CTCRM) to give an idea about the course training Resistance is a six mile (9.65 km) course across rough moorland and forest land in Woodbury Common near Lympstone, which includes tunnels, pipes, wading pools and a culvert under water. The course ends with a four miles (6 km) running CTCRM. Followed by a test of shooting, where the recruit must hit 6 out of 10 shots at a 25m target simulating 200 m. To be completed in 73 minutes (71 minutes for Royal Marine officers). Originally 72 minutes, these times were recently increased by one minute as the route of the course was altered this course has to be completed by recruits in full fighting order of 32 lb (14.5 kg) load carrying straps eg staff, equipment and L85A2. In this video the endurance course is being taken by me and my college mates looking to join the Royal Navy, along with two boys in Fiji, a boy and a boy Doncaster chard this is part of a course that is designed to show potential recruits what teaching is and what to expect when joining the body that did not have to carry any equipment as it is only done by recruits in stages of training. Steve Arthur +Simon Kveinå Thats correct. 13 weeks from civilian to rifleman. After that is specialisation for a few with specific attributes and according to manpower needs. The royal marines however are fully trained soldiers after 15 weeks BUT you cannot get the green beret until you pass the commando phase of the course Which takes up the remainder of the 32 weeks. after that its into a unit on general duties or specialisation training

Tungst left the rifle as well but if the enemy can't find the bolt then the weapon can't be used against them ( the sas )

The developers based the appearance of the "Captain Price" character from the COD series on John Mac (Moustache guy) in admiration for the professional manner in which his team of two SAS successfully defused a hostage situation which resulted in the sole death of the hostage taker. Navy SEALS DEVGRU (they're fewer than DELTA) are the ones called upon when AMERICA's name is at stake. Otherwise, they can call on DELTA (which is based on your SAS) or even pass it on to SAS. Cana duh! America does call the shots, yes, but the British Government intervines in operations it seems fit too. America will know nothing about when the SAS are being deployed and where too.

Great bunch of lads... my friends father who recently passed away was in the special air service... my father was in the RAF in world-war 2 then the mod after that, i miss him.

awesome videos! their training is emense. I can understand why they are up there with the best. A lot of their missions are known thow, where as the SAS/SBS is more secretive i think and they have made a few mistakes like the seals drowning and the helecopters crashing. Their gear and budget is something the SAS/SBS cant compete with either.

Best of the Best

SAS and SBS are the most highly trained and seasoned soldiers in the world and have served in virtually every theatre of war since WW2. US, German, Dutch and the Israeli special forces have been trained and advised by the SAS in the past. No other unit has shown the sheer guts, dedication, commitment and professionalism as these fellows. The Green Beret's and Navy Seals were originally and still are trained by the S.A S. S.A.S training is seen as the hardest most grueling training on earth.

thanks for responding! like i said i understand what rails are for. my question is about the way a rail was specifically mounted on a weapon in the video. the rail appeared to be obstructing the rear sight and was not supporting a optical sight. (resulting in having no way to aim effectively) i have noticed this strange setup on other videos featuring the sas.

Seal training consists of 4-12 weeks of Swimming long distances, Running long distances, General training. Followed by a 3 week indoctrination program for all of them, After which, they have 25 weeks of further training during which they learn to arm and plant underwater bombs, about 28 weeks later they train for parajumps, cold weather warfare, and finally are trained in Survival, and Escape & Evasion aswell as Resisting interrogation.

We may be small as an island but in ww2 the Battle of Britain almost half the German airforce got shot down they broke us yes but the British got back up and fought back England truly has the best army and the best history

The United State's army is more powerful than Britain's, it is the most powerful military force in the world. England has a decently powerful army, but not the best.

Fighting Force Look it up, the US has the most powerful army in the world overall. This includes our air force, special forces, among other things. It's not an opinion.

Jakob Vogel The US has the biggest budget and the best technology but for the most part they have shot discipline and many American soldiers are huge pussies. The quality of the British SAS or any British solider is way better individually than any American solider ad this is coming from someone serving in PPCLI

I dont think serving in the Canadian military gives you a realistic perspective on American soldiers. The truth is, you have no idea which countries train their soldiers better than others, and Americans certainly aren't pussies, just like most militaries arent. The only factual basis is that the US has the undisputed best military in the world.

Jackson Hayes That's probably how they captured a few SAS troops over the years. They'll brainwash their taliban to operate in the same way these lads do.

Jackson Hayes Another scary thing is, terrorists actually completing this training, then going AWOL or purposely harming themselves to be discharged, then going overseas to tell them of their training and findings after years of being in the U.K. Sure, it's a big task, but spies do exist.

Grew up next to the camp. Was awesome as a kid seeing the scouts try to take out our chimney with the guys hanging out waving, top guys, nutters every one :-)

its actually a well known fact that SAS train all special forces groups, considering they literally wrote the book on sf work

A complete myth, anyway how would you know? Apparently they are made up pretty much as is the U.K English most, Scottish next Welsh and NI. How many jocks in a real operation like Bravo 2 Zero? 0. 7 All English 1 Kiwi and 1 Aussie.

Very true. It is hard for someone who hasn't been put in the situation of a conflict to grasp what it is actually like. Hopefully I can convey that in my own book!
