A RTC Steam charter from Arbatax to Gairo 62 km or 39 miles 950mm gauge on 19-05-2002 with FCS Officine Meccaniche Reggiane 2-6-2T 402 (1931 Reggio Emilia) this engine has a distinctive exhaust sound. Also a few brief scenes at Monserrato Railway Museum.
The line from Arbatax to Mandas was completed in 1894 and closed to regular service trains on 16th June 1997. It then became part of the Trenino Verde network for tourist trains, however currently in 2024 trains only run from Arbatax to Lanusi 34 km or 21 miles.
From Arbatax the line climbs 733 metres or 2405 feet to Gairo. It must be one of the finest narrow gauge journeys in Europe.
