I am an expat Glaswegian and quite honestly this is how everybody there talks all the time. I mean the sarcasm and of course the accent. Still funny but made me homesick. As an aside, I naturally use sarcasm here in Canada and it does not always go down well. I would go crazy if not for my Brit friends who get were I am coming from. Literally.

I can relate to you! I'm from the north east of England, but living in the Philippines now. The humor is sooo different here.. When I'm sarcastic, people think I'm telling the truth then I end up looking like the daft one. Always outnumbered, but at least my husband gets sarcasm... Kind of... 😆

Alex Lynch That's hilarious, I love the name you gave it! I'm sure my family would force me to attend if such a thing existed. Can you imagine the meetings though? Everyone would be fighting for their chance to speak, no one would be listening to anyone else, they'd all be talking over each other, and the meetings would last for hours and hours!!

Oh, wait, I just realized the group was actually for the families and not the over-talkers, sorry, my mistake. That would be a very different type of meeting, probably not as interesting, but at least they could vent and finally get a word in. The over-talkers are the ones that really need the help, though, to learn to talk less, let others have their turn, and not keep people hostage with their incessant talking. Not that I know anything about that though...

@@sirdeadlock The point is that upon joining a new group, especially a support group for an intimate problem, most people want to be ignored until they are comfortable enough to speak up. I have never joined such a group but I have always wondered if it is like you see in the movies where the leader of the group immediately says "We have a new member, everyone say hello and let's try to make him talk!" I have severe anxiety so I've put off joining such groups because they make it look as though you would be shoved straight in the deep end with introductions and telling your story. If I was comfortable speaking in front of strangers I wouldn't have anxiety...

One of the best instances of sarcasm was in a comic strip (!!). One guy introduces a newcomer to the crowd by saying that this is So-and-So; he's a master of sarcasm. One of the crowd says, "Oh yeah? Say something sarcastic, then!" So-and-So replies, "Pleased to meet you."

When I was off the wagon I found some of the most reliable sources at Narc Anon meetings. Most people don't realize that 95% of AA-type attendees fail. Think how many sources they know. And what happened in NA stayed in NA, or was supposed to anyway. So I would make acquaintance with everyone knowing that we might be trading info down the road.

Blackadder was sarcasm at its best but Ben Elton always gave Atkinson plenty of idiots to eviscerate. Baldrick was an easy target but our man was happy to drop sarcastic asides about everyone from maids to royalty and particularly clergy. Much funnier than Mr Bean.

Well the way things is going with people becoming more and more stupid soon the AI will be smarter without needing to get any improvements... Lot of people is more like NPCs in a computer game and would not pass the Turing test.

I am an expat Glaswegian and quite honestly this is how everybody there talks all the time. I mean the sarcasm and of course the accent. Still funny but made me homesick. As an aside, I naturally use sarcasm here in Canada and it does not always go down well. I would go crazy if not for my Brit friends who get were I am coming from. Literally.

I can relate to you! I'm from the north east of England, but living in the Philippines now. The humor is sooo different here.. When I'm sarcastic, people think I'm telling the truth then I end up looking like the daft one. Always outnumbered, but at least my husband gets sarcasm... Kind of... 😆

But after two steps , they repeat them three times, to make sure you know what was taught. Then the fifth step sounds identical to the second step, but you all keep quiet in case they go over it again three times more.

Alex Lynch That's hilarious, I love the name you gave it! I'm sure my family would force me to attend if such a thing existed. Can you imagine the meetings though? Everyone would be fighting for their chance to speak, no one would be listening to anyone else, they'd all be talking over each other, and the meetings would last for hours and hours!!

Oh, wait, I just realized the group was actually for the families and not the over-talkers, sorry, my mistake. That would be a very different type of meeting, probably not as interesting, but at least they could vent and finally get a word in. The over-talkers are the ones that really need the help, though, to learn to talk less, let others have their turn, and not keep people hostage with their incessant talking. Not that I know anything about that though...

You can use a fake name or an alias. It's just so the group can tell each other apart. "That guy needed help." "which guy?" much faster to use a name.

@@sirdeadlock The point is that upon joining a new group, especially a support group for an intimate problem, most people want to be ignored until they are comfortable enough to speak up. I have never joined such a group but I have always wondered if it is like you see in the movies where the leader of the group immediately says "We have a new member, everyone say hello and let's try to make him talk!" I have severe anxiety so I've put off joining such groups because they make it look as though you would be shoved straight in the deep end with introductions and telling your story. If I was comfortable speaking in front of strangers I wouldn't have anxiety...

One of the best instances of sarcasm was in a comic strip (!!). One guy introduces a newcomer to the crowd by saying that this is So-and-So; he's a master of sarcasm. One of the crowd says, "Oh yeah? Say something sarcastic, then!" So-and-So replies, "Pleased to meet you."

I onced read a study that the over-use of sarcasm (which is basically everyone in America now) is directly linked to depression. I find it to be completely exhausting.

Very cleverly inspired... and played. And I mean that reeeealy honestly.
I really enjoyed this.
The laughter track added to accompany the sketch was absolutely necessary and not irritating in the least.

Just watch some of the 'Ray' sketches from 'The Mary Whitehouse Experience'. It's basically the same premise, only done 25 years ago, when it was an original concept, by comics who were at the top of their game.

It was, in the early '90s when Rob Newman came up with the character Ray, a man afflicted with a rare medical condition that gives him a permanently sarcastic tone of voice. There are some of his clips here on KZread.

When I was off the wagon I found some of the most reliable sources at Narc Anon meetings. Most people don't realize that 95% of AA-type attendees fail. Think how many sources they know. And what happened in NA stayed in NA, or was supposed to anyway. So I would make acquaintance with everyone knowing that we might be trading info down the road.
I really liked the ad that played before this video. Someone care to tell me if this is passive aggressive anonymous?
