Saragarhi - The Last Stand - Extra History

📜 History of Saragarhi: A humble signal station manned by only twenty-one Sikh officers of the British Empire finds itself beset by 10,000 attackers. There is no hope for relief, but even knowing it will come at the cost of their lives, the Sikhs refuse to stand down.

Extra Credits September 12th 1683, the Ottoman forces are on their 61st day of siege on Viana and the remaining Hungarian troops are weeks away and the Austrian guard are out numbered 60:1 and the Ottomans plant Mines beneath the walls of Viana. Then when all hope seems lost The Polish-Lithuanian king John III Sobieski rises over the hill on horseback wearing wings. The Winged Hussars charge down the mountainside obliterating the Ottoman Janissaries and halting their creep into Europe.

Then you should read more on sikh history. And you will get to know its common for Sikh warriors to be lions in battlefield but at same time filled with love for other humans. Sikhs would always fight the person equipped equal to them. And if enemy asks to be spared then sikhs would always spare them. Sikhs were always very brave and disciplined and spiritually apt. This was one of the reason British recruited more Sikh in British India than people of other parts of india

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no historical evidence of such a claim. Without a doubt, they sure were brave fighting till death, which is really easy to say but hard to fathom. Having said that, the 10,000 fighters claim seems to be a little bit exaggerated, a more moderate estimation put the number to be closer to 1,000 - 2,000.

Fast of all Sikh is worship of there guru(who teach the lesson of life and the a duty of a sikh). It's a religion who r famous in India for there hard work, passion, honesty and helpfulness. They r really strong then any other common indian and other people in Asia. Shik is a rase of a warrior. The symbol of shik is seen that they worship there gurus shod and chakra. Respect them and there religion because 1 shik can't afraid to fight against lots of people. Before I say they r warrior race so there is no doubt that 21 shik can't hesitate to fight or fall back when they know they all died in battle. There is only one religion competed with them that is GURKHA. They r also a famous warrior group that give thought challenge to shik. But both of them r in indian army. For that reason indian army is one of the strongest army in the world.......

There's a saying 'hard environment breeds hard people'. Before the Sikhs became Sikhs, Punjab was ravaged and humiliated by Turks, Persians and Afghans. After 700 years of such injustice rose the Sikhs. There's an ecstasy in fighting for sure death. The fear of death just evaporates. That's when men become more than what it's physically expected of them.

To people questioning why Sikhs would do this for the British empire its because Sikhs historically have been a very martial people, the religion is centered around defending the defenceless and being a soldier for humanity. The video also does not mention the fact that these forts were there to keep British India safe from invading afghans (they were boarder forts) this was not a charge into Afghanistan or an invasion into Afghanistan it was 21 men defending their countries boarder.

Ford Prefect the Sikhs aligned themselves with the English because the British empire had used other Indians against the Sikhs during the second Anglo Sikh war, this is the war that cost the Sikhs there empire. Once the dust had settled the Sikhs had become loyal soldiers for the English, and being loyal soldiers they swiftly put down the Indian rebellion. I understand some groups of other Indians aren't fond of the Sikhs because of this but the British did treat certain groups of Indians better than others which in turn created resentment. Regardless historically Sikhs have been excellent warriors and in my opinion the Sikhs diaspora around the world has flourished remarkably. Btw I am English so I may be a little biased in my views but I do understand the British empire had not treated other Indians well which I think is a shame given the intellectual merit of most Indians.

Sikhs were nothing short of Legendary, They are basically the Vikings of India. Before the British arrived in India, The Islamic Mughal Empire ruled most of India. While Sikhism was a relatively new Monotheistic Faith, They were left untouched. Hindus were persecuted by Mughals and one day a bunch of Hindus went asking Sikh Guru (Leader) to protect them from Mughal Persecution and Torture. The Sikhs were at that time allied with Mughals and had Trade Contacts with them and were prospering immensely. Any Reasonable Leader would have said - "Go away, its your problem, This is not our Fight". But the Sikh Guru didn't do that. He actually promised Hindus to shelter them and fight their Battles against the Mughals and thus started a century of Sikh - Mughal Battles. They got involved in a Century long Conflict that benefited them in no way only to protect the Righteousness and few Good people from Tyranny and Oppression. And because of this we Hindus are even today very grateful to Sikhs - The Bravest of the Brave Warriors in History. One just has to say he is a Sikh and he deserves undisputed respect, Such is the Legacy of Sikh Warriors in History !!!

Actually it started with 5th guru who was executed for not behaving in "Islamic" ways, later on 9th Guru was tortured and murdered for not converting to Islam as if he converted, every north Indian Hindu would have. Then eventual death of Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj, who had to wage life long war of righteousness in which his 4 sons, wife and mother are killed.

The Sikh community is famous for giving the armed forces of India, it's best and most elite soldiers, but the 21 Sikhs soldiers who laid down their life in such a noble and gallant manner will be remembered as legends for many more years to come. May the 21 live long! Jai Hind! Bole so nihaal, sat sri akaal!!

Jeffrey Knipe Sikh history is a history of last stands. Read Fenrich's book Martyrdom in the Sikh Tradition. The nation grew as a response to Islamic tyranny and oppression and their history has been nothing but martyrdom, and holocausts. Have to admire that they never converted to Islam, but rather died
