She’s been quoted as saying that the label wanted her to add a love song to what she she was recording for the album, and this is what she came up with as kind of a pointed response to the request.

Back in 1972, Mac Davis wrote the song “Baby don’t get hooked on me” in response to his record label telling him to write a song with a good “hook” line. So he did as they asked, Sara, apparently, went in the opposite direction! Not surprising coming from the person who subsequently wrote “Armor”. She’s a brilliant lyricist, vocalist, musician and performer.

The female voice is such a unique instrument and I really feel that SB has encapsulated the best of that with such clarity and pitch perfection in the same vein as Ella Fitzgerald, Karen Carpenter... There's a simplicity to her voice, yet complexity in the control of it that is unique among performers. Rarely is there any bombasity that is so common on the music scene today. "Gravity" is one of those songs that captures the essence of that "simple complexity." "Love Song" was the first song I ever heard by her and oddly enough I heard it in a commercial and tracked down who the artist was. We then saw her in Charlotte at the Neighborhood Theater venue right before she rocketed to fame. What a great treat to see this amazing performer in her nascent career stage. Love her artistry so much.
