Favourite Saosin song 🧡

Saosin holds a special place in my heart for life, their first 2 EPs plus “I Can Tell” and this song, I listened to so much circa 2007. Hearing it again in this fun new form just made my day! Plus wow, the box car racer reference! Absolutely wonderful as always 😊

Never heard the original, so gave it a listen. Your version is objectivly superior. And the speed up and higher key totally hits better. Im a Todd-fanboy, but damn it Im right.

Fun story about this song...when I was 19 (shhhh but it was 19 years ago) a super cute girl at work asked me for my band's demo, as she'd hurt I was in a good post hardcore band. I was, and it's a shame we never recorded anything complete and sellable, but that's beside the point. I asked our singer to burn a complete collection of all of our demos and song ideas, and he gave me a CDR that he said was exactly that. It was actually a copy of Translating the Name + all of the bonus tracks/outtakes available at the time, including this track, which he'd labeled "Ian's Last Christmas" (Ian was our guitar player). She came back to me like 2 days later and was like "OMG YOUR BAND IS AMAZING, I'M OBSESSED WITH IT, ESPECIALLY THAT SEVEN YEARS SONG!" and I had no idea what to do. It wasn't that crazy for emo dudes to pass off other bands stuff as their own in that time, especially in Chandler, AZ, but like...I felt so lame. I knew Saosin was too good for her to never find out what happened, and it still makes me cringe to this day thinking about her discovering the lie and thinking it was me that was behind it.

Okay, I listened to the original and it reminded me of why I didn't get into the more. As I was getting into faster harder music, they were staying slow and whinny. Great cover, I just kept wanting the original to be at your pacing. Great job

Saosin did so much to jumpstart the scene, I feel like they don't get enough credit for perfecting the "dude singing high and pretty over metal riffs" genre

I'm still here listening to that letters to God transition. It may be my favorite thing anyone has ever done.

The lyrics "Ash from what had formed over" are these your own interpretation of the lyrics? I've always wondered exactly what the lyrics are and have seen many different variations. Have to say I do personally like this one the best. Awesome job on this cover, one of my favourite songs
