Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall Atomic Man Unboxing & Setup

Спорт

In this video I unbox and set up the 2021 reissue of the Santa Cruz Jeff Kendall atomic man deck.
I compare it to the Jeff Kendall snake reissue and also try out the more roomy nose in a first Skate session. All music by www.jonbishopguitar.com

    If the "snake" Jeff Kendall has a really small nose I don't want to hear what you would say about the Corey O'Brien (iconic graphic, death with a fireball at its hand). That was my first "good" board back when I was a teenager. Love Santa Cruz boards since then. That new board looks awesome by the way.

    Thanks Jon for you very good videos. Regarding this one, thanks again. I nearly bought it one or two month ago, but although the design is excellent, I found the drawing a bit too dark. Finally I bought the last Santa Cruz model (with the drawing of a cat vomiting in the toilet). What disapoimts me, is the "made in China". It distroyed my good opinion I had toward Santa Cruz brand. What a bad surprise! China is neither not located in one of the historical regions where skateboarding was born nor a democracy.

    Hey Jon! Thanks for the vid. What a coincidence, I just griped my Winkowski Birdcage Santa Cruz deck today. It was quiet a challenge griping that Cruz Missile concave deck .Unfortunately the weather here is skateproof :(. so the only thing I could do is stand on the deck but that was enough to feel the weirdness of the tail. It feels short (although 6.59") and steep + there is no "pocket" as on typical modern deck. I wonder what was your impression of the tail on both Snake kendall which is a Cruz Missle 2 (6.59") and on this new Atomic man on Reissue concave (6,26"!!! that seems extremely short).

  • @JonBishopSkate

    @JonBishopSkate

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Dude Yeah, love the Missile II concave! It feels ace, the little kick on the end of the tail seems to lock the back foot in, it takes a bit of getting used to, the Atomic man is very similar, but not as pronounced. I’m gonna do a follow up review video as I felt it was too early to pass judgment after one days skating. I think I’m just more used to the Snake as I had a love affair with it at the end of the summer so I’m more used to it! That extra 1.75” odd of extra nose really helps for nose stalls, pivots and crooks though !

    @@JonBishopSkate I normally skate lucero 9,25" 15,5" WB, 6,875"-tail .But wanted to try something a bit shorter - 15"Wb. Guess my question comes from the fact that I can't actually test it out :(, :) Anyway - after skating f.eg. Anderson (6.875"tail) didn't it feel awkward to you to ride a 6.59 or even 6.26 tail? Would be nice if you could address that in a follow up vid.

    Hi Jon, your skating enthusiasm and gear knowledge is a source of inspiration, thanks for sharing! Considering putting together a similar board myself, so may I ask, what is the point of riding a very wide deck, like a 9.75 with narrow (i.e. not equally wide) trucks? Is not the fundamental ride behaviour of a skateboard determined by the wheelbase of the board and the width of the trucks? Does this SC board ride like any narrow(er) board with 15 wheelbase and Indy 159s? Wouldn't it be "better" to fit 9.5 or 10.0 trucks? Thanks again for your videos!

  • @JonBishopSkate

    @JonBishopSkate

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey dude Many thanks for checking in! Good points. It’s largely personal preference I recon. This deck would take 169 trucks, I just prefer the feel of 159? Remember these shaped boards are only 9.75 wide at one point around the middle. Where the trucks sit the board is around 8.5” so the 159 are a good fit.

    Hey Dude Yeah, it’s just over 3 ft. It’s very similar to the mini ramp I built. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGdtlcSeoNzKirg.html The coping is personal preference. I prefer it to stick out a bit for locking in, but that makes it easier to hang up. When I built my mini ramp I made the coping semi adjustable so I could tweak it as I went?

I don't see any other channels not only give tips on how to land a trick, but show how you yourself learned and the ins and outs of landing it for the first time. Absolutely brilliant and it sets realistic expectations for a first approach to learning any of the tricks you feature. And not only that, you revisit tricks later after you've improved on them. Excellent stuff.
