Sandhill Crane Call - 4K

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

These are a pair of Sandhill Cranes and they were doing unison call. Cranes can make their trumpeting call both in flight and while on land.
According to Wikipedia, sandhill cranes engage in unison calling when pairs make a complex and extended series of coordinated call. The cranes stand close together, with the female making two calls for every one from the male. They stand upright, usually with their heads thrown back and beaks skyward during the display. Their call can be heard from up to 2.5 miles away. These loud, resonating calls are often made by mated pairs to strengthen their bond and protect their territory. The unison call is a deep, low-pitched sound that varies in frequency and intensity, and is produced by the cranes' unique physiological features, such as an elongated and coiled trachea. Their relatives the whooping crane (Grus americana) is an endangered species in the United States.
