I always love how this tiny potato-shaped body manages to hide a neck twice as long as the body itself. It just looks like a regular borb and then he sees something he wants; _Zoop!_

I appreciate this so much! I've been able to view blue herons fairly closely, but the greens have always been much more shy and elusive in my experience.

I live in Washington state where the great blue and night heron's are as common as sparrow's. I never knew these birds were this savage and awesome though!

Great blue herons live almost everywhere except deserts I live in a swamp in Texas and my back yard is in a flight path for herons, egrets and cormorants Even in the vacant lot beside me that floods regularly They’re all in there feasting on frogs and crawfish

When I come across videos such as this, I'm absolutely amazed, I watched and thank the CREATOR for the wonders of HIS CREATIONS!!! I couldn't believe how they can swallow their food whole, but then again, it shows the WISDOM OF THE CREATOR GOD!!!

Thanks for the kind words. It was a hot uncomfortable day but worth the pain. Each year I can't wait spring and summer to get out and get more footage!
How long that neck really was? The bird has a deceiving look, with a stretchable neck. Awesome. 👍

Herons normally keep their long necks in an S-shape, with the back of the head held back near their shoulders. From this position they're poised to strike out at anything within neck's reach.

Good clean swallow on the fish but and easy one 6/10. The frog was kind of disorganized but more diffcult and the finish was clean and emphatic. 8/10.

Had no idea how predatory herons are ... how relentless and reptilian the behaviour ... especially how big their prey often is ... and ... like snakes ... how much stretch their necks have in order to accomplish swallowing their often still alive and 'kicking' meals ... they can sccomodate the massive size snd often awkward assemblage of limbs their hapless victims present ... Such beauty yet such deadly intent ...
