Lakhs in numbers were seen in western part of Rajasthan during monsoon season and other parts in winters and summer months. Since 2010 onwards their numbers have decreased drastically, now only seen in hundreds in western parts and in tens numbers in other parts. My observation is due to mobile radiation when 2G towers started installment from 2010 in remote areas now 4G installed sand grouse hatching has effected tremendously. Between 2010-15 in five years sand grouse sitting in the same region without any changes in their habitat decreased to 80-90%. It's alarming if someday can address it.🙏

Thankyou very much for sharing! Yes, especially the Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse is an amazingly powerful flyer adapted to the deserts. However, they also migrate long distances to collect water. They have the unique adaptation of absorbing water in their breast feathers and transport back to their nest for their young to sip from.

These are glorious breeds of the subcontinent. I tried to breed them but unfortunately all were stolen from my residence. I miss them a lot.
