It is disappointing to see this step well is not maintained well. When i visited my friend in Baroda last December, I asked him to take me to Vidhyadhar Vaav at Sevasi. Surprisingly he was not even knowing/aware about it even though he born and brought up in Baroda. Rani Ki Vaav - a step well pictured backside of new Rs.100 note - is a really amazing step well.

കൊട്ടാരങ്ങളോട് ഇത്ര പ്രിയമോ? കൊട്ടാരങ്ങൾ എല്ലാ നാട്ടിലും ഉള്ളതല്ലേ? പ്രത്ത്യേകിച്ചു ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ചെറു നാട്ടു രാജ്യങ്ങൾ ആയിരുന്നല്ലോ.

There is a great connection between Lakshmi Vila’s Palace and Travancore. In Travancore, we had a great Diwan in second half of 19th century. T. Madhava Rao, a native of Thanjavur, but a Maratha. Part of Tamilnadu was under Shivaji, Maratha king.Madhava Rao was a great Diwan who made Travancore a modern and prosperous state.But when a new King came to power, he did not like Rao and Rao had to leave Travancore. He went to Indore and finally to Baroda and appointed as Diwan. He was instrumental in making Baroda a prosperous state. Rao planned this palace and foundation stone was laid by him. The stone with his name is there in the palace. Raja Ravivarma also came under displeasure of new king and he had fo flee the state for his life. Rao gave him refuge and Baroda king gave him all encouragement and support. Near the palace Raja Ravivarma,s residence is still there in a dilapidated state. There is an art museum in the same compound where paintings and sculptures owned by the Royal family are exhibited. Many of the Ravivarma originals are kept there.

@@sarangadharanvasanthakumar2850 , Ravi Varma was not residing in Lakshmi Vilas palace. He was allotted a house in the same palace estate. It is in a dilapidated condition.

The best place for a retired or peaceful work life balance. Lived here for 16 years.

Sir, with all due respect, this palace is not 4 times bigger than Buckingham Palace. The ground surrounded by the palace is much larger than that of the Buckingham Palace, but not the building. It is actually misleading information. you can easily check it with a simple Google satellite map comparison. There are hundreds of misinformation about many of the Indian palaces and forts. By the way, Buckingham Palace is not very large but is not smaller than Baroda palace.

Stats are very interesting thing, like if you are earning Rs 25000 per month you are in the top 10% of earners in Gujarat, now that you have a figure as a base do the calculation of what the 9% will be earning to be under poverty and the gap between that 9% and the top 10%.
