San Luis Reservoir Early Fall Stripers

It’s always good to go fishing with friends and family and create those memories. But sometimes solitude is required. Went out for some peace n quite today at San Luis reservoir.
San Luis recently closed down the basalt side for the next ten years so I made the trek around the lake and launched out of dinosaur point. The sun was already out and I knew I missed the morning bite. I haven’t been to the lake in months so I left for the last place that worked for me. The rock wall before lone oak bay.
Sure enough it paid off with a double on the first pass trolling the atlas rigs. With each pass I was landing fish. When the sun finally crept out from over the hill top, the bite shut off and I was off searching deeper waters.
I tried a main lake point but didn’t spot anything. I speed across the lake towards the boat launch and found them in the middle of nowhere in 80’ of water.
For the next few hours it was double after double with multiple singles in the mix. The quality of fish was better here in the deep averaging 21-24” plus a kicker 26” near the end of the trip.
Once the sun comes up, move to deeper water and you’ll hookup. Most of the dinks I caught were in the shallower end. The schools in the deeper areas are scattered so you’ll have to cover a lot of water time find them. That’s why trolling the atlas rigs works really well when you need to cover water. If you don’t have downriggers, use a magnum dipsy diver to bring your atlas rig down to depth. If you can hit the 50’ depth, that’s where most of the action is.
Caught 25+ stripers on the sexy shad and blue shad atlas rigs trolling at 2.5mph-3mph.

Nice catching there! 👌 Regarding Basalt 10 yr closure, they should raise the dam from 10 feet to 20 feet for more water storage. There problem is it would cost an extra 1 billion dollars, but the water is of major importance too! 💧
no stripers in Mn. here but fascinating how they react to scent or no scent, I now tie Maribou jigs and USE scent, it does make a difference in bites

Nice catch. When your using the downrigger are you fishing close to the bottom I just bought two downriggers don't know much about thank you

Was wondering what happened to you, great to see you back with some new footage real good stuff. What color swim bait you use when the water is green like that?

Thanks brother. Life happens so gotta take care of priorities first. When the waters green and murky I like chartreuse but San Luis is different. Sexy shad seems to work better but in this trip blue shad and sexy shad both killed it.
