Houston’s diversity takes the cake for me, no matter what food you’re craving, you’ll find it and you’ll never feel out of place anywhere you go, different cultures everywhere you go

My opinion: Houston * City: feels like a more global/international city, but with a more blue collar working class feel too, got some of that Southern hospitality * Culture: lots of culture, scrappy dirty south culture, very ethnically diverse (e.g. white, black, South Asian in Sugar Land, East Asian and Southeast Asian especially Vietnamese), * Economy: historically based on energy (oil & gas), which meant the city would often boom or bust depending on energy, but today it's becoming increasingly diversified and less dependent on energy sectors * Education: Rice University is one of the top ranked universities in the USA, the Texas Medical Center is the largest medical center in the USA and perhaps world * Food: amazing, tons to eat, arguably one of the biggest foodie cities in the USA * Nature: not a whole lot of natural beauty * Sports: Rockets, Astros, Texans * Tourism: lots to see and do (e.g. museums, NASA, Galveston not far) * Traffic: terrible, equal to Los Angeles (where I'm originally from) * Weather: hot, humid, hurricanes, floods San Antonio * City: despite being a big city, it feels like a smaller place, family friendly, family oriented, completely unpretentious, nice, pleasant, down to earth, very friendly folks * Culture: where the Tex meets Mex, less diversity than Houston, mostly white and Hispanic * Economy: decent, but not sexy * Education: not bad, but not outstanding, UTSA is good, the Medical Center is good * Food: best tacos ever, Tex Mex! * Nature: lots of natural beauty, especially considering it's not far from the Hill Country * Sports: Spurs! * Tourism: The Alamo, River Walk, New Braunfels and Schlitterbahn, you're not from the Hill Country which is amazing (e.g. Boerne, Fredricksburg, Wimberley) * Traffic: actually not bad for a big city, at least compared Los Angeles, no toll roads! * Weather: overall better than Houston unless you don't mind humidity or hurricanes! But there are some hailstorms and there can be bad allergies during allergy season.

Thank you for this post. I'm actually going to move from Houston to San Antonio. My wife and I are tired of dealing with certain issues here with here family and to live in peace with no complications, nor drama. But we would like to live a nice clean safe area. Any suggestions? Thanks.

that's what I also thought about San Antonio - too. Traffic not as bad compared to Houston's traffic ; population wise, San Antonio reminds me of what Houston was 2 to 3 decades ago - less people, people friendly where they don't portray headstrong mentality as Houstons people does. I can go on. Though, Houston has had enough .

Born and raised in Houston but lived in SA for a few years in the early 2000s and will always love SA

The performing and visual arts in Houston far outweigh those of San Antonio. A plethora of theatre, Several symphonies, Grammy, Tony And Emmy award winning Houston Grand Opera, The Alley and Hobby theatres with a myriad of off broadway experimental theatre, 19 museums in the museum district. San Antonio is a nice town , but I wouldn’t consider it a city as I used to work there on temporary assignments. Houston on the other Hand is a city with great diversity of people , food and interests . The city extends to the Gulf of Mexico. So there are bay front areas and beaches on the gulf like Galveston.

Jobs and closeness to ocean as a healthcare worker and avid angler. I can get a job in both. SA is 2 hours minimum from CC. HOU is less than an hour from Galveston was the clincher. Getting close to retirement and CC will be the final. Thanks for this review.

The city doesn’t stop till u get outside 99 from downtown in any direction there is no break in huge freeways and populations. At any given time there can be 4 million people in Houston.

Fun fact. San Antonio and Houston are larger than L.A. Land Area wise. Also, they are building a lot of new houses and apartments here on the Southwest side of San Antonio so the traffic down here has changed a hell of a lot for the worse. Ya'll forgot to mention Frost Bank which was founded here so was Church's Chicken and coming from Mississippi I thought it was from Atlanta or Houston, but yeah Church's started in San Antonio. Go figure

Can you tell me if San Antonio drivers are as bad as Houston drivers? I’m considering moving to SA area after almost 3 years in the north Houston area, but the drivers out here are terrible. Same sort of vibe out there or better?
