Crime… look at the police reports. Before we moved, we learned that property crime in our area (southeast) is higher (and sure enough, both our vehicles have been broken into) but violent crime is low. We feel quite safe here.

@@SanAntonioTexasLiving it’ll be a while until we make the move we’re just waiting on our 3 oldest to graduate high school (2-3 years from now) then we’ll start looking into SA. In the meantime, we’re building equity in our current home to come down with a good down payment

Greg, love the video! Army Veteran that worked at BAMC almost 35 years ago... Can't believe you didnt mention the scorpions...unless the city has grown so much that it pushed them out. Scared the crap out of me the first time i saw them. Just the little brown ones..That and the little lizards on the side of my apartment building. LOL

I've lived in Colorado for 30 years and I'm tired of the 2 seasons of winter and July. I'll miss the mountains, but I really like everything you've said about SA in other videos, so I'm looking at houses there now. I have 100% VA disability rating and I'm pre-approved for $350k. I want to live on the outskirts of a city with at least 1 acre of land preferably. What are some good areas to look at for houses? Thanks.

Thanks, I appreciate you watching! $350k goes a lot further in the Far West Side and over on the NE Side in areas like Converse and Universal City... Although most of our clients settle in the FW Side after comparing the two. Homes with a half acre or more usually start around $500k, but there may be some flexible options in areas further out and adjacent to San Antonio. This video right here covers the top neighborhoods they've been moving to in the $300k price range: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJN5sbySk5C9YLw.html When were you thinking about moving?

@@SanAntonioTexasLiving I've been looking at houses for over a year now while I'm living with my dad. The problem so far has been the combination of most houses being double what they were 3 years ago combined with an almost 7% mortgage rate and even when I find a house I like, it either doesn't qualify for a VA loan or the seller doesn't want to deal with a VA loan/inspection. What complicates things is I'm not just looking for any house, but a retirement/forever home. All I want is a nice house in a nice area with a little land for under $350k, but most houses in that range are either 'fixer uppers' or were a good deal when they were $100k less 2 years ago... At this point I'm waiting for either house prices or mortgage rates to drop, and that's not happening because no one wants to sell and lose their 3% rate, which keeps inventory lower than normal. I'm exempt from property taxes with my VA rating, so that's not a factor and I'm single with no kids, so I can afford a lot more house.

I really hear you. We've talked with lots of folks that feel the same way and I known it's frustrating. It'll probably be several years before we ever see those interest rates again, if at all, and the market here is already starting to rise again. We've been focusing on helping our clients figure out what their personal "best case scenario" is given their own set of circumstances and the direction of the market. It's a tough conversation for sure, but one that's led to the majority of them finding the very best home available to them at the time. We'd be happy to have that conversation with you too if you'd be open to it.

@@SanAntonioTexasLiving I'm working with veterans united already when I was looking around DFW, I wrote Houston and Austin off lol. I haven't talked to a real estate agent in SA yet, but I'm waiting for the loan officer at VU to get back to me. I only have a handful of criteria for a house: A big room for my home theater, a big yard (at least 100ft from the next house over), and neighbors that won't use my house for target practice like some of the places I've lived before.

How loud does it get around the military bases?

  • @SanAntonioTexasLiving

The flight patterns out of Lackland and Randolph usually keeps the aircraft high enough over the surrounding neighborhoods to sounds like distant thunder. Although, every once in a while that changes and you can hear it quite a bit. It's actually much louder in the North Central part of SA where many of the commercial planes fly over for landing at the airport.
