I'm a mechanical engineer primary but I enjoy fixing electronics, to solder or braze aluminium in mechanics you have to remove the oxide layer, and then keep oxygen away from the surface because even at 1000c it won't melt. I would apply normal flux paste to the area (to keep oxygen in the air away) then use stainless steel wire brush to scratch the surface oxide away under the paste (normal practice for soldering/brazing aluminium in metal work, I don't know why it has to be a stainless brush, this is just how I learnt). Then tin the area through the flux paste as normal to create a pad.

Soren, the auto parts store sells flat heating element to defrost wind screen. The adhesive for that is electrically conductive. Might be worth a try. Watching all of your vids, thanks for doing them. I worked developing analog and digital cell phone systems and in computer design creation and repair since 1980.

You can use special adhesive tin foil. The current passes the adhesive. Don't know where to buy this special kind but I have some in an external (Seagate) harddisk. It's used to ground (for some reason) the 3,5" HD device with the rest of the case. It's an inch wide.

Maby not solder the connection but use glue instead and then specifycly silver glue this has a high amount of silver specifically for electronic connections to be fixed when soldering is not possible. I used it myself and i have to say it works amazingly well and the glue makes a great alternative for soldering!

I've soldered aluminum wires before but had to use plumbers flux and need to crank up the heat on the iron. I know it's not ideal for electronics but since it's not on the main board it shouldn't be an issue if you clean up the residue afterwards.

  • @prof8957

Very nice diagnosing! Would copper or alum foil tape solve the issue instead of soldering them?

I've soldered onto these aluminium tabs with 450°c iron with professional electrical 60/40 soldered but i have to do it first time its very hard to do after it gets gunked up with flux, you need to to use a cotton ear bud with acetone to remove the gunk an try again, I think it has something to do with a light oxidation even if the aluminium looks shiny.

I would try to apply a normal but strong shapping tape, and the to etablish contact with silver liquid painting for car glass defoger repair. I always keep it in case to repair tricky contacts on flat kapton cables or other, that helps a lot. That kind of silver varnish cost mad high but it even bear heavy current depending the number layers you apply on it

How about using an Aluminum, or copper conductive foil tape to splice the broken connection. The tapes come with conductive adhesive.

Almost as if it fell off the sofa a lot and the fractures started in the connections, very odd. I first thought the protection circuit in the battery was off because the battery voltage was too low. I wonder if aluminium solder exsists. Silver solder does exist, but thats not likely to work.

What i do is scratch the edges and make a hole on both pieces. Then i run a copper wire from both holes. Then i tight the wire and i put a little bit of solder just to keep it in place.Does the job for very long time. Try it and tell me.Another solution is placing one broken piece into another and make a fast shortcut with many amps so it can instantly solder the pieces together.

it's a sunlight problem , cloudy !! wants to start but can't and restart, not enough sun ...and bad mpt !! OK , I stop joking ,but for slodering alloys try low temperature bismuth alloy soldering , a bit like the one used on Pb free solder to get it to melt at low temp , many chinese sell this special soldering thing , melts at close to 300 centigrade and does solder alloy , I did 30 years ago to try solering aluminium under oil , never managed , and I was a professional for soledring , hope it helps you , young man :))

... i think changing teh battery is the best solution here: a very confined space, easily to make mistakes, and so on. but all the possible solutions for repairing are feasible, too, but no guarantee of a "final solve". if you plan to use the repaired battery for some amateur contraptions, ok, it's feasible, you can do it without fuss. 'cuz i'm a horribly lazy guy, who don't like to work every day at the same "fix"!... :)

Trying to solve an issue on an Acer Swift 5 (2018), it's difficult because MOSFET are controlled by specific chips after booting, primary 19.6vdc is OK on all chips and mosfet, solved an issue on 3.3VDC for accessories (only when SIO launch boot sequence, a shorted ceramic capacitor on the line). but I can't find the issue on VCore, 19.6vdc on ceramic capacitors but nothing on some outputs secondary voltages, gate is down (same during boot), now I could find 3.3VDC for accessories, 5VDC, 1VDC, 1.8VDC and 19VDC for battery charge )so battery is charging at this time, I'll try to add an 1VDC voltage (according schematics) after one of defective output coil and try to find heat element(s) on the line, because àt this moment I've got 0VDC bit not short with the ground.... 🤔🤞 Very difficult these new laptop, it will be complicated for repair... 😬😶🙃
