Samsung Tab Active 2 review

Ғылым және технология

If basic tablets are too delicate for your line of work-- rejoice! Samsung's new 8" Galaxy Tab Active2 is made for you.
With a rugged design featuring rubber non-skid bumpers all around this Android tablet is made for outdoor and construction-type environments.
I've reviewed Samsung's Android tablet before, so I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the operating system and the apps and functions. Instead, I'll focus on what makes this one different. it's that ruggedized design.
How rugged is Galaxy Tab Active2 ?
In addition to the special wrap on this tablet, the device can survive drops of up to 1.5 m...
This device passed United States military testing which puts it through 10 specific tests, including drops from 4.9 feet, extreme temperatures, dust, shock/vibration and low pressure/high altitude. My tests probably aren't going to be that extreme, but here goes...
It's water and dust resistant..
The Galaxy Tab Active2 and S Pen are both IP68* rated so it can stand up to the kind of dirty, tough work field engineers face in the field. Not to mention accidental spills in the office.
By the way... IP68 rated and that means is can beat being submerged in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minute
It can withstand extreme temperatures
And it's got 11 hours of battery life, you can replace the battery which is backwards compatible with the previous Tab Active, and it comes with the stylus, or S-pen.
Security
There's several security options for how you can access the tablet; choose from fingerprint recognition, face recognition, plus pin, or pattern access.
Various Sensors for AR Experience
Some special sensors have been built into this tablet; there's a gyroscope and geomagnetic sensors which are said to help folks like field engineers with site inspection or virtual training. Working in logistics of supply? The improved camera and barcode reading abilities plus an NFC sensor means you can scan products, ID cards and more.
The Galaxy Tab Active2 's specs look like this:
3GB RAM and a 1.6GHz Octa-core processor powerful enough to speed up usage when performing multiple tasks such as real-time data management and on-board navigation. It can also handle Augmented Reality applications. it runs Android 7.1 Nougat.
The tablet comes the standard apps like email, calendar, a web browser the G-suite of Google productivity tools and Word and Excel too. Of course other apps can be downloaded from the Play Store.
Samsung S-Pen
This tablet has the Samsung S-pen built in. Stashed in a dedicated and very secure slot on the top of the tablet, it's handy for those who like writing, or prefer the feel of a stylus for inputting into forms. As I've written before, the pen feels nice and tactile on the surface of the tablet; it doesn't feel like metal on glass like some styluses. it's nice and natural and is skims nicely across the surface, making accurate script.
Photo and video quality
The photos and videos taken with this device are vibrant and detailed, and they're definitely what we've come to expect from Samsung, who've made a great camera a priority in their devices.
This camera is an improved 8MP autofocus rear camera and ... (switch shot) there's a 5MP front camera. These cameras are said to be made for swift ID and passport scanning for companies that need that kind of functionality.
Overall thoughts:
This tablet is rugged, and definitely built for those who need durability in their tech. if that's you, and you're looking for an Android tablet for what you do for a living, you'll be pretty pleased with the Tab Active 2.

Really good! You should be sponsored, if you're not already! Concerning the tablet: I find 16GB to be far too little. With a few apps and no particular files on internal storaget, I'm at 15GB which means there is very little room for more apps etc. Have tried everything to free up space but should have had 32GB or preferrably 64gb, like on version 3.

I'm considering buying a tablet for personal use, and this one checks a lot of boxes for me... watching videos on my phone is a little inconvenient, and so is carrying around a laptop. But I don't want to just get a cheap tablet, I'd like one that's durable and reliable, that can handle multiple tasks like streaming videos, online browsing and taking quality photos... and as a part-time gamer, the physical buttons are a bonus!

Mine was just recently updated OTA to Android 9 (Pie) and the new Samsung One UI version 1.1 as of June 20th. (I am in the United States FWIW and I have the WiFi only version). I bought it about a year ago and it came out of the box with Android 7.1 Nougat installed, so this is the second major OS update I've gotten since it was new. I haven't had a single issue with it since new. The battery life is good, though not on par with an iPad or some of the better Android 10" tablets. I generally get around 8 hours in mixed use with WiFi on. If i use the energy saving function and I'm using it to read books or play a light puzzle type game and have WiFi off, it will last as long as 10-11 hours. Hope that helps.

It's been enough for me. I have a 64 GB Micro SD card as well (It will support up to 256 GB IIRC). I still have 6 GB free. I have 3 browsers, the Microsoft Office suite, a few games like Minecraft and others, the Kindle app and about half of my Kindle library and about 100 photos on it or so and a bunch of documents. I use the SD card for music and movies and additional data and I also have it connected to my Microsoft One Drive cloud storage. I think people who like to run A LOT of apps, especially games would have a hard time with the 16 GB of memory and should look elsewhere. This isn't a great tablet for serious gaming at all. If you're an average user who has maybe 25-30 apps at most and doesn't mind keeping movies and music and large files on the micro SD card, you'll be just fine. Incidentally, Samsung just started selling a 32 GB version of this tablet here in the U.S. at least this year. I would have bought that one had it been available at the time just for the extra headroom, but like I said, i still have 6 GB free.

@@rse6488 Do you use this for everyday use? I know this is 6 months later, but why don't you upgrade to a 256gb micro sd card? I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 with 64gb, and just added a 512gb micro sd... cause I like a lot of "head and leg room"!

I think they chose the Exynos 7870 because they had battery life in mind. Because it's an 8" tablet and it actually has a removable battery, it isn't as large as it would be in a tablet with a permanent battery that can fill every available crack and crevice. As it is, I get 8-10 hours. A faster, hungrier processor would have cut into that and made the price even higher. I think they were also considering most of the people buying these would be professionals using them for simple stuff rather than playing PUBG at full resolution and detail etc. For general use i find the performance completely adequate. It never lags or makes me wait FWIW. A higher resolution screen would have been nice though, but that would affect battery life a bit too. Still I'd kill for a 1080p screen in this thing. The one it has is good, but not great.
