We do pc and electronic recycling in ashland Kentucky. While we usually work with bigger companies like radio stations, phone retailers and schools, we dispose of basically anything electronic. You can drop off damaged devices at a local phone retailer. Don't let them lie to you! it is THEIR responsibility to send them off to places like us to be recycled if you request it! They may tell you some excuse, just let them know that you can't throw it away due to the battery and guilt them into doing their job.

Marcus, you just saved me my life savings with this short, here's how... watched this video, checked two Samsung note 5's that I had put away in a drawer because the screen broke and the gas leaked out and the screens went blank and I never got around to getting em repaired.. Lo and behold, swollen batteries on the both of em, and one literally almost seemed like it was ready to pop.. I immediately took them out and discarded them. The cabinet was made of wood, and right above the section where these almost-about to explode phones were placed, were my government savings certificates that had my entire life savings tied up in them... The reason I hadn't noticed or seen them from all this time was, 1 the light doesn't get there and they were at the back under a couple of other phones and wires.... Keep being awesome man... and thanks for the save... !!!

We deployed dozens of iPad Airs and Pros as kiosks at my previous employer. Every single one lost the wifi card right before the battery began swelling. They went full spicy pillow right after warranty like clockwork. If you notice your iPad can't see any networks and is hotter than normal, please check if the case is starting to form a gap! This became a massive fire hazard for us. The joke with local techs maintaining these was that the iPads were "going full Samsung" and eventually we had to say they were going full Apple; we had more iPads blow up in our system than the entire Samsung tab fiasco reported in the news.

@@blu1666 I'm in current possession of a Samsung phone and never owned an iPhone, chill. When a phones battery begins to expand, there is a REASON the company goes crazy trying to get it back. It's a hazard against your life and components in the phone have been expanded and broken. Can you replace everything broken? Yes, maybe. Should you? I wouldn't recommend it because the toxic shit inside the battery has leaked onto the phone, which can cause problems to your health down the line due to continued use. And even if you replace the battery, previous leaks toxins and components can affect the new battery and STILL cause an explosion. Long story short. Just (safely) throw it away and get a new one.

I think it depends on whether you keep charging them regularly after you stop using them. I still use an old S8 regularly and there’s no sign of swelling in it. One charge usually last 2-3 days with light use (reading ebooks/playing music/watching some KZread). However my sisters old A53 which she stopped using about 2 years ago and hasn’t used since, has inflated significantly and pushed the screen completely off. I had an S6 years ago and stopped using it for a while, as I’d been using the S8 instead. The battery never expanded but after being left uncharged for about 8 months or more, when I did charge it the battery would last only a couple of hours before dying. But having said that I’ve never had any issues with battery expansion on the iPhones I’ve used. The iP4 continued working fine, then gave it to a friend when I upgraded to the iP6. The iP6 worked fine until the infamous battery drain fiasco, but worked as well as ever after replacing battery. Then I changed from iP6 to my current iP12 about 18 months ago. But the ONLY reason I did that was because of the number of apps that stopped working after numerous iOS updates. Basically 60% plus of my most used apps stopped working or didn’t work like they should.

Meanwhile, one of my dad's old phones looked like it was about to pop, and he didn't understand why I was freaking out that he just had this danger balloon chilling in his basement.

Just (safely) throw it away and get a new one.

lol watching from a beat up phone and he's got a whole drawer of them chilling 😭😆
