Nice review as usual. The Gear VR is by far the number one mobile experience. Of course Daydream is still new, but the number of VR games and experiences on the Gear VR is incredible and growing fast. Developers are, definitely putting a big effort into the Samsung VR ecosystem.

Brian - Yes but that do not mean it have to be lock to samsung phones. I have philipis screen to my computer but my computer is a Asus. Plus the total cost then is not much cheapier than PCVR.

Guys, all that's lacking is a 4K screen, which would make it really super! I'm hoping that somebody comes out with the 4K screen where we don't have to buy a whole new phone to get it, and it's just VR.

the controller would be the best part for you, so I would say get the controller and if you like upgrade the headset to the 2016 and you are set

I tested and have it now. It works great. Be sure that you can use gear vr 2016 with S8+ and charge your phone by gear vr 2016 Don't worry and just buy it

I bought the galaxy S8plus.... and d idnt even know it comes with the gear VR... the Oculus Gear BE came to my house yesterday...its awesome...

I have a upgread cardboard and 2 other off brand headsets with built in headphones vr/ar modes and i haven't went to deep yet into what can be done but i REALLY would like to be able to watch Netflixs/Hulu/prime..and now after seeing your vid and others that ecosystems looks enjoyable i have a s8+ btw

normally I would say that the note 8 version should be good, it has space the S8 version might damage the top part and that is the weak point on the glass you know.

One big question. I tryed gear 322 and daydream 2017. The distance from eye to eye was good on daydream but on gear 322 was bad, to close to each other, so it was blurry. How is the eye to eye distance on gear 324 compared to 322 and daydream 2017?

NICE review TK , and i have one question after experiencing Gear vr with s6edge the biggest Con was that Grain/noise while we play video into it is that thing upgraded or still same bcz from s6 to s8 have same Display resolution or does daydream vr is better in that matter or i should go for Rift for Smooth video experience Thanks :)

I picked up the Gear VR (2017) for my Note 8. The quality is what's disturbing me. I've set my display resolution to its highest, adjusted the lens distance and even removed my Spigen neoplex screen guard. Is there something I'm not doing here? Any settings on the phone or the VR? TK Bay, I'd like to watch Gala 360 and Ocean Rift on VR, but all I get are minutes and minutes of the "twirly loading thing". Can't there be a progress bar for any loading that's going to take more than 30 seconds? Thank you.

And I forgot, the same thing happens with a New York Times 3-D story I wanted to see. Seems like there ought to be a progress bar if the things are going to take so long to load. VERY long time. Is there big deference in immersion between Gear-VR and Daydream and which one is better with out considering the number of apps in store (because i will download only little number of best games not a thousand one)

comparing the two, I would say the Gear VR is a better implementation, meaning comfortable, easy to use, better controls, and by far the ability to adjust the optics is a must.

Can I use the late 2016 gear VR(the one without controller)with a galaxy s9+?,I'm using mine now with a s7 edge but I ordered the s9+,so just wondering thanks.

If you have a phone that is supposed to work with the gear vr and you have a cardboard headset and game controller you can use the gear vr software by running the oculus app in dev mode

no issue for me and I paired it with 2 devices, the trick is to turn off the other Devices BT first

I have played for over 45 minutes and no issues. As long as the ambient temp is not warm should be ok for an hour worth of usage at a time

not a real difference between them other than the S8 has light leaking from the device being smaller. but overall experience is the same

There was rumor that the way the pixles were arranged on the s8 there would be less screen for effect.. TK Bay I have the 2016 gear vr . It's ok but I wish oculus would stop blowing up the 360 videos to giant sizes as this causes blurry visuals. Quite like the life sized ones as they look much better and much less pixelated.

How do you record what you see on the gear vr? I've tried to mirror mine s7 edge by wifi direct, but when you plug the s7 on the gear vr the s7 stops sending image to the tv, and the tv kind of freeze at the samsung logo of the vr starting

Hello! A long time ago, I owned a 1st model gear vr with my galaxy s6 edge. I got rid of it because it kept overheating. Does anyone know if the latest version of the gear vr has overheating problems? I have a galaxy s9. Does the headset cause battery life issues? If anyone can get back to me on this, that would be great!

I recorded the footage using the built in recorder and copied the footage to my pc. for streaming video I used to be able to use Chromecast to stream for others but it does not compensate the dual images from the viewer. Best thing is to record and replay for friends

So wait, you use your phone in this unit? Whats the difference in those expensive ones compared to this one? What I really wanna know is, if I get one of these VR units, can I play my older non vr games with it? Like my shooter games etc even though they aren't designed with VR in mind.. For example I play a game on steam called day of infamy. If these vr units work with the game I can still use my mouse and keyboard to play right? Maybe the head tracking wouldn't work but thats no biggie, I wouldn't expect it to work on non vr games.. Or what about bf1? Oh i think I need one of those expensive headsets to play pc games, this mobile one is only going to play phone apps..

my problem is does your cellphone still runs hot when you put your phone inside of it and how long can you run the cell phone before it runs hot that's the question. I have a Note 5 and that is why I stopped using my headgear. and did they address that problem with the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8?

depends on the Scene really , you have a better pixel density on the S8 but honestly playing with the S8+ worked better for me. no light leaking and better coverage

I mentioned that if you have the old on you just need the controller, the old one from late 2016 is compatible with all the devices the new is as well. you cannot go wrong.

Samsung Gear VR for the Galaxy S9 and note line next gen would be perfect if the controller had a companion controller with the toggle stick and a Halo of lights around each controller and the head case was able to read the controllers better than Windows new VR headset that is supposed to be a cheap little thing going down on price I also like that you can change the controller buttons be for Rapid Fire and stuff like that your fingers don't get tired

Sorry no AR with the gear vr headset. The Note 8 and S8 have some AR apps that you can use in the camera but that is it for now.
