Female here that so appreciates your video! Fixed it all by myself! Very great explanation in detail. I numbered the screws and placed them on a post-It note (1,2,3...) I took a picture of the numbered post it note on the dryer where the screw went to know exactly where the screws went back. #feelingtough

I have done everything he did, except front of drier at the bottom seems to be attached still. Wondering if there were more screws at bottom or are there latches? He didn’t show that part in vid so I’m wondering if there’s goop in there sealing it together… the top of my drier had rusted a little and I had to take knife to separate…

He said he thinks he knew what was wrong and that's what it would cost me. Well yeah he knew, you said here that this dryer is notorious for this problem. Giving the time of season, I was REALLY Not happy to hear that, and then I found you. You saved my Christmas!!! God bless you kind sir for this very useful and easy to follow instruction. Also thank you for the link to replace the part with a GOOD replacement!!

Matt, thanks for the video bro! You saved my family some headache and some dollars!!! Your clear instructions made it super easy to dismantle and put back together my dryer. My idler pulley was gone! And somehow my motor wasn't spinning at all. So I decided to take a look at the blower wheel, and found out a baby sock was stuck in there, and was keeping the wheel from spinning. Hence the motor too was stuck. I removed the sock, and since I already had the dryer completely open - Thanks to your instructions - I decided to clean EVERYTHING!. I even applied some lithium grease to the motor as well. Everything is back to normal. The dryer is running just like on day 1. Thanks again!

After watching your video I headed to the laundry room. I had my worn out pulley in my hand in about 8 minutes and then headed to my local appliance parts store. They wanted $58 for the pulley! I told them to keep it and came back home and ordered the one from Amazon. Even if I have to replace this every year or so (my original lasted 26 months) that amazon price is a good deal. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the fine video. I had to disassemble my daughter's Samsung dryer after she moved to a different home. Your excellent directions made the task very easy. It turned out that nothing was broken in the machine but it did have a lot of lint, dirt, coins, etc that had gotten in the fan which I removed. I then vacuumed out the whole interior and reassembled it. Ran like a new dryer.

Very helpful! Me, my mom, and step dad just took apart our Samsung dryer piece by piece at 1am just by following your video! My string to my robe got caught somehow in the drum. We we’re afraid that we’d have to buy a new one and we’ve only had this one for around 2 years. It was tedious trying to pull it out but we got it done and put everything back, now it’s spinning again! Thanks ❤️

yea, I bought both washer and dryer same issues. My wife loved them and it worked fine, but at two years, started having issues with washer, out of balance issues. Luckily, it was a recall so paid nothing for repairs/replacement. Now, we have the same issues with the dryer idler arm making a lot of noise. Replaced it. fixed, but am feeling ripped off now. Our last "cheap" washer and dryer lasted over 15 years, never had any issues. We were young and couldn't afford any "good" washer and dryers back then. Survived five major moves across the US and back. Never an issue other than dents and dings from moving so much. Decided to buy what we thought were better and higher end washer dryer set and it turned out to be just cheap, poorly made Korean junk. Lesson learned. Thanks Samsung. Buying only American again.

Our situation was largely the same as yours. We bought what we thought was a better washer dryer and it's been an expensive pain. Apparently, this idler pulley problem is common on this dryer, based in internet searches. Called Samsung's support line. They were as useless as teats on a boar hog and denied any problems with the idler pulley Went through the same recall as you on the washer and then the dryer quit 3 months after our 3 year extended warranty expired. I'm going back to the old style simple agitator washer when the washer quits.

Thank You Matt! Awesome video. Our dryer is only a year old and it started making a high pitched squealling sound. It's a Samsung Dryer Model # DV48J7700EW/A2. I got on-line with a Samsung Tech - via a chat - and asked him what Idler Pulley I needed for our dryer. He recommended part number DC93-00634A. Their parts operation wanted $37 for the part with about a week delivery time. I got on-line with Amazon and found the exact part (upgraded with Ball Bearings) for $14.97 with next day delivery. I received the part today and, with your expert guidance, installed in in about 1 hour. It now works like a champ.

Thank you for making this video! My dryer was making the exact same noise and this video helped me fix my dryer! Saved me what I can only imagine would've been a lot of money on appliance repair or needlessly replacing my dryer! I replaced the belt, the pulley, and 2/4 drum wheels. 2 of them I could easily get to and it was clear the bearings were worn, they had grease leaking from them. The other two were in pretty good shape anyway - still spun freely. Thanks again!

Your video was spot on. The idler pulley was shot and was positioned on the bottom of the dryer pretty much where yours was. The belt had been running on the pulley shaft since the wheel was gone - I wonder why the belt wasn't thrown when the pulley came off? The black belt shavings were enough to make me order a new belt when I got the replacement pulley. I vacuumed the entire area for lint, dust, etc. The only thing I can add is to make sure the new belt stays straight, groove side against the drum when installing it - mine twisted and was a pain to get straightened when putting it over the idler pulley and onto the drive pulley. When I cleaned out the fan cover, I noticed that the cheap edging material had torn and come off. I used duct tape built up the same thickness to repair the missing material, reassembled and it's all good.

I gotta say, half-way through your video I was thinking, wouldn't it be easier to go in from the back? The answer is a resounding YES! That is, if your arm is skinny enough to fit through the vent opening... on my model, it's just the round vent pipe opening... on other models, a larger panel comes off. AND Thank you for the diagnosis and replacement part links! I knew before opening the thing up that this is exactly my issue, based on the noise you recorded and the "clunk" you described.

Thanks for the video. I have the same type of dryer but it's from 2012. It has the same procedure to take it apart. I guess all the Samsung's that look like this one are probably similar. The most useful thing that you showed for me was how the belt goes on. As mine was not connected at all. Thanks!

If you’re a little dexterous with a single hand, I was able to fix the pulley through the exhaust hole in the back after removing the tube back there. Still needed this video though because I was almost certain there had to be a nut on the back of the idler pulley screw and I was able to see here that it was not the case. Just a screw! Thank you!
