while it may be true that this can be done via the exhaust hole, we have pets and this was a great opportunity to remove the insane amount of pet hair (and dust) that had built up over the past 2-3 years. Easy disassembly, quick parts-replacement, 30 second shop vac, easy reassemble. Thanks!

Really appreciate this tutorial; tried everything described, inspected all components discussed, and replaced idler pulley assembly. Still have a humming sound and dryer won't spin (unless I turn it with my hand first). When I turn the drum, it spins, but then there is a burning odor so I stop it. I'm at a loss at this point, everything passes the visual inspection but I may be onto buying a new dryer at this point. Thanks again!

What do I do if the belt seems to be too short. I have laid the belt over the same area the existing one was. When I pull the tensioner pulley all the way to a vertical position I still can't slip it over the lip of the wheel. I went back and made sure the part number was correct. I have also gone through and made sure it is in the same zig zag pattern as the video. I have the whole dryer taken apart so I have access it just seems like it shouldn't be this tight.

I cant believe that Samsung uses a bushing rather then a bearing. Mine is 2 years old and the idler pulley completely melted due to the friction on this bushing. Appliances are completely garbage these days. I replaced mine with a real idler pulley from an automotive store. It was a fraction of the price and works like a dream. It will also reduce the amount of times I need to replace the pulley in the future and causes less stress on the motor.

Tip for those who's forearms are too big, there's a knockout circle on the left side (when looking from the front) that is right in front of the motor/pulley. You can leave this open or just cover it back up afterwards with tape Be sure to tape around the metal edges so you don't cut yourself.

Some here are talking about just going through the exhaust vent on the back instead of this admittedly ridiculous disassembly Samsung has forced upon us. That is time saving to be sure, though an obstructed view, especially to those with larger arms. You are looking through the same 8" wide hole you are reaching through, WHILE you are reaching through it. And if you're also replacing the belt, which you might want to depending on the condition you find the white pulley in, (since the belt may have been damaged a bit sliding against the broken/sharp pulley) then you need to take it apart anyhow. No way you'll replace a belt without complete disassembly. Lastly, as some have mentioned already, this is a good opportunity to thoroughly vacuum the inside of the whole unit with the drum out, including around the motor, which can not only keep things from overheating but extend the lifetime of some parts. So in summary: If the white pulley has worn sharp or jagged you'll probably want to at least thoroughly inspect if not change the belt, and use this video. If you are very mechanical (I'm a 25 year hvac guy and I've worked on some really difficult tight stuff over the years) then you can pull this off. If not you'll have more difficulty. On the other hand if the white pulley looks like some I've seen in other videos where the beveled or raised edge is all that wore off, and it doesn't look sharp or jagged, try the quick fix through the hole video and save yourself a LOT of time. That video I saw is kzread.info/dash/bejne/hXtky7ZxYNC_e5M.html

I've had to replace the pulley twice in the last 6 months already, I just bought the dryer not even two years ago brand new... The pulley gets ground down by the belt causing it to wear and eventually snapping. Any way to prevent this? Brandon Ethington to properly diagnose your problem, you will need to take the dryer apart so you can assess the condition of the 4 rollers and idler arm. My idler arms bushing had worn and totally fell apart. The rollers looked just fine. I found it easier to install the belt to the idler arm through the back of the dryer. Also, you should check the inside of the blower motor to make sure it is clear of lint and debris as well. Hope this helps

All three sides are one bent piece with no accesses from the back just the vents that are punched out. I took mine apart following this video and it took exactly as long as the video. Samsung knows damn well that installing a proper bearing pulley would make the dryer last for years and probably never slip off or break, but it’s not worth the extra $2 since once it’s out of warranty they don’t care. They want to sell you a new dryer.

I would say pointless cause it will be coming apart shortly after when the drum rollers do the same so better to just grease them when doing the pulley

The roller in mine was completely melted, was just a flat ring of plastic when I opened the inside. Dryer is less than 2 years old. Cheap junk.

Same here. Came with the house I bought. Paid 42.75 for a new piece and it works again...until that one melts I guess.

Mine melted aswell, my dryer (Samsung DV40j3000ew) would turn on but wouldn't spin. Took it apart and found the culprit. The belt was off the idler pulley because the pulley melted. Mine looked like some hot lava had got to it haha.

this would be a lot easier if it was the back you could open. then you could see where the damn spring goes

You cannot do this through the exhaust hole because you have to realign the belt on the pulleys once you replace the roller. There is no easy way out, but thankfully taking it apart seems to be pretty idiot proof

You can unscrew the rear vent hose and access the idle from there to save an hour 🤦‍♂️

Simply the easiest dryer to take apart for repairs, GE, Whirlpool, Amana are all made with unnecessary complexity, not so Samsung.

Nope. Take the exhaust cover off and the idler pulley will be right in front of you. Done. Dismantling everything is crazy. Personally I roll the dryer forward onto its door so I can do the job standing. I put a cushion down first, for the door. I honestly don't understand why this video and the other DIY vids all tell us to go in through the front. I can't see any benefit, at all. I think the industry wants me to see this 100 step process and just give up and call a pro hahaha.

This video is not based in reality. The drum is in the way when you put the belt back on. Poor design. You need a panel on the back to make repairs easier.

No need in this much disassembly. You can simply pull the vent assembly off and reach everything from there. This is a good video but its a waste of time to go this far

Actually, you can't get the belt off like that, and there was a lot of belt material all over the motor from the rubbing. Plus I wanted to replace everything so I did the belt, tensioner and four rollers.
