Samsung Dryer Drive Motor Replacement

This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the drive motor on Samsung dryers. The most common reasons for replacing the drive motor are if the dryer won’t start, stops turning during the cycle, trips the breaker, makes a humming noise, or won’t turn at all, and more commonly defective components have already been checked.

    Thank you 1000 times. Only had an issue with getting the blower wheel off. I used a socket over the bolt and tapped until the wheel started to give and the bolt started to push away. Years of use had it frozen on tight. But your video is spot on excellent. Thank you.

    So, if you do this job - please note an important couple of steps that's are not really referenced in the reassembly! I learned the hard way, so head this comment. When you install the motor (4:06 mark) make sure it's aligned properly on the mounts and, at the 4:38 mark, be sure you spin the blower wheel around a few times to make sure it's spinning freely. IF the motor is only slightly too forward or too back on the mounts, it will cause the blower wheel to hit/bind up on the housing! I learned this the hard way, went through the whole job and then had to tear everything back down because the motor was pulling the blower wheel out of place by probably 1/32 of an inch and binding up the wheel. Also note, the motor I received had the belt drive (rear of motor) screwed on, and the threads are "normal" which means when I tightened the blower-wheel nut (reverse thread - reference 4:35 mark in this video), it actually "broke loose" the nut that drives the belt. So, I had to basically get a bind on the blower-wheel blades (not the nut) so I could re-tighten it. Just a note for reference, my dryer is a Samsung DV337AEG/XAA which has a plastic housing around the blower vs. metal in the video but I'm fairly certain my statement above holds true for both.

    Thanks for breaking these steps down Barney style. As I got further along in Disassembling it, I started worrying about how I was going to put it all back together because I lost track of my steps. Love how you showed how to put it back together step by step. Just installed a new motor and so far it has worked through 2 cycles.

    Thanks for this excellent repair video. My Samsung dryer belt snapped yesterday. I decided to replace the drive motor on the unit at the same time I did the belt, since the dryer is about 8 years old. Everything went very smoothly this afternoon. Piece of cake. I have never seen nuts rotated CLOCKWISE to remove and COUNTERCLOCKWISE to secure Is this is a correct instruction? To do this I found a tool (in my case a vice grip) that was short enough to "hold onto" the belt drive nut and swing down to touch the bottom of the dryer. Then I could put pretty good torque (clockwise) on the nut and got it loose.

    These instructions are fantastic. However, I'm stuck. The video shows the tech easily pulling the blower wheel off of the motor shaft. However, mine will absolutely not come off. It rotates very slightly, but will not move forward and off of the motor shaft. Any suggestions for how to get the blower wheel to begin moving?

  • @repairclinic

    @repairclinic

    10 жыл бұрын

    The blower wheel will sometimes get stuck on the shaft. The problem is there is no way to get to get behind it to knock it off. The only thing you can do is spray some penetrating oil on the shaft and try grabbing the wheel at the edges and wiggling it back and forth. You can also try tapping the blower at the shaft to break it loose . If all else fails you may have to break the old one off and replace it with a new one.

  • @hifi239

    This happened to me also on a 7-year old samsung. I didn't want to sacrifice the blower wheel. Instead I removed the screws below the motor and removed the whole motor and blower assembly. Then I removed the motor mount clips so the blower wheel could move back and rest on the housing. Then I supported the housing, motor down, and tapped on the shaft with a hammer. It came off.

    Sometimes the blower wheel nuts can be difficult to remove. It may help to use larger wrenches with longer handles to give you more torque. A cordless impact driver (if you don't own one, perhaps you could borrow one from a friend) would also be a good way to remove the nut. Sometimes just sliding a pipe over the handle of the ratchet that is 4 to 5 inches longer would also help. The only problem there is finding the right size pipe. Hope this helps.
