サンソン・フランソワの弾くショパンのピアノ協奏曲２番、40年前、15歳のときにレコードを買ってきて初めて聞いて、それ以来何回聞いたかわからない音の映像を今はじめて見た。こうやって、目を閉じてこんなふうな指さばきで弾いていたんだ。オーケストラのあのフルートの音はこの人がこんなふうに吹いていたのか、こんな指揮者でこんなふうに振っていたのか。レコードの解説文やジャケットの絵や写真からだけ音を聞いて想像していた世界の実際の映像だけどにわかに信じがたい。

Une main gauche à rêver. Elle structure tout le récit de la main droite et contribue à la clarté de la ligne mélodique. Une clarté et un rubato uniques.

On ne peut pas dire mieux. Frédéric Chopin me sidère complètement. Le silence de la demeure de Nohant est de nos jours encore habité par sa Mazovie natale.

Quelle merveille et surtout quel interprète, je ne me lasse jamais de l'écouter ...

Samson Francois devait être très attachant. Son jeu révèle une grande sensibilité. Sans ostentation..

Son Larghetto dépasse l'entendement tellement c'est beau dans le rendu. On dirait un tableau contemplatif de grand maître, et ça l'est!

He died not long after this, at the age of only about 45. Tremendous loss. His Ravel interpretations were always outstanding too.

What a superb performance by Samson Francois! I have listened to him on audio but to see him perform live is awesome!

This guy was an absolute marvel. The technical proficiency is something to behold.

Excellent conductor and orchestra. Strong and vibrant. As for Maestro Francois, I am overwhelmed. His sound, phrasing; just his complete musicianship and being, has grabbed my heart and psyche.

Une excellente technique parfaitement maîtrisée qui lui permet de ne jamais donner l'impression de "forcer" et un comportement très sobre face à l'instrument ce qui nous change de certains interprètes qui semblent parfois terriblement torturés par l'inspiration.

Absolument, il n'appartienent pas à la même catégorie. Rubinstein porté politiquement par les média pendant un temps était un avant gout de l'interpretation médiocre et de la technique superficielle actuelle qui se cache derrière la pédale et les accents.

I know a pianist who heard him and it was well known at the time one would hear something that sounded nothinglike what had heard before intermission. Francois had serious problems not mentionable in polite society.

@@esejsnake1503 Yes Cortot was an outstanding piano master but his technique was filled with false notes and his doigté was so so.... But I love his historical interprétations on HMV recordings to! He was near to Maréchal Pétain government, a big mistake he did in that dark WW2 involvment... Best regards. Emmanuel

@@liberte5847 yes, he was hated for that (never mind his reasons). He did allegedly help a lot of people from that position, but I also think taking it was a mistake. His earlier recordings are much more error free. I absolutely love most of his Chopin, the music really comes alive in his hands. There are places where the stylistic choices are questionable (at least fron today's perspective), but mostly he still sounds fresh and animated after all these years.

Samson François was the last romantique international pianist. An incredible musical man he was, doing fine recordings for HMV records Company. An outstanding great musician, thrills and harmony man. But there are others of course, but in the 1960's and 1970's he was the very first one without distinction. From Chopin to Ravel and others distinguished first rate 19th and 20th composers, including John Sebastian Bach in 78 rpm Columbia blue label recordings. Have a nice musical week-end! Népotisme. Il ne faisait tout simplement pas parti de la caste qui monopolise médias et les lieux de spectacles comme d'autres artistes beaucoup moins bon. Pareil pour Cortot. Il leur fallait donc être nettement supérieur pour faire carrière contrairement à d'autres.

I remember what I was doing when I was 19 a key moment in my life as my mother decided she had to be the master rather than my piano master at the Ecole Normale Samson Francois attended before me. Samson Francois would not or did not have to put up with this thankfully. He had backers besides the original backing of his his parents and a strong independent spirit supporting his great talents, hard work no doubt, and the old too often used “genius” or perception he would let no one curb. Hopefully these videos will live one, and thank you for sharing this one. Wonderful.

@@martinehamon3818 Chopin n'a jamais eu besoin d'un professeur de piano et n'en a jamais eu. Son premier professeur de musique était un violoniste pas un pianiste et le deuxième Elsner un compositeur qui déjà était dépassé par le pianisme de Chopin et n'a pu que l'encourager. Ce sont les mots même de Cortot. C'est l'enthousiasme des parents qui bien sur est le plus déterminant ou son défaut dans le cas néant et non pas la pression sociale.

Urgh what's the point in cutting the orchestral introduction in half at 1:41? Bet Chopin wouldn't be happy!

Très juste mais les concerti de Chopin ne laissent pas grand chose à l'orchestre de toute façon l'écriture est tellement centrée sur le piano.
