Sampling Classical Music From A Cassette To Make Ambient Music - Roland SP404 MKII

Музыка

Here's how I take Cassette tapes and use them to make Ambient pads for my live set! Thanks to the amazing Roland SP4040 MKII this process is a dream and helps create stuff that sounds amazing right out the gate. I really need to get a dedicated sampler. Ive been cautious as I struggle to learn new tech, especially with drop down menus. Problem I have is I use plundertronics, vinyl, old cassettes, open reel, banks of pedals, its a lot of kit for a gig, especially if you're performing in another town, cant get a vehicle to the venue or park it. I could run an open reel backing track through a few delay pedals and have all the ambient drones, indusrtial sounds in a sampler. The beauty of old tape and vinyl is theres so much out there in junk emporiums, spoken word, sound effects as well as music. You never know what ypu'll get on each recording, and it usually has inbuilt, genuine lo-fi, down to the condition, original recording techniques and condition/quality of playback device. You can create genuine flanging and also make loops. Its hands on heaven. Until you run out of the necessary storage space lol.

    Awesome man this is great. Im finally using my 404 mk2 as an all in one versus just an effects box, ive been doing everything with my mpc live 2 for a while now but i just loaded all my samples, chops, and random sample packs to the mk2 from my live.

    What is the storage situation on the SP404?? Can it store complete tracks?

  • @NikBartunek

    @NikBartunek

    10 ай бұрын

    It's got 16gb of onboard storage, but you can also load up an external SD card as well. It can definitely store entire tracks. I've seen it used live in this way to simply trigger entire songs while the musicians sings on top or performs with an instrument.

    The brand is listed as Rybozen, but you can find all kinds of similar if not comparable cassette players on Amazon. I tried to find one that wasn't too expensive at had a decent rating. Good luck if you take the plunge!

    Very nice. BTW it's not the "Fidelio Overture" it's the "overture" (the opening piece) from the opera "Fidelio".

  • @RichardMcRichard

    @RichardMcRichard

    Yes, so it's the Fidelio overture, Op. 72. That is what it's called. Just like his Coriolan overture, just like Wagner's Faust overture, just like Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy overture. What do you think it's called? 😂

    Wolfgang Voigt of Gas (Kompakt Records, Cologne, Germany) did this 30 years ago and many artist before him in the 60's. You didn't make this technique up guy.

    Credit where credit is due! Good to know! Definitely didn't mean to imply I invented this technique; this was merely to show how I create these pads for my live sets. Thanks for clarifying!
