4 Ways to Use the SP404 MKII for Ambient Sound Design // A Secret Tool for Lush Soundscapes

Музыка

In today’s video, we’re taking a look at 4 of my favorite ways to use the Roland SP404MkII for Ambient sound design. In my time with the SP, it's become quite the secret tool for lush soundscapes. These 4 techniques work great for ambient sound design, but also will work wonders for designing samples to chop for beatmaking. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these! Im currently on vacation, so these are clips from my “Building a Beat” livestreams right here on KZread. Each episode’s genre is voted on by subscribers during the week. They’re a ton of fun, so be sure to subscribe if you’d like to join

@@sunwarper It's been the same in my experience. I've had an SP404SX for 10 years and suddenly over the last year I started exploring it and was so blown away. This video specifically made me realize how to implement it as an instrument, yet again haha.

@@remyvegamedia That's awesome! I've never used an sx, but there's something about it (even now with the MKII out) that's so fascinating to me. So happy to hear the video got you exploring

I can't put my finger on what song exactly but the first part of this video sounds just like a King Krule song. Great work and great ideas. Thank you for sharing this!

To be honest it sounds like a lot of King Krule songs lmao

Cheers! That was some improvised guitar that I sampled into the sp and dropped an octave. Gives such a haunting tone to it. I’ve never heard of King Krule, just checked them out and definitely worth a deeper dive into the discography.

cool song. what kind of stand are you using? do those trays come with the stand?

Cheers! I've linked the stand below. The trays are just pieces of wood I bought and attached some metal on one side to act as a stopper. Here's the synth stand: amzn.to/3XTzta1

Can I ask is that literally guitar straight into the 404? I know the 404 has some direct options for guitar - amp sims etc. Guidance welcome as I already play ambient guitar music without all the trappings of an amp and a desire for “good tone”. I just want to express myself and I’m perilously close to pulling the trigger on a 404 mkii

It is indeed, the SP404 MKII has an amp sim as an option for input fx, so I was using that on the way in. Here's the full livestream that's from: kzread.infohalrLccY0RU?feature=share As a guitarist, I love the SP for how much it can color the sound etc, but it does have a bit of a learning curve. Once it clicks its a versatile tool!
