Sample Modeling Solo & Ensemble Strings (Ver. 1.1) - Quick Look & Review

Музыка

Here's my impression of Sample Modeling's updated Solo & Ensembles Strings (version 1.1) . Bottom line: a truly great and flexible library. NOTE: I've just downloaded version 1.2, and there are a number of improvements that won't be reflected in this video.
Full Disclosure: A copy of this library was provided to me by the manufacturer for a fair and unbiased review. All opinions are my own.

    The fast legato passages are amazing, considering it's all played out of the box without having to use a keyswitch.

     @Robert Gregory Browne You could get around the limitation by using the "CC Curve" Multi Script, this would allow you to set max/min and also adjust the curve however you wanted

    Actually your complaint is the very first thing I wanted to check on, and I would very much like it fixed. I own Audio Modeling Cello and that's a gripe I have - that the vibrato control is a bit sensitive and needs to be adjusted afterwards (also vibrato rate needs a dial-in feature to dial-in a threshold, and it refuses to go slow enough for my taste in very slow musical situations.

    Fricking love these strings. Interesting as the strings have been snapping vibrato back to cc1 since I upgrade to version 1,1. My only issue is tha the ensembles at pp/p can sound a bit muted, as if there's a veil in between the instrumetn and the listener. But the control is incredible and the sound is great too!

    Try adding a little OTT (Free: splice.com/plugins/3788-ott-vst-au-by-xfer-records) to the track and set it up with CC1 to only kick in at pp/p. That might liven things up for you.

    Is it possible to assign multiple microphones to the instruments? I want to load within MIR Pro.

    It doesn't have multiple microphones. I'm not familiar with MIR Pro, but I assume it supports Kontakt instruments and whatever output configuration you use.

    Can you provide the MIDI of your examples? For some reason I'm somewhat struggling with this library, even after watching with the tutorials/menu and having no problem with other libraries.

  • @RobertGregoryBrowne

    @RobertGregoryBrowne

    Unfortunately, I no longer have them. I'm using TouchOSC with an X/Y pad married to CC1 and CC11, which allows me to control dynamics and vibrato simultaneously. The library has a multitude of controls, so you might trying looking at each of those more carefully to get the results you want.

    @@RobertGregoryBrowne Then a question if you wouldn't mind. I seem to get noticeable gaps in my legatos, would you say this is an unavoidable character of the library, or something that can be worked around? I've read the manual up and down and am very experienced with string libraries, but am just struggle getting a continuation of sound.

  • @RobertGregoryBrowne

    @@ITSOVER9000notes I'm not sure what gaps you mean. I haven't noticed any. If anything, I think the legato "bend" is a little too strong at times and I tend to use the sustain pedal to play detache more often than not. You might try playing with the portamento controller to see if that makes any difference for you. But because I'm not sure what "gaps" you're talking about, it's difficult for me to answer. You might try going to the VI-Control forum. Start a thread and ask the question and maybe one of the developers will respond. They are very helpful.

    So their "Strings" library is "audio sampled" and not "physically modelled" right?

  • @RobertGregoryBrowne

    @RobertGregoryBrowne

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's a combination of the two. The strings are sampled, but their own proprietary form of physical modeling is used to manipulate the samples.
