Having driven many thousands of kilometers on very soft sand dunes, with a standard light weight, low horse powered Suzuki Stockman, lj 80, with an 800 cc, 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine, I found that it needed very special soft, ballooning tyres, to form a large footprint on the soft sand. In doing so, it was very capable of travelling over the softest sand, which most 4wds would sink in. The sidewalls would bulge and form a very long footprint on the sand. Most normally available 4wd tyres have far to ridged sidewalls, and do not allow the light weight little Suzuki to form a large enough footprint, to be able to float on top of the soft sand. At 13.46, it shows no appreciable bagging of the tyres necessary to float on top of soft sand. If there is too much "high pressure", not "low pressure" then the footprint is too short.

@@Nic26482648 they underpowered though. Everything you say is correct but even with 1200cc engine you either bog down in 3rd low or scream the ring off it in 2nd low in real soft stuff. I love them but could do with more grunt.

Tom you could use a dune buggy wiper motor too.. they have the switch on them and it just takes 1 hole to run the arm thru. Switch is included on the motor also. You can add 2 or even 3 on larger windows and run them independently.

Colby's imaginary Jeep was doing pretty good there! See, it's all about attitude! Anyone can have fun on the dunes! The best ideas happen over lunch - so true! I can't wait to see what you guys do to get that Sammy trail ready! That little bugger looks like it would be fun with the proper mods! Great video! With a special team of people!

3:45 here in NoCo, we sometimes call goat head thorns, “puncture vine,” but mostly goat heads. They’re terrible, especially this time of year, but we also have sandburs which I think are worse. They have barbs that make them stick to everything including skin and makes them harder to grab to remove. And, after removing them, the pain lasts longer from sandburs.

I just did a Samurai build for myself. I wanted one after driving a friends on trails in 1989. Now I’m 53 and finally have one. I did a axle over spring lift and added a couple leafs from CJ5 lift springs. It now has a Toyota 22R-E, Toy 5 speed and T case. I put 5.38 gears in the stock axles and a mini spool in the back. It sits on 35” Cooper M/T’s. I welded up an exocage for when it rolls (not if). Now I’m thinking of using a Prius steering column for electric power steering. I topped it off with a roof gun mount for my Browning M1919A4.
