This will be fun. Hire Katlin! A consideration. I spent 31 years in big wreckers. I've had Samurai's & a Vitara. Great offroading because they're short. Your issue will be wheel base vs front end weight. Wreckers hang most everything off the back. So remember this formula. Empty Front Axle Weight (A) Diveded by 2 Times the Wheel Base in inches (B) divided by the overhang (C) Equals the maxium save weight you can tow & maintain steering. (X) (A÷2) X B ÷ C = X. I know.... it's algebra. But the math doesn't lie. Overhang is the distance from the end of the boom to the rear axle. 1500 faw /2= 750 750 X 80" wb = 60,000/ 60" overhang = 1,000 lbs save lifting weight to tow. This is if your front axle weight is 1,500 lbs. Hopefully you can get there by adding a winch. Since the Samurai's weigh 2,000 lbs. If you 4 link it & stretch whe WB by a few inches? It might help! Have fun. Make It Katlin's project & ride! This will be great to watch. Thanks

Hey Matt, if you're looking for a mini wrecker look for one of those bongo trucks or mini truck. It already has a 8ft bed on it. It might help you save some time in modifying that Suzuki. Then you can turn the Suzuki into a mini banana so you have a support vehicle for the tiny trails. Just my suggestion, really enjoying the videos. Take care.

The samurai is a great idea! Take a look at some of the old Willys rigs with booms, like Moe the Toe a ‘46 CJ-2A. Keep it compact, full of torque and low low gears. Make it so you can cary a small rig out when they pancake all 4 wheels, no trailer, no dragging but pull it up and carry it.

I like the idea, but clearly that thing will need A LOT of work. You're going to need practically a whole new engine to avoid stalls and give enough weight to actually cling-and-climb. Lower gears, and some pretty serious counter-weights not unlike how the Mega-Wrecker is occasionally braced. This is going to be a very interesting build!

I love the concept of a micro wrecker and like another viewer wrote, it's going to need a lot in the way of power and suspension. What intrigues me the most is how you can keep it anchored. The point of a boom on a small vehicle like that is for lifting while on very narrow roads. In the case of a shelf road you'll want that boom for lifting small vehicles that have gone over the side. For that to keep such a light wrecker on the road, you might think about either more winches, one on each side, or adding telescoping or folding out riggers that can widen the foot print when lifting. Loving the Channel, Keep up the great work!

Tom Tom! Paint it in the two tone scheme like they came from Chevy...brown over tan! As for the mini wrecker? Awesome! Hire her 'cause her experience with wheeling will be an asset for sure! Thanks for the vid and peace out!

Friend of ours got his F250 sunk in the mud out in the woods, like Blue Steel. It was sunk to the axels. Called several wrecker service and no one wanted to come out. Until refered to a guy who specialized in this type of situation. Guy shows up in a Isuzu pickup on what looked like a 6" lift and mud tires. It was just the frame, motor, and the shell of the cab with a roll cage built around the cab. Huge winch mounted on top of the cab. Made sense, we all doubted but he pulled it out no problem. Smart actually and coolest thing I've seen.

When they first arrived in N. America I had a contract to supply carpet set and rear seat as a dealer option. Fun car!! the big guys would go out and race around in the bogs, then the Sam wrecker would go in and tow them out. The Sam was light, so it did not sink in, so could get close enough to winch out the Chev Ford, Jeep etc. Beat your idea by a few decades. :)

You also need to change the gears in the transfer case for a wider split between hi and low range. My cousin had a stock Samouri and when we changed the gears it made a world of difference. No bouncing around over rough stuff.

Tom: If you want to go with the shop colors for the paint, but a bit different too; how about the highlight grey that's around the MORR logo (or the grey on the Morrvair) for the brown of the two tone. And the Banana yellow, for where the beige middle stripe is? Maybe just slim down the width of the yellow stripe.

  • @Manu__R

I think dig dug would look good with the cream in a stripe across the middle, brown on top and below, and white on top and below the brown. Like a 5 layer cake

Yes to Kaitlyn 👍! With a mild makeover. Lumbejack boots, pants are good, MOOR tshirt with sleeves cut off, MOOR hat worn backwards, double braids and a bandana somewhere. Why are there no bananabandanas? Samoori needs about a 3 foot stretch, 37 minimums with total suspension overhaul, and a twin turbo inline 4 gas or diesel.

One of my favorite upgrades I did to my old samurai beside the 6.5:1 gears In The transfer case, was a bicycle gear shifter mounted to the gear shift that ran to my throttle. So I could run my throttle with my hand while crawling. Slowing me to use fineness the break and clutch with my feet.

I watched your channel before. Now I'm subscribed! Been working on and driving samurais for 15 years. Can't wait to see what route you go on the build. I'd suggest going links with the suspension and putting a 2.0 or 2.3 aero motor in it. Electric Power steering can be taken from an old Prius and welded in place. So many options.

  • @jeremyshannon2296

Another option since you're adding weight to the rear would be to counter balance with a heavier motor like a 4.3 vortex. Plenty of power without worrying about wheelies when you take off because of the boom
