That first home run... that was probably the biggest home run Sammy ever hit in his career. Entering the at bat with no postseason homers yet, and his team is down by 2, down to their final out. He couldn’t have possibly picked a better at bat to hit that first postseason homer. Amazing.

I am thankful for the 2016 Cubs team but the 2003 Cubs were my favorite too. For some reason, seeing them win in 2003 would've meant more to me then as opposed to 2016. Regardless, Sammy Sosa is my all-time favorite Cubs player. He doesn't need to be in any kind of Hall of Fame to be remembered fondly.

What a bomb. There’s something beautiful about home runs to straight away center field. Wow. Still can’t believe that via lost this series. Imagine a Cubs Yankees World Series back in 2002-03?

Totally agree with you! It was so tough when they lost in game 7.

The greatest swing in baseball history imo. I'll never forget seeing it in person as a kid. The electricity in Wrigley field was incredible. Thanks to Sammy Sosa for the great memories.

Steroids, corked bats, selfish, teammates hated him + he never learned how to hit a cutoff man. It all adds up to 🤡. @@johnnyb980 yes because the MLB ‘definitely’ didn’t know that he (and McGwire, and bonds, etc.) was on steroids… otherwise they ‘definitely’ would not have marketed them… whether you like roiders or not, the steroid era in the MLB produced some of the best baseball of all time and the MLB knowingly promoted that era. Sammy Sosa brought personality along with that, and set the foundation for marketable MLB superstars today.

The guy had talent nobody can deny that, he probably did steroids who knows but steroids don't give you better eye, he was pure talent like others players like Mcwire , Bonds, Ken Griffin, jose Canseco among others like Jeff Bagwell Larry walker there are no players with that caliber anymore that's why baseball is a little different then before when those guys used to play. Baseball was a little more fun to watch.

I missed that game because I was on a class trip that week and I've watch many Cubs highlight clips on youtube throughout the years and haven't ever found that game 2 homerun before either, surprisingly. I'm pretty sure I just saw it for the first time and my mind was blown. Nobody hits it there.

This was awesome!!! I slightly remember both of these homeruns! I was a big Sammy Sosa fan when I was a kid, but not a Cubs fan, I did cheer for them in the playoffs since the Pirates weren't in the playoffs.

I agree. It was a great time. I remember in that same era (2001), when Jason Giambi was an absolute monster with the bat. Every at bat (every pitch) was must see with him. He almost single-handedly beat the Yankees that year.

That second home run has to be one of the farthest balls ever hit. It's 408 feet to the base of the center field wall and it landed behind the camera station, which must be 30 rows deep. They estimated it at 495 feet but that's definitely short given the ball's trajectory. Anyone who's ever sat in that section can tell you how far it is from home plate. In three decades watching Cubs baseball I have never seen another ball hit near that spot. Never.

Now that Chicago area is so gross. They hate the American flag in that area now. I live 1 hour west of Chicago and it’s like a whole different world going that way. Rainbow flags everywhere and everything is in Spanish non stop anti trump stuff and crime and robberies. Everyone so rude in that area…..Chicago area is sickening. Most of the towns banned the word Christmas and will only say holiday tree and holiday lights in December.

That first home run would be iconic if they won the series. Reminds me of endy Chavez’s catch in game 7 of the 06 nlcs

The cubs should get over it espically since the pirates invited bonds back after being hated by teammates and the steroid stuff. Never, I loved what he did for the Cubs. But what sticks out is how he left the last game of the year with the Braves in '04. Also, his corked bat incident and the congressional hearing is kind of embarrassing. Fine, if they want to welcome him back and bring him into the organization again. Retired numbers are for players that every fan can look at and have no doubts. Sosa, I have my doubts.

Guys like Sosa, McGwire, and Bonds need to be in the hall of fame. After the 94 strike, baseball was losing viewers and fans. They brought the game back to prosperity.

The scoreboard is 495 ft and it's posted on it. The camera pit is 430-440 ft. at best.

that second HR has to be one of the longest in MLB history. I've been watching Cubs games for 30 years and I have never seen another ball land where that ball landed.

the 2003 and the 2004 post-seasons were the best ever IMO.

This era and the WS era might be some of the most exciting Cubs baseball I’ve ever seen.

That 2nd HR was a shot!

The second one had the arc of a moon shot but the speed of a line drive. That ball was absolutely HAMMERED.

The game 2 homerun is still my favorite homerun and call ever

***** 12-3 but wind plays major role @ Wrigley & Games 1 & 2 Chicago had record heat, south wind-out to left & 14 HRs by right-handers So yes, Game 2 was a blowout, but no, I didn't relax until 27 outs.

The guys announcing the games used to be fans of the respective teams (or at least they pretended to be), so they'd get excited about stuff. Now they're all just network employees and announcing the game is just another gig.

I just want to put in to perspective how much of a damn shame Sammy isn't honored by the Cubs. Bryant's MVP season last year: .292 BA, 39 Home Runs, and 102 RBIs. Rizzo's season this year: ..273 BA, 32 Home Runs, and 109 RBIs (Writers saying Rizzo should be considered for MVP). Sammy's "down year" in 2003: .279 BA, 40 Home Runs, and 103 RBIs. Sammy's numbers in 2001: .328 BA, 64 Home Runs, and an astronomical 160 RBI. Yes, I get it, steroids and all, but many, many players were juicing back then, it was part of baseball, probably more so than we know. I could give Jason Heyward a truckload of steroids and he's still going to suck. Sammy did so much for the Cubs organization and the fans for many years.

Cardinals fan in STL here. Man, I was terrified of Sammy Sosa for about 4 or 5 years. He was one of the best hitters of the steroid era, and it really is bullshit how baseball has shunned these guys, but then let the Astros get away with legitimately cheating and ruining the integrity of competition. Steroids never told you which pitch was gonna be thrown. It might add 15-20 feet to a fly ball, but they still had to use pitch recognition. I hope someday the juicers get the respect they deserve. They made baseball in the 90’s a lot of fun.

Milo Tucker you’re 100% right. Like I said in my other comment, steroids might put a few feet on a fly ball, but they don’t work right unless you put the work in. These guys still had to train and learn how to hit off speed pitches, and learn how to use pitch recognition, learn the mechanics of the game and so on. What the Astros did is 100x worse as far as I’m concerned, but they weren’t even slightly punished.

You can have an amazing meal but if the last bite tastes like absolute shit, you’re never eating that again. Sammy was such a great part of our 2003 postseason run but when he walked out on the team in 2004, that erased everything he did. I forgave him for the corked bat incident but walking out on your team and then lying about taking PED’s is what tarnished his reputation. He deserves to be shunned.

Henry Rivera doesn’t need to be a HOF’er! He did make baseball fun! I seriously don’t know what steroids does in hitting! You have to have the eye coronation for that, steroids don’t help with that! Just helps you last longer in baseball for injuries

Austin Norton well, they checked all his bat and even the ones in DR and didn't find more corked bat. in fact, a corked bat doesn't make the ball fly long, it just makes the bat feel lightweight. sammy just made a stupid mistake that day

that's not how it works dipshit. Read up on your physics to understand that corked bats actually do a disservice to hitting the ball farther contrary to popular belief. It's been proven by science
