"Third Rate Romance" is a song written by Russell Smith, first recorded in Montreal in 1974 by Jesse Winchester and his band the Rhythm Aces, assisted by Smith. It became a hit the following year by the newly re-formed Amazing Rhythm Aces on its 1975 album Stacked Deck.

@@Justin-fq7vj I have known this song for years. Sammy ... Amazing Rhythm Aces ... on and on. Never saw the video until tonight. Always pictured it as a couple of lonely mediocre people getting together for one night. Like you said ... "didn't see that coming". But the CAR. Holy cow. That car made me sit straight up. I'm 58. Been married to the best woman ever born for over 30 years. The blonde didn't make me blink. That Chevelle got my juices flowing!! 😂

today's "country" is NOT country. THIS is country!!! what they're calling country today is more like pop. Rascal Flatts is one of the few artists of today who actually stick to country like it was meant to be heard. Sammy is one of my all-time favorites. and i love that the girl stole the rich guy's money and stuff! serves him right for taking her to some cheap motel

Every generation seems to interpret "country music" differently. If youtube or the internet had been available in the 1960 I feel sure that the 1940's generation would have said the same thing about Waylon and Buck Owens version of country. I like a variety of music genres. I am not a fan of rap or hip-hop or ballet music. These forms of expression just does not fit my taste. But they are legitimate forms of expression. I grew up listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jim Reeves and Hank Williams Sr. I like some of their stuff but not all of it. Just like today's "country music".
