Hey Ken, thank you for making these videos for anglers that haven’t fished Rayburn. You have been a huge help so far and hopefully all goes well for our tournament in March! Sincerely, the University of Wisconsin - Platteville bass team.

That's great information this is very valuable especially to those people that have not been there. I wish others would do at least the roads and camping in their area. That last area at the top is where Greg Hackney won years ago. I still fish those areas. You still need to show the fur baby at the ending. lol

the KOA deluxe cabins are the ones you want to stay in. the others don't really have much room for a single bass boat, much less multiple.

There is a dock at the mill creek ramp. Or there was, as of March. As for grass, last September the was a ton of grass back there as you got towards the road bed and on the other side of the road bed it was every where. From the little islands back in to that creek due east of there, it was matted in spots. I wish I'd spent more time running further back, but it was my second time on the lake solo and I was looking for some tournament fish, so I concentrated on the creeks that ran through the old rail road tracks.

Thanks Jay, so you are talking about behind the Easley road bed?

Ken Smith yes. If you're at the creek bed furthest north on that road bed, about a quarter mile north east you can see the little island. That's was all really thick grass around there.

Good info here. Can really tell this is a "home" lake for you. I am fresh to Texas and have never fished here. in this video you mentioned creating trails for navigation. Do you have these on a chip that you sell, or know of someone reliable that these can be acquired from?

Thanks for sharing these videos, I used to fish the Sealy events back in the early 90's, I haven't back over there since then, but I recently booked a room in Jasper for the 2019 Sealy tournament. My question has to do with time and fuel management, I have an older Ranger with 1998 model fuel injected Mercury 175 hp. It ain't the best on fuel economy and I was thinking about fishing out of Cassels Boykin and trailering to the weigh in at Umphreys. I can only hold about 24-26 gallons of gas. What would be your recommendation as to what section of the lake to focus on?

Bill I’m not sure you aren’t better off putting in down south, maybe Mill Creek and focusing down there. Couple reasons, first in general less crowded. Second if you have to trailer (still no place to get fuel on the water at Rayburn) every hour you want to weigh a fish your going to take 5-20 minutes to load according to crowd and how many miles from the ramp you have to park 😦, then 25-30 minute drive back south, then repeat to go back fishing. Any hour you want to weigh a fish, if you trailer, is as much as 2 hours lost fishing time. Even if you go to Caney you are only gaining maybe 40 minutes of that lost time back. You can catch a giant literally anywhere on Rayburn, so I’d put some thought into my time Mgmt before committing way up the lake in any boat, no matter mpg or capacity

That makes sense, and if I fish Mill Creek/Buck bay and farmers areas I can run to the weigh-in by boat, even Caney I think I could make the run back and forth by boat as far as gas goes. I've never been in Buck Bay area, I'm looking forward to trying to learn a little bit about that area!

It’s right at 9 1/2 miles maybe 10 from Caney ramp to Umphreys by water. Lots of good stuff in Buck, good clay ridges out front or you can go to the back and fish grass. If water gets up more bushes than a man could fish in a lifetime

Thanks for the help! I can only imagine what kinda nightmare it would be trailering to that weigh-in lol, what was I thinking! I definitely need to do it by boat, maybe I'll go to cassels sometime fun fishing, we have a camp on Toledo, been meaning to make trip to Rayburn the past couple years and just haven't done it. We're on the Louisiana side, San Patricio but I fish a lot in San Miguel and on the Texas side. My plan is going to be Buck Bay and go to Caney if the wind is horrible and that side is out of the wind, I've fished in Mill Creek before. Priceless information Ken, thx, if you ever need any help with Ouachita river in the Monroe,LA area or Caney Lake or D'arbonne or Claiborne, just let me know!

In general that’s a tough order, in the spring you see lots of guys wading the shallows and seeing more and more kayakers. Also some good guides you can hire for a day on the water
