David, you so rock in the generosity of your knowledge. Thanks. BTW, the book " an Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists by: W. Ellenberger, H. Dittrich, is where David's Dog reference comes from. Which has horses, lions, cows. etc. and is extensively detailed.

+Mark Tinoco The horse one.. the head measurement will be off a bit because the artist slightly turned the horses head so it's off.. but other than that, It's a great book of ref.

Thank you sir... are you a sculptor...? Are you going to do a Jack Russel? Back in the early 90s Alfred Hitchcock's Patricia Hitchcock O'Connell commissioned me to do her two dogs... a West Highland Terrier and a Lhasa Apso.. First Dogs I'd ever sculpted.. The following year she had me do their new pup.. a Golden Retriever for her husband's birthday... She's 89 years old now... Pat is.. not the dogs

Love this video. :) It came up in a search I did on wire armature. I got the inspiration to make this creature from some old but unused dog toys someone gave me. Their dog didn't like any of these toys. ha ha ha. There is a super long one that I want to turn into a creepy creature using the fabric and some clay. The only wire I have handy though are some wire hangers I will take apart. :P Going to give it a try to see if it can work as wire for an armature also. Once I get a good one made I will cut the bottom of this roughly 15" long squeeky toy to remove the stuffing and also cut off the ends of the arms and legs. I will work my armature into that. I will create and bake the clay pieces and then glue them onto the armature where appropriate. - Heidi

I was fascinated David as I'd like to have a go at making a paper mache Whippet but I then couldn't get as far as finding a skeleton of a whippet 🙄 It did look hard work though, does the wire have to be so thick?

  • @clayguy1

Only as thick and strong as the size of the piece dictates.. As far as finding the anatomy of a Whippet.. visit a vet.. they may have that for you.

Your English is so much better than my German.. of which I don't know.. The clay I use is a plasticine clay called J-Mac, medium hardness. I get it from sculpturedepot.net You can also get Chavant clay.. at chavant.com They have a list of distributors all over the world. I'd get the medium grade clay.. Thank you Tanja.. You put a smile on my face this morning...
