Saludos Amigos(1942)-Animation Pilgrimage

Ойын-сауық

Let's travel to South America for a harmless, good time! It's so harmless I'm having trouble finding the point...

cachaça is alcoholic, but it isn’t spicy; just a spirit distilled from sugarcane. this movie is one of the kind that, while i’m absolutely certain i’ve seen it, i do not remember it at all. now i’ve seen this, it’s probably for the best. also a+ announcer voice shawn

Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros are two of my favorites just because of José Carioca. I wish he were a bigger character in other Disney stuff. He's such a gentleman, so suave and cool, and so much fun to watch. AND I adore how nice he is to Donald. Donald always gets the short end of the stick, but it seems like José's always up to have fun with him. I love that.

Unfortunately it may be that the history behind these films are more interesting than the films themselves... at least to me.

So i found this film fascinating rather than entertaining. Seeing artists going places to draw things and get ideas for cartoons. I always love seeing donald doing whatever he does. Pedro reminds me heavily of another short you will be seeing on this journey called "lil toot" but lil toot was done much better lol. I forgot the plane exists lol. I also forgot the goofy short. shows you how good that was lol. Honestly all I remember was loving watching the people draw stuff. Onto my favorite part, Jose. He is still called Jose and Joe for all of his later appearances. Just depends on who's talking to him. Disney knows what we liked and what worked. When I saw this movie for the first time all I could think about was how they just kinda do Jose's bit a second time but better. I will admit to the film being numb rather than good. For the disney buffs and artists it's interesting to watch but only for a while. The last fourth is the only part i fondly remember myself. I think the animation strike kinda messed up this time period. These films got me interested in south american culture though. I think we need to go back to caring more about brazil given their current situation. I have a friend who is fortunate enough to have figured out the system and become a doctor down there, though he'd rather be an artist. So even as a kid the reverse animation and copied animation bothered me to hell and back. I always found it to be lazy and awkward looking, especially if you knew what you were looking at. Kids aren't stupid I knew Robin Hood was a copy paste film when I was very small. I haaated the reversing parts in this movie more than anything. I honestly feel like they were just playing with the tech and meeting a tight deadline rather than actually trying to be clever. I avoided watching the goofy short for that reason. Not only is Gaucho Goofy not funny it's just not entertaining to watch. Pedro was more entertaining. I liked hard lesson and down on your luck shorts like Suzy the Car and various other shorts you'll see later. It perks me up to know that even when things seem totally hopeless you can make it out of it ok. I know it's a cliche but some people just need these to even look toward the future rather than sit in a rut and sob about their hardships with no end. I did notice the very awkward "The End" sort of thing. I think they just ran out of time and in turn couldn't expand on Jose like they wanted to. Luckily we do get the expansion we need and it's very satisfying. I'd be happy to have another film where Donald and Jose just dick around Brazil for a while. Honestly when my family comes to visit me from another state I feel like Jose just dragging them around to experience colorado. Nothing wrong with that. We just need more Jose in our lives. We can always use more Jose.

Ahh I can't wait for The Three Caballeros Animation Pilgrimage, I pretty much had a crush on Jose as a kid (also I never really knew his name before this XD) I've never watched this movie but I was shown some of these shorts in animation classes, glad Disney kept it classy. The next one is going to be interesting XD

I recall watching El Gaucho Goofy separately when it was broadcasted on TV. I remember liking it quite a lot. I even asked my dad to tape it for me and would watch it over and over again. Well, I guess I was a child and was fascinated with the fact that I was learning about culture I didn't even know existed... or Polish dubbing somehow made it better.

Funny that I also do not remember much of the other part of the movie too, just the part in Brazil, I thought it was just because it was my country, but really Jose is a very remarkable character (especially here). Just a few comments :3 José pronounces with a "J" sound. You probably have not heard much about Brazil in Spanish classes because Brazil is the only country in Latin America that speaks Portuguese. Cachaça has alcohol as hell. Great job, keep it up

Interesting! Thanks for letting us know! In our Spanish class we had a teacher who did a lot of South American history (very generalized history), but it's interesting that Portuguese is the main language for Brazil! I can't believe I'd never knew that before.

I’ve cherished this movie very much since I was a kid because I’ve always been a huge Disney nerd and I was thrilled that there was even some slight acknowledgement of my country (Brasil) in a Disney movie. It made me feel seen. Nowadays I know the film was essentially just propaganda, but I still have fond memories of it.

Love the review, but as an aside it's actually pronounced "hose-eh" and not "JOE-say". C; Thanks for drawing attention to this film. It may not have been one of Disney's proudest moments, but I found it really interesting as a part of their history, and I'm glad someone covered it. Really interesting to listen to

At least one other person has commented this, but I must say! Bambi(1942)-Animation Pilgrimage is the only video I have encountered in the playlist that is blocked in my country. I have tried several others to see if I could watch it that way, but to no avail. If you could reupload it with the blurry video, I'd love that, because I've seen Bambi, I just want to know your guys' thoughts on it out of curiosity. I'm sorry if this gets repetitive, but I will be asking that it is solved in newer videos as well, because it is slightly annoying when Disney marches around saying "NO BAMBI REVIEWS FOR ANYONE!" because.. It's a Bambi review... Basically harmless, so long as you aren't his mom. Side note: I do enjoy your content, I am obsessed with your Kingdom Hearts playthrough since I can't get a Play Station of any kind, and I am also watching the Shield LP as I play along! I do like your videos on this channel, too, I just tend to more actively leap at the gaming unless I'm in a certain mood. Anyways, wish I could be a patron, Axel's awesome, I'll go now, also I'm subscribed to both of you but always miss the streams and premiers.
