    I totally get the plight of the rich not being a driving part of feeling sorry for the cats. I recently came across a song that was cut that probably should have stayed in, where Duchess was explaining to O'Malley why they had to get home. It transitioned into a song where the two sing about it, and the fact is Madame has no one else. They are her only family and she's never been alone because she had them. She is a retired Opera star who never married and her pets made her life full. Without them, she's all alone. I really do feel that if that had been left in it would have made a stronger narrative at least by an inch and made an impact with pet owners who feel the same way (regardless of their place in society.) It's not their high society life they are trying to get home to, it's Madame. Love your Hot Takes on Edgar XD Probably the dumbest and most forgettable Disney villain.

    Greyscale Rainbow Yes- there was an intended song called “Pourqoui” in the opening scenes that played up the owner & pet devotion angle. The song turns up later in the story as “She Never Felt Alone” which is sung by Robie Lester, who not only did the “harp” verse at Scat Cat’s pad, but also voiced Duchess entirely on the Storyteller record album, sounding very close indeed to Eva Gabor. The opening few lines of “She Never Felt Alone” made it into the final film, although spoken, but I agree that the motivation for the cats to return to Madame would have benefited from the songs being placed in the narrative.

    not gonna lie, I'd love to see Aristocats in Kingdom Hearts, as a replacement for 100 Acre Wood. it's relaxed enough and there's enough things to make silly minigames out of. like, a rhythm game with the alley cats, a hide-and-seek game where you have to find all three kittens within x amount of time, tag with the dogs (...dog tag. yes.), a game of making sure the mess the kittens made is cleaned up before Madame sees it, and racing Edgar with Frou-Frou. ...and I just really want to see Sora as a cat.

    To be fair, it wasn't Lady's real owners who locked her outside, it was the ridiculous aunt (don't remember her name) who'd been biased against Lady from the start when she didn't get along with her pair of cats. Her actual owners chastised the aunt when she tried to tell them that Lady was dangerous, and welcomed Tramp into their home when they saw how much she loved him.

    Many compare this with the plots of “Lady and the Tramp” and “101 Dalmatians” but there’s also a Paramount novel toon called “Kitty Cornered” (1955) featuring a young ribboned Marie-like kitten named “Kitty Cuddles” with a similar premise. The UPA film “Gay Purr-ee”, while we’re at it, also gets referenced due to the white feline heroine, the carefree hero ( with stripes on his back!) and a kidnap-export type of plot line also in Paris, although in that film Paris features more prominently in a more sophisticated treatment. Interestingly, Ralph Wright I believe was credited on both films.

  • @arnequis

    @arnequis

    Жыл бұрын

    I can't wait for them to add “Gay Purr-ee” (from 1962) to the Animation Pilgrimage! I just checked the 1960-65 playlist, but it's still not there yet. Everything you said in your comment is true. And both films also had a railroad trestle scene..

  • @anthonysimpsonanygoround8749

    @anthonysimpsonanygoround8749

    Жыл бұрын

    @@arnequis Actually I checked into Animation Pilgrimmage regarding “Gay Purr-ee” and they weren’t very kind to it, despite all the big names involved, and they mispronounced some things, but they at least said the backgrounds were impressive. They weren’t too crazy about the character designs or the general storyline. As you may guess, I’m a big fan of the film and have posted comments frequently on it in many clips on You Tube. You’re right about both films also having a railroad trestle scene, which I mentioned also someplace in one of my comparison comments, and although both scenes involve danger on the tracks to some major characters they are quite different. I remember at one of the many screenings I went to of “The Aristocats” there was a young toddler girl in the audience quite upset about Marie’s plight, until her mom calmed her down and pointed especially when Marie stuck her tongue out at her taunting brothers! By contrast, the bit in “Gay Purr-ee” started out with a dangerous feel but edged more to humor when Jaune Tom was so desperately trying to hang onto little Robespierre. Ralph Wright worked on both films so I wonder if he was involved with that scene, but in any case it was effective (tv airings long ago would often cut that part and even the famous inspired but somewhat extraneous “portraits” scene-thank goodness tv nowadays is more respectful to an original classic piece!). While we’re at it I viewed the Paramount short again recently and realized it was from 1955 and featured Kitty Cuddles but was actually titled “Kitty Cornered”. It featured a small white cat with a hair ribbon who definitely anticipated the look of Marie plus the similar premise I spoke of. There is also a publicity still photo from “Gay Purr-ee” showing Robespierre with a young, ribboned feline-she’s even pictured in the dvd menu and on the cd label but not in the actual film. There may be a possible outtake or at least scrapped concept that Robespierre meets her in the finale! The Gold Key comic book retained the idea-he falls off the buggy, meets her and is finally struck by l’amour when she echoes Mewsette’s earlier claim to be a “feline”. I even wanted to ask Chuck Jones about this when I met him once personally but then I realized I’d better not bring up the film because his reaction may have been mixed about it and his fate as a result-as you know he “moonlighted” to UPA making it and Warners wasn’t pleased but ironically they were the film’s distributors-and years later after letting Jones go they urged him to come back! So many stories about folks in the animation biz going to various studios and leaving their mark!

    OOF five minutes in and roasted. This is one of the movies i rewatched over and over as a kid with my siblings and i really liked it. granted, it was probably because it had cats in it. so i remember the plot pretty well LOL. I can agree it's forgettable tho. My dad didn't like it because he was like "it's so stupid that her cats are inheriting her fortune" and im like, yeah, true. Also sorry to inform you, but Abraham De Lacy Guiseppe Casey Thomas O'Malley the alley cat slaps hard. What a gentleman, helping out a lady even after he realizes she has kids. Role model for a decent guy. Edit: I did NOT know all that about the concept art and cuts, heck that would've been so cool. Another reason I loved this movie was the art tho, because of course, it's Disney. And yeah I absolutely LOVE the dog scenes even if it's pointless. Also why would they cut the harp scene and not the racist scene aksjdhgaskg priorities.

    SAME! For a while when I was little, I thought O'Malley was actually their father because he and Toulouse look so similar, but I guess it would have been more clear that they were unrelated if the animators kept his stripes. I imagine their father was probably another aristocrat's expensive purebred that Duchess had a fling with at some rich person party. Either that, or Madame could have owned a tomcat that passed away before the events of the movie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Time: 6:55 TennelleFlowers: ARE YOU THINKING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY WHICH IS Set in???Germany??? Me: SLEEPING BEAUTY IS SET IN ENGLAND!!! AURORA'S PEASANT NAME BRIAR ROSE IS LIKE THE FLOWER OF THE SAME NAME IN WHICH IS COMMON IN ENGLAND THERE FOR SHE'S ENGLISH, NOT GERMAN!!! (Also realistically speaking Cinderella is set in Belgium, not France because Cinderella is most likely ste in the late 19th century either the 1870s or 1890s and France didn't have a monarchy then but Belgium and they do speak french with could be the mix up between the two nations...)
