Su was leaving Sakura Gakuin and this was her last song with them, so people are crying. When you become a BabyMetal fan you get sucked into the world of Sakura Gakuin. You can always hear Su, her voice just projects and you can tell there is an underlying power to it. Which is why BabyMetal formed around her. Poor Moa-Metal was crying the whole time, we love our Moa she never holds back. Yui-Metal lost it at the end.

Just to clarify, this wasn’t before BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL began about two and a half years earlier as a Sakura Gakuin sub-unit. It became an independent group after Su graduated from Sakura Gakuin. This was her March 31st, 2013 graduation concert, which is why there were so many tears. Yu and Moa continued in Sakura Gakuin until their graduation in March 2015, while also being part of the independent BABYMETAL.

Members aged out, or "graduated", when they reached the age compulsory education ends in Japan (15) to fit in with the school theme. Then new member would be brought in to replace them.

Sakura Gakuin was founded in 2010 and had several sub-units, one of which was Babymetal. So they been around since 2010 and split off from SG after Su's graduation. So at this time here, Babymetal was already going for 3 years. Did you recognize Moa (crying at the start) and Yui too? All three were in this one. Now the foxhole will get very deep, cuz with SG you will be a REAL Babymetal fan ...they were so good...at 6:43 you can see all three Babymetals together btw.

As stated below already I'm sure, Sakura Gakuin was set up as a group with a school theme for girls aged 10 to 15 to coach and train them in all aspects of the entertainment industry with a view to them going on to their own careers in whatever aspect they enjoyed most or were best at, so as the girls reached the age of 15 it was time for them to graduate and leave the group (just as they were also graduating from their own every day schools). New younger girls would "transfer in" to take the place of those who had graduated. This was the graduation show for the year of 2012-13 in March 2013. Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) was the only 15 year old that year so she was the only one graduating. She had joined Sakura Gakuin in 2010 as one of the founding members, she was Student Council President for her final year ... and now it was time for her to leave. The emotions were all genuine, all the girls loved Suzuka and they knew this was her very last performance with them. It was Su's graduation that triggered BABYMETAL also separating from Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band. Yui and Moa continued in Sakura Gakuin until they also graduated in 2015 (Moa became the Student Council President that year too), but they were also touring with Su-metal and BABYMETAL as Yuimetal and Moametal for those two years ... all these girls have worked hard to get where they are.

The tears are not an act. Suzuka Nakamoto was graduating from (i.e. leaving) Sakura Gakuin. They were serious about minimum and maximum age. Baby Su? She already was a seasoned professional. Everyone has given you the basic details. I actually started my Babymetal journey in late 2019, so I’m not as knowledgeable as others. However, like you I found myself falling deeper and deeper into the foxhole finding Sakura Gakuin, Karen Girls, Actors School Hiroshima, and early modeling. Of course only SG has direct connections to Babymetal aside from my following Suzuka back to a 5 year old! It’s not music, but this graduation performance (all of them actually) include messages from the members and staff to the graduates. They are really touching and point out how close these girls were/are. You can find them, with this song and one other in the longer videos. You can edit to the length you want. I enjoyed this. Great stuff! Yep, that was all full on gut wrenching emotions! The first time I watched it, I was a blubbering idiot by the end. If you start watching from the beginning, I hope you do, and watch these young ladies grow up, they will become like family. You will be proud of them yet hate to see them leave on their own journey to become a Superlady. They have a lot of great content. Especially the Nendo tests which will crack you up.

Sakura Gakuin (SG) translates as Cherry Blossom Academy but is not an actual school. The girls all also attended regular schools. SG is (was) a school-themed Idol group for girls. Organized similarly to a school with elementary students (grades 5 & 6) and middle school (grades 7, 8 & 9) or roughly ages 10-15. The members had to leave the group at the same time they graduated middle school. Su- was the lead member, called "President of the Student Council" in keeping with the school theme, during her 3rd and last year with the group. This from the Graduation Ceremony and is her last performance with SG. Babymetal started as a sub-unit and had existed for 2½ years at this point. Yui and Moa would continue in SG for another 2 years while also being Yuimetal and Moametal with now independent Babymetal.

it might not have been a real school, but it's definitely a teaching tool, the group is meant as a training group for the girls and to help develop their talents.

I thought SG was also a weekly tv reality show that aired every Monday which lasted 12 yrs. I know Amuse producers literally everything in the entertainment industry. That's why Koba san has a limitless pool of the very best talent. Well and then there's the all knowing fox God.....

@@timrose3960 it wasn't a reality TV show. But they did have some things which are closer to at least 'TV show'. If you look up Sakura Gakuin Sun episodes did get broadcasted ones on local/regional TV station in Tokyo only and for a few months in 2012, those were sold on DVD later with some extras. Some years later, since 2015, SG did live streaming on LoGirl weekly on Monday and was retired in 2017 and later that year FRESH was introduced on an other streaming platform. As I understood it you'd need to have a subscription on the platform to view them live or rewatch later. SG did many other things. SG did many things, including those nedo class test every year, etc. Which were part of DVD content that was sold. However none of these things I would call reality TV.

I'm a westerner who discovered Kpop in 2010 but I still can't tell you the Korean names of all 8+ members of some of my favorite groups and I have a lot. I still get confused when they change their hairstyle and color which is so often. But Babymetal is definitely different tho because I can always easily identify them within a group of girls or when they're performing. Now the Avengers is a different story but I'm trying. LOL

Good reaction, I hope you enjoy Sakura Gakuin's songs if you want to react more, most of the songs have positive messages (reflect the feelings of girls at that age) and are more in the J-Rock and J-pop genre. You can See Moa almost lose it a few times @2:51 and @7:28 as she is one of the most sweet, loving, and emotional girls. Yui seems to keep herself in check until near the end. @8:57 you can see her no longer able to sing and hold the mic properly. Su means very much to Moa and Yui as well as to all the girls in Sakura Gakuin. Everyone else gave or will give more details. I just wanted to point out a few spots where you can really tell the girls were feeling an end was near and the emotions were starting to pour over. 🤘🦊🤘

It is rare for Yui to show emotions - here she does. Moa is a mess all the way through. Suzuka normally does not show emanations when she is on stage, it's just before she can't sing. Everyone is very emotional.

Oh the tears.... Did you see at 2:51 Moa nearly collapsed from sadness? Our Angel of Love was heartbroken when Su-chan graduated.
I also like the music video version if this where Su fronts an "air band" in what looks to be a dorm room. She really get into her "Rock Queen" mode and it's SuMetal at her best!
Sorry to ask, but I'm an older guy from Australia, but what does a 'W' song mean? Not being rude, I just haven't heard that before. However, diving down into Sakura Gakuin, you have opened a different can of worms than just reacting to Babymetal. Both fascinating in their own right, but very different. Thanks for the great content.

The videos covering the "The Nendo Tests" are really funny,they were general knowledge tests given by the headmaster Mori Sensei to the girls,and he would be brutally funny with them. You should check them out you won't regret it
Good reaction, I hope you enjoy Sakura Gakuin's songs if you want to react more, most of the songs have positive messages (reflect the feelings of girls at that age) and are more in the J-Rock and J-pop genre. You can See Moa almost lose it a few times @2:51 and @7:28 as she is one of the most sweet, loving, and emotional girls. Yui seems to keep herself in check until near the end. @8:57 you can see her no longer able to sing and hold the mic properly. Su means very much to Moa and Yui as well as to all the girls in Sakura Gakuin. Everyone else gave or will give more details. I just wanted to point out a few spots where you can really tell the girls were feeling an end was near and the emotions were starting to pour over. 🤘🦊🤘
I like this song Suzuka's solo version. Su has two solo songs on Sakura Gakuin, the first is My Graduation Toss, the second is Sakura-iro no Avenue
It is rare for Yui to show emotions - here she does. Moa is a mess all the way through. Suzuka normally does not show emanations when she is on stage, it's just before she can't sing. Everyone is very emotional.
