Had my Finnlight 308 for 11 years now. Just gotta love that gun. Its plastic and stainless steel, and not fine wood and polished steel. Its a hammer to put nails in the same hole at 100 yards. And you can treat it like a hammer.

Bolt-Action Productions my granpa gave me Sako Finnbear 300 winmag from 72' , looking for suggestions to make it even better if that's possible, any tips?

My go to rifle as well a model 75 Finnlight in .270 Winchester. It swings and fits and is oh so light to carry. The first three shots land on a dime the fourth and fifth as the barrel heats up get a tad ragged, but plenty accurate enough for hunting. It carries a 30mm Swarovski 2.5-10 x 42 Habitch scope in low Optiloks.

Robbo I handload 308 (in a Howa) and you're right - the 150 gn SST performs very well. I also ended up trying some Hornady superformance 150gn SST factory ammo to test its MV and accuracy. It certainly steams out like they advertise. Still working up my load with the SST. I've also found the 125gn SST great to load and it's also surprisingly effective.

The lighter weight pills can be a very good allrounder in the .308 and often very effective on Sambar at close range.

hey mate, good review of a great rifle, although you give Lee a hard time about his barrel wrap I think it looks okay, where did he get it? and does it help stop corrosion?

Don't you start as well.LOL. No need for wrapping a perfectly good bead blasted barrel it just isn't required IMO. If anything there is just more room for moisture to harvest underneath it and the barrel on the Finnlight is dull and doesn't reflect light in any way in my experience. If you really want the stuff I am pretty sure he just got it off eBay and it sort of just sticks to itself and can be easily removed if required. You know if you do this he is going to want pictures. Please don't as I'll never hear the end of it. HaHa

hahaha! I also think it isnt required but I'd do it if it would help keep corrosion off my stainless Vangaurd, I look after my guns pretty damned well but it only takes missing the oil after one hunt and the next time I have it out it will have a little rust on it :( I spose living in the tropics doesnt help.

I think as you mention location is your issue and the humidity is going to be the killer no matter what. I think you just have to be vigilant as you sound like you already are.

Thanks for a great review. I just cancelled my order for tikka t3x lite 308 w as I found a excellent condition Sako 75 synth stainless , hope I made the right call as the tikka is new and the 75 I guess must be at least 10 years old. Would love to know your thoughts on this?

If the Sako 75 is in good condition then you have yourself a very good rifle. Trigger assemblies very similar with the Sako being able to lift the bolt while on safe. Being able to top feed is a big plus for me especially in the smaller calibers where I often fire more shots and need to reload more often. Most Tikka's shoot extremely well but I would be surprised if you can't get the Sako doing very well especially if you are a handloader. What scope are you going to put on it and what is this rifles main purpose?

Thanks very much for your reply. The rifle appears to be in excellent condition with no scratches, all up a very clean looking rifle. Its a 308w and I will be using it for fallow deer, goats and the occasional pig. Also purchased a new Swarovski Z3 4-12 x 50 BT scope. Really exited and just awaiting my permit to acquire before collection. As you can imagine I'm running to that post box every day to check my post :)

I’ve been researching my next sporter weight rifle and came across your channel. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia. I own a 75 varminter, and absolutely love it. In your opinion, is it worth the savings to go with the A7 roughtech over the finnlite? I know you can’t answer for me, just your opinion comparing the two would be nice. I believe the 85’s are about $700 more than the A7’s here in the states. Keep the good content coming.

If you give me a little more information about your intended use, what cartridge/caliber, whether top feeding, weight and accuracy are the most important to you then I will give you a little more accurate answer. Come over and visit Australia, you won't be disappointed. Big country with a lot of variety.

Bolt-Action Productions thank you for the reply. I don’t have a particular weight in mind, other than it will be used for deer and hog hunting. That being said, it does need to be on the lighter side for carrying around and maneuvers lit up in the tree stand. I love 308’s, so I would prefer to stay with that caliber. Dbm or top loading really doesn’t matter to me for a gun that will get limited usage. In the past I’ve done lots of rimfire benchrest shooting and have gotten into long range shooting lately. A match grade trigger is a must. I would say 3 lbs max.

If it’s not capable of easily shooting sub moa it has to find a new owner. I know lighter weight guns heat up quickly, but I’m sure you get the point.

In a .308 the 75 Finnlight would be my choice if money wasn't an issue as it has the shorter action but it also has a shorter barrel which will reduce velocity. The same caliber in a Tikka T3 with plastic stock will be lighter than the Finnlight have a full length barrel giving optimized velocity and cost a lot less. The Tikka's in general tend to be more accurate out of the box than the Sako's in my experience but both shoot well. Plenty of after market accessories for the Tikkas. The Roughtech Pro is also a great choice but heavier. All the triggers are very similar and can easily be adjusted down to under 2lbs if required. This is another option that I have just built and the rifle including new stock will cost you less than a new Sako. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpd-udJul6e7kqw.html

Yes mate but I probably don't run it as much just because my 7mm Rem Mag has that little bit more flexibility than the .308. Thanks for watching.

Nice rifle but you move up a size in the action which makes the rifle slightly bigger/longer/heavier. A Tikka T3 stainless synthetic in 30-06 will probably weigh around the same and possibly lighter than the same caliber in the Finnlight. The T3 also offers a longer barrel giving higher velocities if required. I believe the idea of the Finnlight is to create a more compact rifle but there are trade offs with this. Shorter barrel often leads to reduced velocities when compared to the T3 that has the full length barrel. You need to work out what your priorities are for this rifle.

Just enough to feel the weight of the trigger and breaks like glass. The key to long range success with light rifles IMO. Basically two triggers in one and not necessary in majority of situations but can be handy in some.

Majority of Tikkas I have had experience with outshoot Sakos straight out of the box. A change of trigger spring and you can have a sweet trigger breaking safely around 1.25lbs if required.

Yeah. My Tikka .308 CTR and ..223 Varmint will shoot .25" groups with my hand loads. Fantastic for a factory rifle. I just bought a YoDave spring kit for both. Can't wait to install it.

Bolt-Action Productions I've have a AI in 308 and I couldn't get anywhere near that velocity! Closest I could get comfortability is 2890 fps... what's your getting is 30-06 speeds which seams optimistic at the least

In Australia we have a bad habit of incorrect pronunciation. “Lee a pold” instead of “loopold” for “Leupold” Is another example. Aware of it but bad habits die hard🤣😂
