Concert live donné dans le cadre de la première Master class d’improvisation qui a eu lieu du 17 au 19 juillet 2017 autour de l’orgue renaissance (1557) de Saint-Savin en Lavedan.
Sietze de Vries, organiste de la Martinikerk de Groningen (NL), a improvisé sur divers thèmes :
- Veni Creator : 3 versets dans le style gothique
- Psaume 33 : Partita
- Vierge de la Montagne : Suite de danse
- Une jeune fillette : Partita

This organist is a true master!
Das ist ein genialer Improvisator - diese Kunst gibt es tatsächlich noch. Fantastisch. Er ist ganz souverän auf den Pfaden von Scheidt, Sweelinck und anderen Komponisten aus Holland und Norddeutschland unterwegs mit einem untrüglichen Sinn für harmonische Verläufe. Dazu seine chromatischen Spielereien mit der mitteltönigen Stimmung. Chapeau!!

A very mysterious sound which brings you back many centuries, Sietze stays close to the spirit of renaissance music but adds a light "poppy"touch to it.

C'est la régale qui est en bambou , et je serais curieux de savoir si seul le résonateur est dans ce matériau , ou aussi le reste (anche, gorge, roseau comme un bourdon de cornemuse ?)
L'un des plus grands improvisateurs dans le style baroque actuellement... Quel génie !

Love 'em enough that I built 3 organs. One has bamboo pipes.
The musicianship and playing are, of course, of the very highest, but isn't it also amazing that this organ, with a single, short keyboard and only a handful of stops, manages (in de Vries' hands) to sound like a multi-manual + pedal organ four times its size? There are real lessons to be learned about organ design from this instrument. It's one of the world's mini-miracles.
The pipework astonishes - sounds like the work of a a major masterbuilder. The playing couldnt express this better.
Beautiful organ tone. Nothing beats classic voicing on low-pressure un-nicked pipes. And it's fun to watch the trackers in action. I shudder to think of how much effort was needed to slice them off boards, foot after foot, back before there were power tools.

As a lover, student, and performer of Renaissance music, seeing and hearing this organ is a revelation. And then there's the remarkable performance to which we are treated. I am so grateful for all of this!
Sietze de Vries is a true genius of improvisation. French organists should learn from him how to improvise and not sell their improvisations as "one and only" way of mastering the art of improvisation.

Some very subtle modulations demonstrating the ancient temperament. Fascinating instrument but surely it has undergone modifications throughout the years? Such mastery of such a crude keyboard.

As of late I have become a big fan of the early pipe organs and their unique tone. Grandfather played the 1928 Skinner organ in St. Paul’s in NYC for many years.

Superb playing on a wonderful organ. I only intended to listen to the beginning but it held me enthralled until the end.
This is one of the best video's i've ever seen (and heard) of Sietze de Vries. Beautiful organ, magnificent improvisation (as always) and above all a truly phenomenal recording by Pierre-Francois Dub-Attenti. 1+1+1 = 4!

J'ai visité St Savin il y a 3 semaines, mais l'orgue était resté muet...J'ai publié quelques photos sur "orguesencartes" avec ce texte : "Séjour au pays Toy à Barèges, au pied du Tourmalet fermé ce matin pour cause d'enneigement. À 25 km, l'abbatiale St Savin, ermite du Vème enseveli ici. Edifice roman austère et fortifié. Il recèle un orgue classé M.H. de 1557, restauré par Alain Sals et Charles Henry. Particularités : sa tribune en bois, ses 3 soufflets, tempérament mésotonique, jeux de rossignol et ses trois masques grotesques aux bouches et yeux articulés." heureux de decouvrir cet orgue que je ne connaisais pas .en l ecoutant on remonte dans le temps ! du bois , de l etain et un peut de cuir et le genie de l homme s exprime encore apres plus de 400 ans . que resteras il de nos ordinateur dans 400 ans ? pierre-xavier

Good range of color in this organ. Tight action response, too, considering the trackers go diagonally to the next part of the action.
This is the choral "Von Gott will ich nicht lassen" , a German choral of the 15th/16the century
