Saint-Saëns - Liszt: Danse Macabre Op.40 / S.555 | Michael Kaykov
Музыка
Michael Kaykov, piano.
Saint-Saëns - Liszt “Danse macabre - Poème symphonique de Camille Saint-Saëns, S555”
The unaltered Liszt transcription composed c. 1876 is played and recorded far less often than the 1942 Vladimir Horowitz reworking of it. Liszt expanded the Saint-Saëns tone-poem (originally for orchestra) considerably, adding in transitions between sections and writing an extended coda.

The trills in the beginning are out of this world? The effect is unbelievable.
So many nuances captured. Truly exceptional and every bit as exciting as a full orchestra in your magical hands. Such a wonderful rendition🎉 ... it gave me chills

So happy you liked it!!!!
Saint-Saëns was a fervent disciple of Liszt, and the older man showed his customary generosity to the younger by championing his music-Liszt arranged for Samson et Dalila to be staged at Weimar, for example-and Saint-Saëns introduced much of Liszt’s orchestral music to French audiences for the first time. Liszt dedicated his Second Mephisto Waltz to Saint-Saëns, who wrote his Third Symphony for Liszt, eventually inscribing it to his memory. Saint-Saëns was among the earliest followers of Liszt to compose a symphonic poem, and the Danse macabre is perhaps the best-known of his four works in the genre. Liszt’s transcription extends the original at many points, usually to accentuate the macabre elements and, memorably, to extend the lyrical central section which is rather short in the original. The loss of orchestral colour is more than compensated for by the breadth of variety in the palette of Liszt’s piano writing. from notes by Leslie Howard © 1989 www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dw.asp?dc=W10776_GBAJY9034601
Wonderful performance! This version should be play more oftenly
Absolutely amazing! Such a clean and accurate performance. I've seen some interpretations where the melody gets lost among the complex textures and the intense fast and furious passages. But your sense of dynamics, voicing, and phrasing is just perfect! This is among the best interpretations I've ever listened to. Thank you for sharing it :)

@@MichaelKaykov That is such a massive undertaking Michael, and I wish you all the best! I am a good composer, though only as Rossini once said about himself, "A pianist of the 4th degree"....Ha! I have to "live vicariously" as a pianist, through the virtuosity of great pianists such as you...Peace! 🎼❤️.
