Sage Steele talks ESPN, hating Notre Dame, rude men in media, social media attacks & COVID vaccines

Jay is joined by ESPN mainstay Sage Steele, who dives into her upbringing as a military girl and how she got her start at the worldwide leader. She also jokes with Jay about hating Notre Dame because her first gig was in South Bend, and how nervous she was her first time on the air on television. Plus Sage recalls how difficult some men made it for her to make her way in sports, with rude comments and sexual undertones that would be shouted down in today's culture but instead she let it roll off her. Jay and Sage also align on their struggles with raising kids in a digital world, and how their kids individually torture them to test their limits. And did Sage really PASS on her first gig at ESPN? We also get into her Twitter attacks from a few years back when she tweeted her political stance and how scary that was for her family. Sage also admits that she just got her COVID vaccine because ESPN mandated it or she'd lose her job. Follow Jay on Twitter (@JayHasTweets) and Instagram (@IfJayHadInstagram) for more on the show and Jay's latest takes.

I’m biracial too, the same, black father/white mother. What I got, the bigger picture from her, is that she was surprised that he didn’t identify as biracial, as their white mums were (obviously) present when they were born. Just as a white person is white, so is a biracial person biracial. Of course it’s up to the person to identify as whatever they’d want and that needs to be respected. I personally as well identify as biracial. But to suggest, anyone not being 100% white, to automatically be something else, is within itself leaning towards ignorance, to not use the word racist (cause at its surface it’s ignorance). You’d basically be telling the person to 100% ignore one half of their ethnic background, which hopefully we can all agree , no one should be forced to do so. That’s why it is important to give people the option on forms to choose more than one if they wish to do so. I don’t even think there would have been an option to mark both on forms from back in the days.

The Obama thing: Barbara Walters confronted Sage about "Why do you identify as biracial, why can't you be like Obama and call yourself black?" Then Sage said every person should decide his or her own racial description. About Candace Owens: Jay Cutler called "Sage the Candace Owens of ESPN." Sage just said Candace deserves respect for being strong in her beliefs "whether you agree or disagree with her" and for not caring what critics think. Sage did not adopt Candace's views (not in this interview, anyway). Ironic that at the end Sage accurately predicted she would be "cut off at the knees" (aka canceled) for this interview. Tolerance means tolerating things you do not necessarily like or agree with. Sage should be allowed to have her own opinions. Amazing this is somehow controversial.

I never heard of Sage before this but now I'll have to go look up her work. It's always nice to see people in the media that aren't complete shills for the left. She did bring up a good point tho, there are plenty of us in the middle of both extremes that agree with her and really want diversity of thought but most of us don't have a voice like you two do. It's great to hear that she gets "support" from others who do have a voice but if they don't use that voice to stand up and defend what they know to be right, then they are just fueling the opposition view. Silence is violence right? Well that works both ways. Hopefully more people will have balls like she does to stand up and just voice their opinions.
