Safety clutch on Singer/Juki/Consew industrial sewing machines

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After fussing with the safety clutch on my Singer 111W155 for two days to get it to work properly, I decided to make a video to share some of the things I learned in the process. I have three similar machines, The Singer 111W155, A Consew 255, and Tacsew T1563 (which is a Juki 563 clone) all these have seemingly similar safety clutches, but they are different in important aspects. Both Juki and Consew are adjustable in how much force it takes to trip the clutch. The Singer 111W155 is not adjustable and mine takes a LOT of force to trigger it. I thought it was totally seized up but it really just takes a lot of force to trigger. I had removed the Singer safety clutch to clean it properly (overnight oil bath, three rounds in the ultrasonic cleaning spa.)

I've probably watched this 20 times and just now understood exactly how the clutch works. It only made sense when I put on a new spring and it still didn't work. Apparently I wasn't resetting the clutch right and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't spin. Once I understood how the clutch lever popped into the shaft, it made total sense. Taking the machine apart to change the belt was easy. It was the clutch I wasn't understanding. Thanks for the video

Thank you! Your You-tube videos are excellent. I suddenly have hope of learning how to get my Consew 226 going! (presume it is similar) I hope you will consider adding to the description a menu-list /play list? of your other related videos, because navigating You-tube is such a spaghetti mess, imo.

Hello Uwe! Your videos are all very helpful, but I have an issue on a Juki 563 I recently purchased. When I am trying to adjust the stitch length via the "button/cog" method, it is stuck at 14 on the indicator. I cannot turn the wheel. The only time it will turn is if I engage the safety clutch. Do you think it is seized somewhere? I oiled the bejezzus out of it before I even ran it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the Singer 111wsv77, sorry. In general if the Singer part numbers are identical, then the parts are identical. Compare the parts diagrams/lists for both machines to see which parts are interchangeable. "SV" machines are "special versions". Often there is no documentation available for SV machines. But you can always look at the parts on your machine. Most parts will have a part number stamped on it. Use that part number to search for replacement parts.

I am restoring a black Singer 111W153. The lower timing belt pulley is solid and does not have the safety clutch. Would you recommend changing to a safety clutch to protect the hook?

Great video! I decided to look here before going to Leatherworker ;-) When describing the Consew clutch you say excenter, is it possible you mean eccentric?

excuse me. Singer's is not adjustable but it is 2 level actuation force clutch. If you engage swivel plate to wider notch which has lower angle, it will trigger with less force. but, after that, catch finger will be functionless, you have to do re-engagements manually. I'm running the machine this way.
