In the mid 90’s there was a hair straightening system called “Rio.” This product was allegedly so gentle you could eat it (seriously-this was part of the infomercial pitch). I remember black women went crazy for this stuff until it started snatching us bald headed and the company folded! The moral of the story: if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS!

Really they used those words, you could eat it. WTF sorry for swearing. Wrong on so many levels. These hair products contain dangerous chemicals. They can burn your skin, damage your eyes and if ingested cause internal damage. Now there medical evidence relaxers may contribute to uterine cancer and disproportionately effect black women's health. I am all for women to do what they wish with their hair however manufacturers selling products which are extremely dangerous is Unlawful globally.

Omgoodness, I remember this!. Yes indeed, my sister and I had Rio applied to our hair, fortunately nothing adverse happened to our hair. The beautician convinced us to get it. We weren't interested in relaxers back then. Now that I think about it, I believe she was experimenting on our hair. WOW....

If you’re using high heat, YOUR TEXTURE IS GOING TO CHANGE🗣 And a lot of women aren’t going natural to wear their natural texture. They went natural to try to achieve length. A lot of women with natural hair prefer to wear their hair straight majority of the time.

yeah the high heat and multiple passes and the no washing put me off instantly. I'm not keen on the cuticle dilator either as my cuticles are already naturally wide open.

I grew up a frizzhead. In my late teens and early 20's I used Rusk Anticurl to make it straight. I had to skip my appointments for about a year due to life issues so my natural hair grew back in. My old stylist left the salon, so I was assigned a new one. This wonderful black stylist asked me, "If I taught you how to do your hair would you stop doing this?" Granted, this was the early 90's when there was no curly education at all. I said yes and took the big chop and leap of faith. She taught me how to style my curls, what products to use and where to find them (back then textured hair products were not available everywhere like now,) and how to protect my hair when I sleep. She changed my life, and my impossible hair became possible. These straightening products are expensive and using them is a money trap. She could have kept chemically straightening my hair, just like the previous stylist, but I am glad she shared with me better choices instead.

I had to use "color treated" shampoo (sulfate-free shampoos were considered for color maintenance only then) because there were no texture shampoos. Hair oils and curl creams were found sometimes in a drugstore (there was a small section in the back of the store) and sometimes in health food stores. Gel was around and it was helpful, but it had more alcohol in it than now. modern gels are much better.

Silk press, weaves or wigs maybe the safer and more economical option if one really wants to explore different styles or textures without chemicals

In August 2023 I’ll be two years natural. After decade upon decade of relaxing my hair I won’t use heat of any kind - whatsoever No way would I use chemicals again. I’m with you I love my natural hair God gave it to me for a reason and I’m embracing my 4b 4c hair Glad you’re sticking with your beautiful natural hair

Ahhh, a tale as old as time! I remember the Rio, a hair system that promised smoother hair without "chemicals". Debbie Allen did the commercials. The Rio system did fair too well though, after the class action lawsuit after women and girls experienced severe breakage, hair loss, etc. Hey, do what you want, but a relaxer is a relaxer and there will always be risks!

“Rio” was release on the market in ‘93. Debbie did the ‘reboot’ product called “Copa” in the late ‘90s. It was just as disastrous as its predecessor.

It’s not a relaxer, it’s just a form of keratin treatment without the formaldehyde (like BKT). Amino acid and lemon are the active ingredient in these types of treatments. You’re not supposed to apply it to the scalp per the instructions (1/4-1/8 inch from scalp) and also you’re supposed to do test patch - and see how your hair / scalp hold up to the treatment first. I did 1-2 patch tests first (and several washes) and my hair/scalp were fine. I have been doing texture releases for 5 years, monthly sometimes. Never any problems, hair stays straight in high humidity until I wash again. And my hair always reverts (even though one of my goals is to loosen my pattern - I have 90% shrinkage). So I think the problems are (1) user error (people put too much treatment on or not enough; or use too high heat), (2) unrealistic expectations (heat alone loosens most peoples curl pattern - just one time is enough for a lot of people (not me), so anyone who wants to keep their curl pattern as is should STAY AWAY from this treatment and ANY HEAT PERIOD); and (3) the product just doesn’t agree with some peoples hair - that’s why the PATCH TEST IS SO IMPORTANT.

I have 4 c(lol d, some places 😂) I love 💕 the crown my mom (and my grandmother and great grandmother) blessed me and my 3 sisters with! @@BlessednFavored47 you’re welcome, glad I can help. I have 4c natural hair also; and to be honest I do not love it. It’s not like KZread 4c hair. It’s uncombable, and super highly shrunken - 90% as noted above; and easily breaks. I have waist length hair that looks like a TWA (tiny Afro) when shrunken (but not a big, thick fluffy afro, more of a short jagged brillo pad - again, nothing like KZread hair). Thus, I have to employ something to make it combable and stylable. And I prefer stretched hair anyway. It’s usually very difficult, unmanageable and no curl pattern. This stuff solves all of those problems and is a life saver for the most difficult hair indeed.

A special name for texturizer, it loosens your curl pattern.😂

That's exactly what it sounds like to me. I could be wrong, but I've seen something VERY similar in the past, but I couldn't think of the name. Some fellow OG natural hair KZreadrs had it done and it ruined their texture. They were told it wouldn't affect their natural texture, but it did. I felt so bad for them.

They only wanted to do relaxers so I only had it relaxed every 8 to 10 weeks but had a professional shampoo and blow dry it weekly and that was enough. When I relocated to another state could not find a hairstylist I trusted so I have been natural for 10 years. My hair is great and I never did a big chop I wore braids here and there and had it trimmed every 2 months until the perm was gone, there is a natural relaxer sold by Photo Specific. I have never used it myself but a stylist in Dallas, TX area uses it and her clients hair is healthy looking. She was has been using it at least 10 years. Sharlena of Pure & Healthy Hair.

I stopped relaxing my hair for so many reasons and having natural hair take a lot of work…for me anyway. But I still couldn’t go back to the process of putting chemicals on my hair. Started my hair journey 12 years ago and in that time ended up having to have a partial hysterectomy bc my gyno found sooo many fibroids in my uterus. Only then did I find out that relaxers are contributed to causing fibroids tumors. My mom started relaxing my hair when I was 12 yo and I didn’t stoop until I was 30z I know they say that this system is better but I don’t want to find out in another 12 yrs that something is cause from the chemicals in it. I’ll just stick with my revair for any straight or texture release aspirations. Thank you for being such a great teacher and hair mentor!

I have a RevAir which I've only used 5 times, purchased in 2021. Mine stopped recently, had a light blinking in the green handle. I emailed them, they sent me a test to run on it. I already knew it wasn't that the filter was full, I maintain it. My sons are visiting this weekend, I'll get their opinions. Do you have the older one or the newer version?

Sorry to hear that you had gynecological problems but hopeful that you are now healthy. I've had relaxers on and off since I was about 8 years old. I've never been pregnant so it could be linked to that...but I'm not sure. I just stopped because it was costing too much and damaging my hair too much so I just decided to learn how to make my hair as healthy as possible by myself and my hair has always been healthiest when natural. If I want a different texture I use a hairpiece, ponytail, half weave/half wig or full wig. A lot of times I have my hair wrapped up from the elements, heating and air conditioning.

I saw a relaxer make a lady's head big. Relaxers are the worst. Better a silk blow out or keratin if at all

I had a avlon texture release years ago, it's definitely not a relaxer, it's a keratin treatment and your curls come back looser and they are adamant your curls revert the same (they don't) and that's from the first treatment. Your hair won't be the same, I am still trying to grow out the damage from it. And you have to get a top up every 6-9months which I didn't do because I realised it changed my texture. It also irritated my scalp that week I couldn't wash, the shedding was bad that first week and alot more hair came out than normal. I personally wouldn't recommend it... There is also a youtuber called (NUCCHI) she did a couple videos on it also.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It sounds identical to so many reviews I read. I personally like that this option is available for those that prefer straight hair. I think the company should be transparent about the lasting effects of the treatment so people can make a sound decision. It seems like an alternative to a texturizer or like you said, a keratin treatment.

My curls revert but I don't apply heat in the way Nucchi did. Also, it might be because I've only had it done once on natural hair. It has meant that I wash my hair more often because it's easier for me to manage.

You do not need a "top up" people choose to do that. I also didn't blow dry or use straightening iron after the first time because the hair stays straight even in humidity (I live in a very humid climate)

This is modern day slavery. Enslave blacks by making them feel they need to change their hair. Highly textured hair is very challenging to handle, but accepting and loving it is part of loving yourself as well. There's nothing wrong with it. It's so versatile and can look good in any style be it locs, braids, weaves, corn rows, buns, wash and go's, roller sets, bantu knots, twists, blow outs, silk press, twist outs, braid outs bantu knot outs. Texture releases are very popular in the UK lately for women who want more manageability to their hair and want to keep it straight for longer. They say it’s “semi-permanent” but it actually does alter a lot of people’s curl patterns permanently, especially if the person straightens their hair a lot, and they end up having to transition. Personally I’m good, I love my natural curls. As much as I love a good silk press, if my hair wants to revert, I let her lol

The product itself doesn’t alter the hair pattern. It’s the excess straightening with heat that women do that changes the texture. I’ve have this treatment done in 2018 when it was introduced in the UK. It lasted 6weeks and washed right out. I did not add heat to my hair after the treatment and used it to transition from relaxed to natural. No texture changes no damage. The same rules apply when adding heat to hair texture release or not.

Keratin treatments and Brazillian Blowouts were mainly used by non-black women for years before black women started using them. Nobody said anything. Non-black women stayed getting curly perms in the 80s, and nobody said anything. So non-black women have the freedom to rock textures that aren't theirs in peace, but when black women do it it's an issue? Interesting.

@@zeppelin_7245 Some people want to control everyone else's decisions in order to make them feel better about their own. I don't understand how someone that is "secure" in their own hair styling choices needs the entire world to reflect their image back to them. It's odd.

A few years ago, a stylist recommended that I do a similar treatment to “loosen” my curl and to make my hair more manageable. No such thing happened. My curls lost their form and no longer clumped together. I saw no difference in manageability. It took years to grow out frizzy hair of that treatment and I never got my beautiful curl back that clumped. I would never trust a hairstylist to apply this type of treatment again.

I had a similar experience and I ended up cutting all my hair off in 2018. Glad I have hair that grows fairly quickly. Not to mention my hair would still constantly frizz.

Thanks for sharing. To each his/her own, but I'm good. I relaxed for 32 years and have been natural for 12 years. I don't do chemicals and no one is getting near this old head with a heat styling tool. I love my kinks and curls.

I recently tried Nutree Botox for Afro Hair. Very similar but a much simpler application. I love it. To each his/her own. You clarify your hair, apply the Botox like a deep conditioner, leave in for 40 min, thoroughly rinse and style. My silk press came out flawless and my next wash, coils bounced right back and hair was extremely manageable and frizz free. I would absolutely use it again. Thank you for sharing.❤❤❤

I am a straight haired natural mostly. My hair gets straight with no additional chemicals and no heat damage. My biggest problem is sweating it out in the gym, but that's easily fixed with a blow dryer round brush on low heat when needed.

If anyone remembers the Demi perm system this is basically the same thing with a repackaging. Demi perm Keratin treatment Korean/ Japanese magic perm These are all the same process and product with different names.

No one is going to convince me to make 4 passes of an iron on my ultra fine hair. When we talk about frying, my hair is like egg white not beef! lol! A few seconds and it's cooked! Lol! 10 mins in and your steak is still rare.

Amino Acid smoothing treatments have been around for awhile. Another alternative for people with curly hair to get a silk press ( that last longer ) and also reduce frizz. This is not a relaxer nor doesn’t alter your curl patter. I use to get these all the time back in the day ( different brand) and non of my curls were altered. Also when my my hair was pressed, it resisted humidity as well so it wouldn’t revert back. Each brand is different as far as steps but for the most part doesn’t damage the hair

Texture release is fancy way of saying relaxer. My hair is good. We don’t need that over here. But I can assure you they wouldn’t have created this if there wasn’t a market for it. Sigh I implore us to love ourselves in our entirety.

Think about the twisted psychology proposed to us frequently and key words: softer, more manageable, straighter and the list goes on. Basically, they are selling to us that we will always need something more to make our hair perfect, or for us to really love it. Well, I really, and I mean really love my perfect hair.

When they say this, I reply, my 4c hair is soft, manageable and anything straighter is heat damage for me. Lol! I'm so glad my trichologists and my stylists work with my texture instead of against it! I don't know if it's because I grew up in a black-majority country with all different kinds of natural, loc'd loose, chemically altered black hair types to know when someone is peddling me something that I already have for free. I grew up with a teacher with a buzzcut and as soon as it started making little waves she was like time to shave it off again. And she was beautiful like the Dora Milaje in Black Panther and all the teenage boys had a crush on her.

I have '4ab', fine, coloured, hair and had this done in April. My curl pattern has loosened a bit, from pen spring to pencil. I have lots of new growth with the tiniest demarcation. Texture release to me is a fancy keratin treatment. It has helped me to retain my length and reduce fairy knots by about 80%. It was well worth the money for me so I'll definitely do 1 or 2 per year.

$250 bucks for a relaxer 😮...prices have sure went up during the pandemic!!! When I used to be relaxed, it was $50!!! I hate how these hair straight companies talk about our natural hair; hard to manage, not soft, dry. I wish they could feel my natural hair...it's nothing of the sort. Thanks for the video ❤

It's not a typical relaxer It requires much more effort to apply.

Chemicals, 6-7 passes with the flat iron 🤔. Just seems like a lengthy process to a texturizer that occurs over time.

I agree. I’ve gotten to the point where I genuinely love my hair. I love seeing and hyping up natural hair on other women and I just don’t want any part of this. When we get to the point where relaxing your hair has the same meaning as a white woman dying their hair blonde, I’ll be happy, but we’re not there yet. There is too much internalized racism and systemic discrimination floating around our hair for me to co-sign any of this.

A lot of white women dye their hair from the time they are teenagers and the amount of breast cancer prevalent in them is astounding. However, breast cancer research and care is now one of the top cancer treatments in the world and is no longer a death sentence. We do not have this privilege in the black minority. Look at the cancer rates and fibroids prevalent in the countries with black majorities and see the trends that most of these women use natural enhancements and have less of certain diseases and complications. The women in my family were raised in the Caribbean and had natural hair until their twenties. None of them developed fibroids or any kind of cancer despite having certain genetic predispositions.

Ok NOW I just got my thick full curly locks mid back- ain’t no way I’m going flat, I hate the way straigt hair looks now them lacefronts killed relaxed look for me for EVER!!!!

Thanks for the information. I started my natural hair journey in 1995. I fell off the bandwagon twice. Once in 1999 and then again (for a wedding) in 2004. I big chopped that year and I am proud to say I have been 100% natural since 2004-it will be 20 years next year. I have no intention in adding any type of chemical straightener or texturizer in my hair. But this was interesting information hahahahaha. No way.

That must be the world's best heat protectant 😮. Maybe the flat iron is on low heat? It's a great idea if it's really safer but I've been natural so long, I can't imagine having continuously straight hair anymore.

I will be checking this out, been natural for a little over 10yrs and quite frankly I'm over it!

I'm good over here. I like the versatility of natural hair. I can go bone straight to kinky and all points in between.

I love my hair though trying at times when I stopped relaxing I knew I would never go back. Hoping everyone that tries this is researching this product.

After all these years … smh sounds like the rest of the chemicals.

There's a much simpler and less expensive alternative to this system. It's called Beautiful Textures Naturally Straight. The kit contains 2 bottles and an individual use packet of maintenance shampoo and conditioner. You wash your hair twice with the bottle of shampoo then towel dry. Then you detangle and apply the second bottle of leave in conditioner to your hair. Comb it through so it's evenly distributed. Wait 20 minutes then blow dry. After that you flat iron your hair according to the chart included in the box. I have used it several times. It's simple , quick , non damaging and less than $10 at any beauty supply. Hope this helps❤

@@folukejohn6429 When ever I blow dry and flat iron my hair, i never give myself heat damage, because I only do one pass and I keep the heat medium to low. Stylists tend to see my extra tight coils and use high heat but my strands are ultra-fine and damage/process easily.

This is marketing word play at its finest. It's not "going to permanently straighten the hair". That's true. But.....any chemical that changes hair texture for 10-12, weeks before your "original" texture grows back in, seems pretty close to permanent. This seems like all the other "managability systems (relaxers etc.). The hair has to be grown out, or cut off, if the client wants their texture to revert back to its original state. This system is for anyone who wants to use it, but it's not something I would do.

I’m literally having flashbacks to when my aunt put the RIO perm on my hair and ALL my hair fell out. I was in middle school, and having to go bald in middle school was definitely a character building experience lol. Thank goodness my hair grew back but…. yeah. There’s no such thing as a safe perm in my opinion.

I appreciate this video. I did an at-home keratin a few weeks ago and am really glad I did. I think it will be a thrice yearly routine for me. Was simpler than this Avlon texlax system you reviewed here (skipping a couple of the steps) and way cheaper, but same main ingredient. For me, I didn't 'go natural' as part of any idea other than finding it an easier way of doing my hair myself than all the other ways that required I go to salons. I cut off my relaxed hair, twisted the remainder into tiny dreadlocks, and for 23 years that's how I grew my hair to waist length, though I'd often cut it back to bra strap length to take weight off my neck. While I'm happy to be without the chemicals of a relaxer, I'm not kidding myself that I'm not using chemicals in my bond repair products (olaplex, k18, etc) and the various conditioners and heat protectants I use. I use chemicals on my hair, so why not one that makes it once again easy to maintain my hair without needing a salon, just as when I had dreadlocks, only now able to change my style from day to day? But if someone has a goal related to 'embracing natural texture,' then keratin/texlax is truly counter to that. I'm just a pragmatist with no such goals.

Im relaxed. No way a flat iron will pass over my hair 4 to 6 times at 400° or more. No, this seems costly & unhealthy

Thank you for gathering the info on the Avlon texture release, I saw very little about it a few years ago at the start of the pandemic when I was interested. Anyway, I was natural for 15-20 years, wanted a change, relaxed in Oct 21. It was long, silky, gorgeous and the beginning of being over processed. Fast forward: Changed stylist, she did some damage control, cut but not major, under processed my hair. Sigh I'm going back to phytospecific relaxer Index 1 which is expensive but I can afford it now (the price may have come down had the creator Patrick Alès born Jésus Gonzalès not died in '21, I think. Impala Group acquisition. Who knows, shareholders run these companies and they're greedy pigs.) Anyway, the phyto has been shipped with great samples of jojoba etc. best sellers. Travel: NY to NJ... will reach me by tomorrow or the next day. I love y'all natural hair so much, I love mine relaxed for the rest of my life. Peace and love.

I love the texture release,it made my hair more manageable and soft. I say to do what you want with your hair.

Interesting, it sounds like I product I used during my press and curl days (a long time ago) I had good results at the time. I don't plan to use this "texture release" release system because I like my hair the way it is. At the end of the day this is a chemical just like relaxers.

I'm with you. I went natural for a reason and am embracing my curls. I've only straightened my hair once since I transitioned and that was because I was a bridesmaid. I'd only consider this for a one off reason like that

I went natural in 2009 because I didn't want to have to keep going to the salon and still come out with damaged hair. Lol! So anything that is a Salon treatment, chemical, service and maintenance I'm like nope. My current salon and trichologist are never trying to get me to try anything new because they know me ( simple and lazy), my scalp ( sensitive), and my hair ( ultra-fine and fragile). Lol! I'm not the client to experiment on. Lol!

Very interesting, but it's a chemical. Does anyone remember our product called vigorol? It's probably still out there but that's what this sounds like. I tried that once and literally it seems like it lasted for a couple of years. I could not get my hair to curl back up but it was great for humid weather.

So we've come up with a new "version" of a texturizer which is a relaxer. This is still just a relaxer in multiple steps with high heat which is more likely to damage your hair. A relaxer is a relaxer is a relaxer.

I use this product and I actually love it and what it does to and for my hair..

I been natural for over 8 years, no relaxer for me. I love my natural hair, but if someone chooses to use these products that’s their choice. Love your videos btw.

I've used this for the first time in january...your whole head reverts after consistently washing it with shampoo...people are just being extra. Like I saw my tighter coils literally coming back after each wash. As someone that used to relax in high school...the results are different...if the hair is straightened , after washing it starts to revert just like if you had a silk press. It really isn't this deep Eta: anyone that gets damage from this likely kept putting heat on their hair after the first time (which is not necessary) or did this treatment multiple times in a short period of time(which they shouldn't) ooorrr did it themselves...which they shouldn't do

Agreed. I did it myself, twice , no salon. Barely noticeable difference in curl pattern, no damage since I only straightened with heat once. Plus I take care of my hair. My hair reverted after washing it once. I wear my hair curly not straight and as I said, the initial change in texture was minimal., particularly in the tighter coils. I think the product works best for those who want to wear straight styles.

Thank you for the video it was super interesting to learn about. I’m not doing it but really interesting to see.

I used to use one that will loosen my curl but never straighten. I used it until because they could not find the the chemist because the company closed onanounced. Bummer. Loved that product. If it came back I would buy it in an INSTANT. LOOOOVED IT. It was natural.

I’m not sure yet. I watched a really great video of a lawyer breaking down the lawsuit a few months ago. At the moment I’m deep in an acting project, but perhaps. I’m kind of waiting to see what happens with the lawsuit.

This reminds me of the New Era perm of the late 80's and early 90's. It was used to help convert relaxed hair to a state of virgin new growth.

You’re basically killing yourself if you get a perm and making your hair shorter and if you get it done professionally please protect yourself and make sure to use heat protectors every time you use a blow dryer or flat iron and if you want your texture back just have your stylist braid your hair and then after a couple of weeks take it down and you should get your natural texture.

Honestly, my stylist uses a product called One Step. It is all natural and it just allows hair to be manageable. You can wear it straight or curly. I’ve never tried it curly. It does not straighten like a relaxer - you can see that when it is humid. It gets a little thick - just a little. It has been 3 years - I’ve had no breakage etc. But I have not heard of this. It sounds somewhat similar.

I had this treatment done to my natural hair by a stylist. I was told that my hair would revert to its natural texture, my hair never reverted and I had to big chop to get my curls back.

Your hair can’t revert your natural texture unless you braid it when it gets hot that is the only way or wash it so when it gets hot or if your tired of taking care of your hair make sure your stylist can braid it

I tried to do a wash and go, and I did like seeing the coils in my hair however, it was a lot of work and took so many days for my hair to dry. Even though I could sit under the blow dryer. I’m starting to wonder if a texture release is the equivalent of several wash and goals because they both change your hair texture the wash and goes that I did definitely changed my hair texture from 4 a to 3C. After doing research, I heard that he trained Hair grows the fastest, but I also find that even wash and go hair does grow pretty fast if it’s low porosity, and with the inversion method, and of course, with DHT blockers, etc. I think that I don’t mind wear my hair straight style with texture release now only because the Wash N’ Go is a lot of work even though I will probably still do them when I have some time just for a deep moisturization.

I’ll stick with my Chi Enviro Smoothing Treatment once or twice a year. It actually does wear off over time with NO demarcation line between new growth and smoothed hair. I get it done lightly so that I don’t completely lose my curl and detangling is a breeze the longer my hair gets.

Acid glycolic is what is used to make perms. To break the bonds and form curls with rods on straight hair

I was just speaking to someone about this type of product.. Back in the day.. well my day.. late 70's. There was a product called Vigorol. My mom used it on my hair once a YEAR.. It lathered like a shampoo but it stunk like sulfur 8.. but eventually wore off. it was used in conjunction with pressing the hair... They don't make it any more. It was the best thing I have ever used. I had very long thick healthy hair...

Sounds like Chi Enviro to me. I get that done every 6 months or so. My hair has been pretty healthy with that product. I don't straighten my hair often so I haven't lost my natural curl patterns. It makes my multitextured curls easier to manage. And yes, it's expensive, hence the reason why I do it every 6 months-ish.

Nothing like the Chi Enviro. Chi wears off and your curls aren’t permanently altered nor will there be a line of demarcation between new growth and smoothed hair because it actually does wear off. I’m speaking as a now retired licensed cosmetologist who offered this service and as a client❤

Why does this sound like another texturizer/texture softener to me???? It may not have lye but there are other alkaline chemicals used in place.

The instructions say not to apply it to scalp (apply 1/4-1/8 in from scalp). It also says to do a patch test. People w/extreme itching sounds like an allergic reaction; that’s why patch tests are so important - you catch adverse reactions and damage.

There is so many alternatives to not wanting to deal with your hair so many different styles of braids, wigs low maintenance hairstyles I don’t get why people would want to change their hair texture like wtfff even if you relax your hair you still have to keep up with it 😭

Brazilian have almost the same product for about 10 to 15 years now. I have done it 2 times and always had my natural curls back, but I never tried this! I like to have an easy blow out for a few month and then come back to my natural pattern! Our hair has memory and in my case they always reverted back easily ! If you do it over and over again and if you apply a lot of heat it will change! But I have done it about once every two years. And yes there is a change, but a mask does also change your hair, not permanently as here. It is clear that in a country like the states it makes less sense because you have so many afro hair stylists but in places where there are only a little African diaspora with not a lot of different hair textures, products can be more expensive and prices from stylist will hardly be found under 100.- CHF (About 110.- Dollars). The water also is hard in a lot of places... so I believe it is a cool solution for certain places and moments in life.

I'm curious to know if there is kinky method to get persons with straight curly hair to have kinky coily hair. Why is relaxers targeted for kinky coily individuals hair to get straight hair. So nobody with straight curly hair wants kinky coily hair. Great video Latoya, very educational. Thanks for sharing.

That is when they get a perm. Lots of black people improperly call relaxers perms. It is a permanent relaxer

At one point you mentioned that stylist say they don’t typical re-process previously processed hair as new growth comes in at the roots. So wouldn’t this mean the older parts of the hair wouldn’t revert back to its natural texture? Chemistry is cool and what not, but I find it hard to believe that my natural hair would be able to fully revert after an intense treatment like this 🤔

If you braid it for like 3 months out of year you can do it and your hair will revert back naturally until you flat iron it

I’ve been doing it 5 years & no damage, hair always reverts. I have noticed a lot of people regret it, though. It seems user error and unrealistic expectations are the culprits. You can’t put high heat on your hair - no matter what the product is - and not risk losing your curl pattern. All it takes is 1 time w/heat. People who want to keep their curl pattern should NEVER USE HEAT(with or without this product!).

You can use heat with it but if you don’t spray no heat protector you are virtually killing your natural hair.

Isn't a texture release another version of a keratin treatment?

Would I need to put treatment through out the whole head of hair every 3 month?

It’s all the same chemicals meant to break the protein bonds of your hair to loosen/straighten it. It all leads to damage sooner or later.
